First off Westmeath won the final of div 3. Secondly will many go?? Sorry jack what sort of question is that?? Any self respecting Meath supporters will be there and if they not , unless for some very good reason they NOT Meath supporters. I will be there should we get there and so will every member of my family from youngest (2yp son) the whole way up. And furthermore I will not be going to see a foregone conclusion, we will be going with flags and anything else we can find green and gold to watch Meath win Leinster, (I have never gone to a Meath game thinking we will get beat, and I never will) I will fully expect Meath to win and Donal and Bryan to lift the Delaney cup. Now of course if I take off the Meath glasses , it will be difficult, but at the match I will expect nothing less than a Meath victory. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 27/05/2019 21:33:47 2188333 Link 3 |
Wouldn't read anything into the Carlow game, with the suspensions, injuries to Broderick and then the sending off and black cards all added up to them being neutralized without much input from ourselves. To make matters worse their style of playing doesn't give them much hope if they go far behind. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 414 - 28/05/2019 13:30:51 2188500 Link 1 |
We need to take one game at time. The Laois game and no other.

Who will mark the Kingstons and E Carroll? R Ryan be brought in for a marking job? Keoghan too effective out the field these days to be given man marking role in my opinion. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 926 - 29/05/2019 09:28:09 2188730 Link 11 |
Agreed. I was specifically referring to the point that jack asked about IF we get there will many go, a silly question imho. I replied IF we get there plenty will go. All focus is on Laois as it should be, it was a hypothetical question answered directly by me assuming hypothetically we get there. But no one is not focused on Laois. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 29/05/2019 13:42:56 2188822 Link 1 |
Think keoghan will remain back in this game in first half. Afterwards though I'd say we will see him roam. I expect to see a complete Meath performance in this game. More so than we have seen in previous ones. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 29/05/2019 13:44:56 2188825 Link 0 |
I expect Laois to pressure our keepers kickouts and if they win the midfield battle we could be looking at a close game.

Ahh we will vary them. Some long some short. Colgan did very well on Saturday.

Sure there was very little pressure on him. Do I not recall him giving possession away by over carrying it. It left us with no options. Yes he did make an excellent save when called upon, but I am still nervous over him.

Back the full back line that is/has been performing well for us so far. I wouldn't change anything defensively. Maybe push Padraic Harnan into partnering Bryan Menton in midfield, if James McEntee available.

Harnan at 6 with McEntee and Keoghan either side would be my plan cabbage (Meath) - Posts: 143 - 31/05/2019 09:45:10 2189312 Link 0 |
Laois will land high ball in to Donie Kingston. How do we deal with this? He is very strong in the air and can kick points as well. A clone of Michael Murphy just hasn't as good a team around him. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 31/05/2019 10:36:23 2189334 Link 2 |
Will ya get up the yard.... Kingston. Good player yes and will have to be marked tightly . But Michael Murphy good. Come off it with will ya.

Yeah, I agree Kingston is not as good as M Murphy. But none the less he is a good player and, caused us massive problems in the league 2016 he was unlucky with hitting the posts and a few other shots, so he will have to be watching. If recall Mc Gill was marking him that day. So the way to deal with him is play a sweeper to curtail quality ball in also any breaking ball in picked up by or defense rather given Kingston time and space to gather it. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 31/05/2019 12:19:37 2189369 Link 1 |
Laois will come into this full of confidence. They'll be targeting the super 8 just like us and if they win they've one foot in the door. Meath laois matches have been good over the years so I'm expecting a good one. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 31/05/2019 13:07:18 2189390 Link 11 |
He is a good player I haven't disputed that. In fact I said he needs to marked tightly but to say he's as good as Murphy is just plain ridiculous

Laois will be a proper test as they will actually look to play football. With respect to Carlow and especially Offaly, their approach was based on pressure, a rugged defense, frustrate the naturally better opposition and then a counter-attack from deep using their best ball carriers and set moves around the D to draw frees, it's modern day football 101, problem is that in Carlow's case as with many other teams the execution was very poor and lacked ferocity, and intensity, and the whole tactic seems to very slowly be on the way out, or so one would hope... In Offaly's case they simply had no luck, they ran out of steam and had no ideas for putting points on the board, they simply hadn't the raw materials. Laois have better players, and will most definitely be better organized than both Offaly and Carlow, Carlow were missing their manager O'Brien, Poacher, and their star player Brendan Murphy, and when Sean Murphy saw red, it was curtains. A classic case of a meltdown in the middle of a game. It flattered us a bit because for a good 15/20 minutes in the first half we were in trouble and constantly turned over ball and conceded 0-4 on the bounce to go from four up to level. In saying that, I had anxiety going into that game as Carlow had taken on this reputation as a bogey team as of late, so a 5/6 point win in any circumstances would have exceeded expectations. To win by 15 points was great. I must say that watching Louth getting blasted into outer space by Dublin did spoil the mood all the same, it's hard to genuinely get excited. On Kingston, he'll definitely pose a similar threat to Murphy but he isn't in Murphy's league imo. He isn't as intelligent on field, not as powerful in possession and in the air, and I believe a good man marker like McGill can deal with him, although he is a threat. I also agree that Laois haven't got a great team around him, but they're finicky, theyre perennials. Always pose a threat, and we haven't a good record against them all things considered. It'll be great to go back to Croke Park and allow this team to play in a big, open field, it'll suit them and this game will be an opportunity for them to showcase their potential against a team who they know will play them as equals. Laois troubled Dublin to an extent with the high ball last year. McGill can be suspect on the high ball. Someone sweeping may be needed. Maybe Flanagan can reprise the old John Mcdermott role of getting back in around the square to help out. Evernal (Meath) - Posts: 43 - 31/05/2019 20:09:57 2189485 Link 0 |
John Mac was one of the best midfielders to play the game over the last 25 years, with all due respect to Adam Flanagan he is nowhere near that level. Our backs should be able to deal with threat of Kingston and Flanagans job, if he plays, is to insure we at least get parity around the middle.

Game was well over before Murphy tried his slaps. Also I don't think we ever were in trouble. This is the problem this Meath team faces. They can't win no matter how they play, win by 2 v Offaly and it's shocking win by 15 v Carlow and it's expected, and we didn't do it well enough. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 31/05/2019 23:21:36 2189532 Link 0 |
