We all know how good Dublin are, the big disappointment yesterday was our performance. The forward play was pathetic, and a high percentage of the cock ups were of our own making....thought our fullback line was excellent throughout tho. southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 709 - 24/06/2019 10:37:10 2199718 Link 11 |
For information.Joey wallace only got a few minutes against them in the 2014 Leinster Final. You are talking about things that never happened

Round 4 open draw. Anyone can play anyone regardless if they have already played each other in championship this year

Ruairi O Caolain better than all our current existing half forwards. Need to get him in asap. Maybe Newman is only forward near required level at the moment and we are very suspect in goals and midfield. Encouragingly our backline is decent and maybe something to build on. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 237 - 24/06/2019 11:01:59 2199738 Link 1 |
Right. That clears that up. Thanks

Ok, I taught he got a hand to it my bad. But I think he did ok over all. He was under a lot of pressure. One kick went over the line and another bad pass lead to a point. But what I think what people forget years goal keepers would lash it up the field and god knows probably more than half of them came back at you. With these short kick outs they are high risk, make a slight mistake and you can get punished. Yes sometimes kick outs go to opposition and go over the side line. But its not just Colgan that makes these errors in any game you will see the same from nearly every team. A keeper on kick outs depends on the players in front of him to create space and options. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 24/06/2019 11:21:43 2199757 Link 0 |
Unless there was a change to the rules since last year, repeat fixtures will be avoided in round 4 meaning we can't draw Laois/Offaly. Not good news from our perspective!

The worst thing and most frustrating was we didn't play a bad game at all 1st half, if we had of registered the scores and missed chances we had we would have been going in 2nd half 1 point ahead and that would have rattled the dubs. We stopped them from scoring and we defended well. The only way the Dubs could stop us was fouling and the ref closed his eyes to an awful lot out there yesterday. Rescue ?? A sad day for Meath football and our sideline can take a lot of the blame . How he thought Conlon could do a job inside mainly on his own is amazing all the ball we had and we never tried to test the Dublin fullback with direct ball !! What was Newman at again we won more ball yesterday around the middle than I expected turned over ball but then went sideways we had no one inside to kick it too ?? As for our kickouts after 3 years in charge we are still all over the place hit and hope the majority of times . We played better than the final score suggests but the same failings continue in every game which is disappointing you'll get away with them against poor div 2 & 3 teams but not div 1 teams . Give Mcentee credit for putting a bit of steel back in the Jersey but a long way from been rescued mmc (Meath) - Posts: 214 - 24/06/2019 11:31:02 2199765 Link 2 |
I mean get him in the team. What can he give if he's no. 31!

#1 concern for me going forward is that we have consistently struggled with the blanket defence / sweeper system. We had been making progress in the last year with more of a running game but for that to succeed against the better teams you need a couple of physically strong forwards who can occupy the backs and create gaps and also a reliable free taker. We currently have neither which means that we will continue to struggle against teams that can defend well. We are conceding a lot less overall this year and credit to the team and management for improving on that. Problem is we don't have the players up front to complete the jigsaw and unless we find them, we will remain a top 8-10 team. I'd say we will see Reilly, Brennan and Conlon drop back to the bench the next day and Tobin, Devine and O'Reilly (who are more suited to the game we are trying to play) come in. That gives us some impact forwards to bring in as opposition legs start to tire. Hopefully Harnan will be back too. gwanyagudthing (Meath) - Posts: 88 - 24/06/2019 11:42:45 2199778 Link 0 |
Do the management have any faith in our panel it doesn't look like it from what I seen. Backs is sorted lets get forwards we need men now not boys. Reco (Meath) - Posts: 419 - 24/06/2019 12:15:13 2199812 Link 0 |

this may not turn out to be a bad thing what happened , as spillane pointed out we have lost against Donegal and Dublin this year, the manor of yesterday's defeat was horrible to watch when in reality we were only outclassed for about 12 minutes, i look forward to the draw and the response from the players meath1987 (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 24/06/2019 12:37:12 2199834 Link 1 |
Positive news today with the qualifier draw. The 4 best teams drawing each other. This is huge. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 24/06/2019 12:47:36 2199845 Link 12 |
I didn't say there was no alternatives. I said there wasn't too many. Not sure what hanlons story is. Has he ever got a run with meath? Is he mobile enough? He shooting the lights out in club football at the moment anyway and is an excellent free taker

There was about 3 or 4 good balls kicked to him about chest height which any player would handle. But the Dublin defender got a hand on him Everytime and he didn't have the strength to hold it. Was very little high ball kicked into him. Nobody is doubting he is a great prospect but he just mightnt have the strength for top inter county teams at the minute. Brian o'Hanlon, P.O'Rourke and P'McKeever are the three best forwards in Meath by a country mile. For various reasons none are on the panel. Ibbecek (Meath) - Posts: 196 - 24/06/2019 13:33:16 2199891 Link 0 |
