Felt they deserved their own thread. Was in Parnell Park tonight and have mixed feelings. Some great individual forward moments from Finnerty, Bell and Sheridan and if not for Dublin's lucky 3rd goal it could have been a different outcome. There was however a lot of simple handpassing and kickpassing errors which were poor. But the biggest problem was how open we were down the middle. Conceded 4 goals and about 3 more chances. Also the team is pretty small, especially compared to last year. There is the making of a good team there but the pressure is on now big time, must win the next two. If we do and we can get back to the knockouts I would love another crack at the Dubs at a neutral venue but have to beat Offaly and Wexford or we are finished LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 833 - 23/04/2019 22:02:51 2179998 Link 10 |
Didn't make the game but I was told it was even enough apart from goals conceded as you said . It would be very hard to match last years team as there were exceptionally strong in all areas as opposed to this year's team who don't seem to have the same type of personnel on board . But anyway hopefully they will improve as the year goes on . Thought it was a strange one to bring on 2 players again that were already taken off

It's a bad reflection on a coach who brings players back on after taking them off. Shows no faith in squad players and just blocks the player pathway into the team of squad players. Coaches like this lose the greater squad and he ends up undermining his own authority and players lose respect for the coach . It's sure sign of a bad coach and coaching team Talking_Sense (Meath) - Posts: 209 - 26/04/2019 23:03:25 2180498 Link 1 |
I wasn't at the game or don't even know the players involved but for a manager to bring back on TWO players does not look good

Why,and what was the situation for doing this. Squad could b seriously deflated from acts like that. Nothing worst than young player been overlooked for an agenda or other bias towards them.usual stuff is parents involved or something to that reason.if my son was involved b asking questions for the time been put in.

Yeah does not instill confidence in the panel. Let's hope it's a one off. Can't be at that crack, I can understand it in senior matches say where u take off penalty/free taker and match is tied in extra time, and might go to the shoot out. Or you desperately need a point to draw a game and take off a back to bring on a already subbed forward. That I can get. But this wasn't a situation like that

Totally agree this is not how you develop a team I hope the management team are brought in to explain their thought process on this and explain themselves We have seen it over and over again where players are over looked and drift away because of how they are treated head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 447 - 27/04/2019 15:52:17 2180543 Link 0 |
Yes of time would have been put in by all players Coaching staff must have lost the head and got caught up in the situation. But I do think they need to look at why they did that as it would have been very deflating for the other subs on the bench

Been around teams you have to b thinking that all along b about the panel. These days at inter county level anyway not lot between lads.so to take off 2 players and put them back on really is a kick in the teeth to panel.your preaching one thing and doin another could b the unravelling of a team.or maybe a honest discussion from coaches will get them back on track .let's see in next game how it goes.to b honest if I was on that panel I'd b hurting

Seen the match last night on TG4 and if it wasnt for our own mistakes (ball watching for 3rd goal, bad handpass from what I remember for 1st two goals) ) I think we would be well in with a decent shout . . If the lads could cut out those simple mistakes we are in business summerhillof69 (Meath) - Posts: 215 - 30/04/2019 13:46:33 2181039 Link 0 |
Yeah I was at the game and Dublin definitely weren't a 6 point better team than us. Dublin playing at home was definitely an advantage as well. If the players and management can work on a few things we could possibly beat them if we play them again. Last years minor team didn't look to impressive in their first game away to westmeath but they improved with games. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 03/05/2019 11:20:30 2181612 Link 12 |
Agree, would love another crack at the Dubs but the pressure is absolutely massive now. We basically have 4 knockout games in a row to get back to the Leinster final and a shot at the Dubs. Atleast Offaly and Wexford are at home

There is simply no competition outside Dublin and Kildare. Meath will finish 2nd in this group in a canter and if they can't beat these other teams then there no good to go any further

Unless you have a good knowledge of this age group then I don't know how you'd say this. Wicklow beat Dublin and drew with Kildare. There's usually one surprise team in Leinster at minor. Also we should beat Offaly and Wexford but these are 16 and 17 years olds and all I'm saying is that there's massive pressure now. Even last year with a very good team Offaly nearly caught us. We should win but it's high pressure is all I'm saying

Good idea to have a round of B leagues on the same time as minors play....... Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1338 - 06/05/2019 16:29:12 2182152 Link 11 |
sure very few minors would be on those teams. if you were at that there would never be a club game played dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 532 - 06/05/2019 17:33:31 2182163 Link 1 |
I think we definitely should be winning our home fixtures if we want to get to leinster final . I understand that there are only young lads and anything can happen but management will surely see this on the day and make the changes. Last year's team were very strong with big physical players as opposed to this year's team who are a lot smaller and seem to play a running game. Good luck to these young lads
