A great game played at a serious pace and the cutes team won .
We will learn a lot from today but overall a great league and well done to all the players and management.
I said it last week our kick outs are a problem and today proved that . Kick outs were a disaster today we continue to give up to many .
Ref was hard on us today Murphy was lucky to stay on the pitch but a class player.

.

When sullivan was man marked second half Newman was tied up we seemed little lost in second half. Midfield is a problem area.james McEntee didn't get his usual running in to place.kickouts are wayward best of times. But in first half we played some great football. Need prob bit of experienceaybe off bench not sure who that b Tobin probably.looked very tired at end when donegal had possession they more smart used ball and time well. What goal disallowed for??

Most important thing was to get promoted and bring Meath football back on the map this has been done so far this season. We should have been up by a lot more at half time when we were totally on top. We lost mcmahon and ben who were playing well also. Very annoying that they kept the ball for so long late on but thats a sign that they couldnt unlock our defence. Very proud of this bunch of lads who some have never played in croker at senior level before today. We cant knock this team or management they need the full support from us fans like in the 90s did ,they deserve it. Although it would have been nice to bring home the cup nobody remembers who wins a div 2 cup. All that matters is we are on the right track again and a big game in 6 weeks time. We will be back in croker again come june if we play like that.

Replying To ROYALOPTIMIST:  "Some of the key points for me were as follows.

We needed a second goal and whilst people will talk about Newmans disallowed goal, the miss by Dardis after Newman knocked the ball down was more costly as it would have given us that little bit more of a cushion.

Our Kick out strategy was awful and easily the worst of the 4 teams playing today. We were put under immense pressure from them and only the tenacity shown when we won dirty ball prevented this part of our game from disintegrating completely. The last kick out in particular was very poor. This has to be improved and whilst the movement of the outfield players was lacking, i was not impressed by our goalkeepers efforts to find his players.

Murphy was the winning of the game for Donegal, he destroyed McGill completely(No shame in that given the quality of ball in and the quality of Murphy), and in the end our full back was not getting even close to him. Given this was a tactic we knew would be employed, we didnt seem to have any other plan to try and stop it.

Finally the Donegal subs improved their team and ours did not. It would not have been planned for Graham to come in so early but i thought McMahon was causing problems and we were weakened by him coming off.

So there is plenty to work on but at least we have a much better base to start from than in previous years.

PS I was surprised to see some people before the game express doubts about Michael Newman being able to handle Croke Park. To me he has played his best football on a pitch like Croke Park and is a great target man to fire in good quality ball to."
Our kick out in second half handed possession back to Donegal time and time again, 50/50 balls left to hang in the air for opposition to knock down to free man. Also our subs brought nothing to the game. As you said McMahon played very well in first half and always on option for player on the ball.

Burke and s tobin if he is in the mix would be good lads to steady the ship a little but losing mc mahon and ben were serious for us. Square ball for our disallowed goal

Promotion and a two point loss to Donegal and the seasons over? Thats some attitude, dont take up a coaching role anytime soon.

2 questions:
1. Were you even at the game?

2. Do you always like your glass half empty?

Unbelievable play in first 20 mins. Newman was on fire. A few calls went against us, the point that wasn't when Hawkeye as used, the goal disallowed for I think a square ball? Hard to tell from where we were sitting.

Overall a decent showing, and let's not forget it was bonus territory. Well done to team and management ! Better days ahead!!

Also was a little bit disappointed in Murphy-I thought he dived a good bit and made a couple of cynical fouls. Lucky not to get a second yellow for the challenge on Cillian o Sullivan. But maybe that's naive on my part and I should be applauding his use of "the dark arts".

First Half - Excellent Football, a joy to watch

Second Half - not at the races. Bullied off the ball and created very little

Disappointed with Meath I expected a better reaction especially in a national final!! Didnt seem to come up with any solutions

I will take it for where we are in our development cycle. But a win would have meant a lot more

Yes but they kept the ball for along time without using it as the forwards were well marked. Why are you on the Meath forum when you have nothing of use to say ?

This is the problem with games on TV, lads who haven't a clue have some stupid assessment.

All around a very impressive league campaign and we've come a long way in a short time.

Some issues today though:

1. Kickouts in second half. We were under the cosh big time yet we kept hitting long 50-50 kickouts that we lost as we don't have that kind of midfield. So many Donegal points came from this. In the first half Colgan was hitting lovely disguised short kickouts and we had good possession from this.

2. Dardis kicked one of best frees I've ever seen in Croke Park yet a few mins later, Newman takes a free from similar distance but straight in front of posts, it is scuffed (Newman was sensational otherwise) and they score a goal from the breakaway. There were 3/4 more frees awarded to us inside 45 metres and not only did we not give them to Dardis, we didn't even shoot from them, instead we went backwards and kept possession. Can someone explain that to me? That's

Putting my meath bias aside it was an absolute priveledge to watch michael murphy play today, there are levels to gaelic football and he was on a different level to anyone else on that pitch

First off can't help but feel happy we are promoted, that was the goal, yes of course I wanted us to win today, and by Jesus for 30 minutes we were as good as any team in country, but we lost McMahon who was playing a stormer, Ben also going off didn't help, Murphy should have been sidelined , but the ref bottled it. All in all a fantastic league, huge thanks to Andy all the back room, Brian donal and the players , you have restored Meaths pride. For that we owe you all so much. Roll on the championship.

Should I not be on it have u a problem with that. Donegal were 2 points up what would Meath have done in the same situation

Well lad I've a season ticket and if you've been following I went to Clare turned back and went again. I've been to all games with my daughter. Its fair weather fans such as yourself i have a problem with. Only turn out for big games in Croker. Were you in Owenbeg few years ago? Ennis Ballybofey? I could go on.

I thought this is in an open forum and if you don't agree with it fair enough move on but don't you dare question my loyalty to the cause. For me the league is the be all. Championship is skewed in my opinion hence why I wanted to win some silverware.
