Davy Nelson is manager again this year. Haven't heard anything about the panel.

Intermediate championship is fine - Longwood's players are eligible despite now being senior as they played intermediate in 2018. Players can't have played championship football for Meath this year or last year either Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 30/05/2019 14:03:36 2189108 Link 0 |
I have to say it's really surprising that not even one player from the top div 1 teams have made it on to the junior team, surly there is one or two lads who have not made it in the first team of their club for championship because of the strength and depth in a big club that would be good enough for at least a Panal role on the junior team head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 447 - 04/06/2019 18:47:37 2190615 Link 1 |

I'm not sure who but are you seriously telling me that there is not ONE player from O Mahonys, Dunboyne, Summerhill, Simonstown, Ratoath, Ashbourne, Colmcilles, Wolfetones, good enough to even make the bench

Agreed. Theres plenty of lads from our 2nd team which won the junior A championship last year who id imagine would have loved the opportunity and are clearly more than capable of playing for the Meath Juniors going on what they achieved last year.

Of course they are playing for their first teams in the league and on there B teams and Id say not one manager from any of the clubs I mentioned were asked who maybe worth taking a look at Was there anyone from these clubs asked in for a trial? head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 447 - 04/06/2019 21:10:27 2190663 Link 0 |
I agree with your statement but I think players from these clubs would rather try and break into their first team than play for the Meath juniors. Notice how many young lads like Simonstown's Michael Gavin and Sean Conlon, O Mahonys Evan Coffey, Eimhin Power, Summerhills McCabe and Shaw are all senior players at top clubs but aren't involved in any county set-up. Maybe they weren't called in or maybe they're focused on winning a Keegan Cup

No reason why they can't do both! Playing inter County football at any level would be good for their development and better their chances of breaking into their clubs 1st Team

The problem I would see is that the Junior is really not taken seriously by Co Board and it is about getting a team together and see how it goes What about all the guys who are in with the Senior panel making up the numbers and will probably not get a game of any real substance ? The Junior Team should be using some of these players to give them competitive game time Longhaul (Meath) - Posts: 6 - 04/06/2019 22:56:20 2190706 Link 0 |
breaking onto your own clubs first team and trying to wing a keegan cup medal would be more important than playing in a fairly unimportant junior championship, it isnt really top of anybody agenda lets be fair

Sure playing a couple of games for the Meath Juniors in the middle of the summer when your club has no championship and probably 1 A League game left is hardly gonna hinder your chances of breaking into your Clubs Championship team in August
