We can't draw Offaly/Laois as we have already played them which means there is a 66% chance of drawing one of Kildare/Tyrone/Mayo/Armagh which will be a tough draw in a neutral venue. Not trying to be negative but to get to the super 8s, chances are that we'll have to do it the hard way.

Does anyone else think that McEntee's persistent comment of 'The result wont define our season' set the tone for the game ? He's admitting before the game that we won't beat Dublin. Madog (Meath) - Posts: 1 - 24/06/2019 13:38:28 2199902 Link 5 |
I don't how many times his name has been mentioned in conversation on these boards. He's a classy player but maybe it's a case of him not wanting to play for the county? He was a Meath minor before Shane O'Rourke' good team (2005?) so he's pushing on as well.

Agree , these 3 lads are better than what is playing for sure. Imagine firing in high ball to o Rourke at 6ft 7 Instead of 5ft 6. But it's either they don't want to play for Meath or they don't want to play for McEntee.

I seen Beano in action over the last number of season working for Lar Wall . If there's a better forward in Meath at present , I'd be surprised . Don't get me wrong , I'm not a bring Colm O Rourke , Bernard Flynn outta retirement type of guy , but Brian Hanlon has pace to Burn , and a physicality that allows him to power past players intent on stopping him .... Sure everyone knew we wouldn't beat Dublin and anyone who thought we would is delusional. Pretty sure andy and the players knew it also but just couldn't say it out loud like we can. And he's 100% right that game wasn't going to and will not define our season. Promotion to Division 1 and Super 8 football if we get there is the best anyone could have hoped for and I'm pretty sure if we were offered that in January every single meath supporter player and management would have snapped the hand off whoever was offering it. Andy saying the game won't define our season didnt make the lads underperform in front of the posts and didn't lose us the game. We lost because Dublin are 3 or 4 levels above us at this moment in time.

just a query royal dunne will you shortly start supporting your adopted county . we have the momentum and if and when we beat clare hopefully we meet yee and put yee away for the summer . to only score 4 points in nearly 80 minutes of a game of f ootball is pathetic and any other conclusion is highly delusional . i await what i expect what will be a considered reply as most of your commets are always well constructed

6ft 7. Paddy must have grown a couple of inches over the last few months. And he was tried before at full forward for Meath Seniors and couldn't hack it. Mckeever i agree could have been a really good forward for the county but walked out on the panel very late in the day leading up to championship last year so he won't be back. Hanlon i don't know what his story is but anytime i see him play he impresses me

Is that true? As Offaly played us in the preliminary round can't they get us again?

Paddy was in Croke Park yesterday - as a spectator! So were David and Stephen Bray and Conor Gillespie from Summerhill! We had a half decent team in the stands!! I don't like being critical of the team or management - they put in such a huge effort and give a huge amount of time to the cause with little reward. I can guarantee you the ones who feel most down about the game yesterday were the management and players! ASaminthehand (Meath) - Posts: 292 - 24/06/2019 15:38:58 2200007 Link 0 |
From wikipedia: "In the fourth round of the qualifiers, the four winning teams from round 3 play the four beaten provincial finalists. Round 4 draw rules do not allow two teams that have played each other in a provincial match to meet again if such a pairing can be avoided. The matches are normally held in neutral venues. The four winners of these matches play the provincial champions in the All-Ireland quarter-finals." Media coverage of round 4 draw last year also mentions certain fixtures that couldn't happen due to having met already in provincials. Unless the rules have changed since, we can't play Laois or Offaly. Similarly, Armagh can't play Cavan. gwanyagudthing (Meath) - Posts: 88 - 24/06/2019 15:44:42 2200010 Link 0 |
Yea i think the faith is there Reco, we get the forwards to an A1 level, we are going to be a very strong team, once we can produce scores on the board that is. We have the making on a superb team when those forwards are sorted....Backs were magnificent, you couldnt fault them yesterday. That replay is going to be watched til its worn out..i hope...

We need the likes of O Rourke, does anyone think there would ever be a chance that Andy would go begging or maybe any chance Paddy would accept and come with tail between the legs?? Please Paddy! All is forgiven!!!!!! Loyalroyal17 (Meath) - Posts: 627 - 24/06/2019 16:03:03 2200017 Link 0 |
We need him for in the goals. Thats it. Got his chance outfield and couldn't cut it at inter county level. Goes into the book of very very very good Club Players who couldn't make the step up!

Paddy doesn't want to commit and I suspect the reason being he doesn't believe they will beat Dublin again in his career. And if you can't beat Dublin you have to provincial honors to play for. You have to respect the man's decision and appreciate he still fully commits to his club. So he hasn't turned his back on the GAA.
