But it's not just this year, it's every year. Whenever Ballivor lose any game at any stage we're told it's not that they weren't good enough, it's because of hurling. It's just a prefabricated lazy excuse for them losing.

I can't remember Ballivor playing last weekend.

This is silly stuff here. Ballivor gave no walk over. Credit where credit is due. Clann na nGael won the game that was there to be won and that is the be all and end all. No doubt Ballivor will be back next year and be there at the business end again. Their dual players actually deserve credit for what they give to both clubs.

Surprised to see the Ballivor bashing on here. They only lost by 1 score, against a very good Clann na Gael side. I don't buy into the dual players choosing sides thing - any man that enters the field, especially in a championship semi final, will give 100%. If Ballivor won, I'm sure people would be lamenting CnG saying it's a disgrace that a town as big as them are still playing junior. As other posters mentioned, Ballivor will be at the business end again next season.

Reference to Kildalkey bottling it I think?

Tom Hanly really has done a great job with CnG. Two big scalps taken recently in St Ultans and now Ballivor. Very open with both Moylagh and Clann fancying themselves. Both teams now confirmed as Intermediate so hopefully they both go for it in the final and make a real game of it.

I saw Ballivor play earlier in the year and they were excellent. Couldn't see anyone stopping them. The hurling thing is nonsense. Not one of the Ballivor team would use it as an excuse. Clan na Gael won the Intermediate hurling final last week. Summerhill won on Saturday several of them play for kiltale.

Not familiar with the Meath Championship set up. How come 2 teams are promoted to intermediate?

Because our County Board could not get proposals to reform the completely imbalanced football championships passed at convention without letting as many intermediate teams as possible remain in the grade. We did have 18 senior and 18 intermediate teams and they wanted both reduced to 16 teams but the proposals were voted down. At last year's convention the reduced the Senior Championship to 16 by relegating 3 clubs and promoting the Intermediate champions. Another problem with the Intermediate championship was that there were 2 'second' teams in it so they decided to remove those teams hence the Junior finalists are being promoted leaving 20 I think intermediate clubs in the championship, far too many in my view.

It's even worse than that, we had voted to reduce all grades to 16 teams, but then a few clubs started rallying around and had the decision reversed!

I remember threats of a mass exodus of players (even though only 4 clubs would be affected) because players would be too proud to play junior football. This also despite the fact that until 2010 we had 16 teams in senior and intermediate without any issues!

Think there should be 2 up, 2 down every year Senior, Intermediate and Junior. With 16 teams in Senior. 2 from each group making quarter finals and the bottom team in each group in a relegation play off! Not quite knockout football but not far off. 1 up, 1 down is very restrictive and possibly accomodates clubs sitting in a safe non-mans land.

Ah I was giving the sanitised version to a neighbour, I am a one finger keyboard man so it would have taken me all night to recount the whole sorry saga but you are right clubs hanging on to a status to which they do not fit but our county board officers have been weak in all matters related to streamlining our competitions and have done no research at all into what works in similar sized counties. It is a waste of time making any proposal as every delegate, many of whom are not at all mandated by their clubs, will have their 'own take' on what is best for them at that moment only. No thought whatever for what may be in the best interests of Meath football or indeed their own club down the line.
As to the actual thread on the Junior Championship I get it very hard so beyond C N G.

No ur wrong. They did it to improve the standard and make junior A more competitive!!!!!!.... Yeah putting bad junior B teams who are getting smashed at that grade up a grade to get smashed even more will make it more competitive. The like of ST Marys cant compete at Junior B level what hope have they got at Junior A.
