Start the lads who they think will get the win v Clare and if that's the same 6 forwards so be it but if its not i wouldn't be worrying about knocking lads confidence by dropping them. This is big boy football not u12 development league"
100 per cent agree. This is the Meath senior championship team, not St Vincent de Paul. There are at least two forwards who started the last day who I hope not to see playing again this year. Time to give other lads a chance. I'd like to see Campion, Thomas O'Reilly and Dardis come in. Dardis on the frees please. The missed frees (3/3 missed from a perfect position for a left footed kicker) against Dublin were actually close to being a disgrace.

Both O'Reilly and dardis came on the last day and didn't add anything. Also both have been started this year and neither did much with both been subbed early enough in game, now hopefully if they get their chance they will take it with both hands. Wouldn't start biggie as realistically he only has 35 minutes in him so would return to second half sub. Would definitely start Conlon ,Newman ,McMahon Brennan (both of these work their socks off ) the other two spots up for grabs imo.
But sure all we can do is guess. Wouldn't base anything on last day, as I think that would be unfair when you consider what these lads have done upto now. I like campion but is this really the game to throw him into for first championship start.

Yep. We are better. They are battlers but their style of football suits ours. A dry day in portlaoise and I can see nothing other than a win.

I'd replace Brennan with Dardis after thet last day, yes he works hard but in my opinion hasnt been as impressive as he was in the league and his free taking has been terrible which i think Dardis can improve on, play DArdis inside beside NEwman with O Sullivan out to the Wing and let Conlon move between the two lines using his pac to work off two big ball winning men in Newman and Dardis inside.

Great to have something positive to look forward to rather than the negativity of the fall-out from the Leinster final. We should have decent analysis on Clare already done from the league fixture in March so hopefully just a case of topping that up and focussing on selection and game plan. My team for Sunday:

Colgan
Lavin - McGill - Gallagher
Keoghan - Harnan - Ryan/McEntee
Menton & McEntee
O'Sullivan - McMahon - Tobin / Devine
Conlon - Newman - O'Reilly

On reflection, Conlon deserves another shot. He was given an impossible task against Dublin and could be worth 2/3 points with the right type of service. Reilly & Brennan to come in for last 20 minutes.

Jammy bastards :D Seriously though, what a great draw and what a chance to wipe that terrible showing against us from recent memory. This is a great opportunity for Meath to prove themselves in some way.

Late getting my word in but a refreshing draw. Certainly on paper Meath are the better side: have beaten Clare regularly the past few years. They are a good attacking team and will suit Meath, the message now is simple; don't screw this up. Clare will be ready, they won a tight game in Mullingar last week and will not fear Meath or have any intrinsic pressure coming from within or from their county, Meath will have much more emotional weight coming into the game. The prospect of Kerry in Navan and Mayo/Galway in a neutral venue is mouth watering.

I must say, and forgive me whilst I put on my tinfoil hat, that it's a verrrry convenient draw for all counties involved, certainly favors Meath/Cork as traditional counties, and pitting two Ulster teams and two Connacht teams against each other seems very convenient for fans and the prospect of sales. The ultimate format as if it went to plan would be 2 Leinster counties (Dublin, Meath), 2 from Connacht (Roscommon and Mayo/Galway), 2 from Ulster (Tyrone/Cavan and Donegal) and 2 from Munster (Kerry, Cork). Is that an accurate reflection of football at present or just an amazing coincidence?

I think we can beat Clare without a doubt , but hope he doesn't start any of the cilles forwards . Also I don't know if biggie base a role anymore as he has shown nothing for the past few seasons . Time to get real about our forward play , but I have every confidence in our backs . The manager is there to correct the mistakes of the last day masacar ,so to start those 3 forwards again would be a huge mistake . ( bring them on when we are out of sight perhaps ) As the posters are saying ,this is big boys football !

There's no way Ryan isn't starting......he was brilliant in last 2 games , nailed on at 6 or 7

Not sure about Tobin at all to be honest. Particularly as a starter. No disrespect to the man a great workhorse, but just not upto starting.
I'd definitely start j mcentee in halfback line.

Tobin would be needed for the frees though ?

Can't see the backs changing at all or midfield from the Dublin game, all played up to standard and some beyoned for 55mins until the whole team dropped their heads, its the front 6 where the only changes will be.

Colgan
Lavin, McGill, Gallagher,
Keoghan, Ryan, J McEntee
Menton, S McEntee
C O' S, McMahon, Tobin
Conlon, Newman, Dardis

Brennan, O Reilly, Biggy, Campion all attacking subs for final 20 mins or less, Harnan as defensive cover if needed and flanagan or Devine for midfield.

The only possible change i might like to see is Harnan at 6, Ryan at 7 and J McEntee pushed up to 12 in place of Tobin.

But yet you want to start Brennan cause he works his socks off? He has no pace and is very bad form frees. I am not sure what he offers at this stage?

OK it is the draw we wanted. Clare not to be under estimated but let's call a spade a spade. They have not been near us in recent years.

Pound for pound we are better. No question.

Have Meath the bottle? Sickening hammering to Dublin scoring only 4 points. Have the heads dropped? What is the mood like?

I think 1-9 will remain unchanged. With Newman/O'Sullivan/McMahon/Conlon to be retained up front. Brennan's time is up on this one he cannot score from play or frees. He hasn't provided enough to be retained on merit. I felt sorry for Graham Reilly starting against Dublin. Bring him on with 20 to play that's where he is most dangerous.

The team will be delighted to get this match up with a shot to get into Super 8. If the desire and quality is there then it needs to be a Meath win

One of the players of the league and was brilliant against Clare in league. That's why.

Still think Newman is our best option for frees. Yes he has made a haims of more than a few. But surely we leave him on them . ?
