A bit contradictory there?
Your' opinion is that he should keep his opinion to himself.... on a message board... which is based on the fundamental concept of people sharing and exchanging views and opinions...
You may not have the same opinion as him, but it doesn't me he is not entitled to it, or that yours carries and more weight than his.

Most of the county would have had a similar mindset before the game, and even after that close shave, the mindset will still be the same against Carlow.
We should be beating those teams and expect to beat them. Simple as that.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Actually it was Barney who said it first. And if you think Meath need to be at 100% to beat Offaly I are the one talking silly, actually talking utter scutter, 20-% would beat Offaly. That's a fact. They aren't and won't need to be in til top shape tomorrow."
Who was talking utter scutter now. Time you think before you write stuff in future

Go and read what mr Dunne wrote last night and then get back to me. Talking about we would be able to go out drinking and get with women and still beat offaly

Everyone looking to hit back at Royaldunne but was he not right? Does everyone believe Meath were at 100% today?

If you seen all our league games I don't think many could honestly say we were at 100% today.

You and Mr Dunne were on about we didn't need to be at 100% . That talk is the reason we nearly lost today

100%? No way. If I was being honest Id say many of the players looked very pedestrian. Offaly seemed to win most of the 50-50s. Meath barely performed. Comparing them with the team that beat Fermanagh or Kildare or Armagh is like two different stories. This game was an anomaly, brought about by Meath's ever present mental fragility, lack of midfield, lack of depth but also largely by Offaly playing above themselves under Maughan, a very experienced and sensible manager. Offaly also won midfield and played a high pressure game. Their ability to run down the wing time again was also very worrying. They were never going to be a pushover realistically. Meath at 100% would've won easy but alas, we got what we got. Onward to Carlow.

We got out of jail there. But I really can't see us playing that badly on a regular basis. Hopefully a once off, first game championship nerves or something. Could've been worse only for mc mahons goal I think we would have been turned over.

Good job Colgan saved McNamee's goal attempt late on or they would have had a real fight on their hands to get back on level terms.

Replying To Htaem:  "By jaysus we got away with one there, Offaly were far more up for this game than we were, it seemed like we were second to every ball for large parts of the game. The start of the second half in particular was a disaster, we couldn't get going, I'd hate to see the kickout stats, Offaly dominated us in that department.

Also our ball in to the forwards was getting mopped up all day, surely we can do better than that!

Having said all that, look we're through to the next round, we got the job done when we needed to but let this be a warning. If we play like that again our summer is going to be over very soon."
Think it was as said all the hard training etc. wouldn't be too worried going forward , we better than that and , and while a very nervy game we got the win.
That been said a few players had a terrible game today.

Yes, I taught the same Offaly seems pretty spent in the last 10. We really missed Ronan Ryans game reading and sweeping role. When Eoin Lynch came on he played a similar role and steadied the ship. I would start Lynch the next day. All our backs where not at the races standing way of there men, numerous times. And not covering space and allowing the inside ball. Lucky offaly not more accurate in front of goal. Namee missing that goal chance was a massive let off for us. I cant believe now far off the pace we where. especially the kicking passing it was terrible. I suppose that's Meath all over we never do anything simple. I guess the difference was our subs that came on did well added to the team. And the fact that Offaly ran out of steam. I suppose the positive is we where awful and still won even tough Offaly are poor eough we made the look good. Poor kicks outs from Colgan and we win any Offaly kick outs ? There keeper was deadly accurate we his kick outs he was class, luck was not as good with the frees.

Thank you for calling me Mr Dunne. It shows my superiority and your respect. Today was as expected, tired players who wouldn't be looking at anything other than getting over the line against a shocking team (I'd rate one of the worst in ire) who came for their all ire in tip top shape and we still won. It will be light training this week and next the hard graft is over, and teams who will be hell of lot better than than Offaly.
Job done like I expected played worse football in 2 years. AND STILL WON.

Jasus I'm getting support from everyone lol.
It was closer than I thought. But that was not 100% Meath team or performance. I think I was proven right.

The Meath team must have took your advice and when on the bear. God you should read out the stuff you write first to yourself before you post it. Facts are if we play like that as we did today we will be beating. Only positive is we won

Hope you are right, but can you see our midfield or kickouts improving dramitacilly over next few weeks? These were the areas that caused us problems throughout league and hard to see a big improvement anytime soon.

A lot of the posts here seem to be of a personal nature, but all I will say is a repeat of today's performance will end in defeat. It is obviously not possible but you have to wonder how we can't come up with a young powerful and mobile midfielder, what we had today in both halves is simply not good enough. We can have all the scoring forwards and tight backs in the world but without proper midfielders combined with a proper kick out strategy ( actually any kind of one would be an improvement) we will go nowhere. I was at most of the league games and it was sticking out a mile so obviously they can't fix it or dont have the raw material to do so. A win is a win and we hopefully will progress but midfield will kill us in the end

Facts are I was right. There was never a need to be in peak condition or performance for that game. And maybe they did have a few scoops. They won like I said they would. Playing at about 20% potential. You really need to learn about championship football, you build game by game.

Some of the posts on here reaffirm my belief that parents really have to keep a closer eye on their children's use of smartphones.

As regards the match today, firstly I would say well done to Offaly, they gave it their all and came very close to causing a shock and whilst they will be disappointed, they really left everything on the pitch.

As regards Meath, it was a poor performance and while I wouldn't want to gloss over that, they still managed to win. A lot of the more fancied teams struggled a bit this weekend and the reality is that the first game can be a struggle.

I think Meath can improve and they will have to if we want to build on our league success.

One thing bothered me though and that was our kick outs. We struggled with this in the league final and there was no improvement today. So whilst we may be able to put the overall performance down to say complacency, it is a worry that a major issue evident in the league final, was not rectified today.

Carlow will prove a different type of challenge but I would expect Meath to improve and if we approach the game in the right frame of mind we should be able to win it.

We could easily have lost that game today, so it needs to serve as a reminder that anything other than an improved performance will leave us vulnerable.
