Replying To David: "I was not having a pop at you or anyone, I was merely expressing an opinion.
My view is that Shane Gallagher, as good as he developing at intercounty level, is not currently as equipped as Bryan Menton to pick up Michael Murphy.
To take up your point of, if Menton picks up Murphy when out the field, will it hinder his game attacking. I don't think so and here is why I feel Menton is suited to the role of picking up Murhpy when he plays around the middle.
Firstly, Menton has the experience & ability to track a roaming outfield player, especially as I think he is a natural attacking wing back suited to such a role. Secondly, if Menton plays on Murphy (when he is out the field), why should he not attack as per normal. If Menton does so; does Murphy not have to track him back? Yes he should and I know I would prefer to see Murphy is his own back line, rather than our back line. Thirdly, if Andy McEntee was to assign Menton the role of tracking Murphy, he has skillset to close down space and contest with Murphy.
In my opinion, its like hammering the hammer!
Furthermore, I think I would match up Cillian O'Sullivan on Ryan McHugh and either Ronan Ryan or James McEntee on Ordhan McNialais depending on where McNialais plays. They are key orchestrators for Donegal. COS would give McHugh something to think about both attacking and defending. Likewise with young Ryan and James McEntee. Ryan is a big strong robust marking defender while James McEntee would push McNialais backwards with his attacking drives. I'm not suggesting that they are correct match ups or would 100% work. They are simply my opinions.
I feel this match will be a brilliant barometer of where we exactly are as a developing team. We should have won in Ballybofey 6 weeks ago, but Saturday will be different, for a numbers of reasons, in no particular order. 1) Donegal will have a more settled and experienced team available. 2) It should be better weather & playing conditions. 3) We have accomplished our primary goal of promotion, so pressure maybe off abit. 4) All said, it a National League final and most of the panel haven't contested a National Final so a lack of such experience may hinder us; or may not! 5) Nervousness, as above. 6) Croke Park is a huge wide open pitch, one that we have not won on, for a number of years. An advantage a lot of the Donegal players have. 7) The Ballybofey effect of the loss, could go either against or for us, depending on our mentality.
Anyhow, we must rise to the task, and who knows. I am quitely optimistic." Hey David, sorry wasn't suggesting you were having a go at all. As you said we both have an opinion on things and that's all i was suggesting. I think it'll be a combination of what we both think and i'm not sure if either of us is fully right or wrong ;) Here's hoping we'll be proven right on the day
I also like your suggestion on COS and RR/JMc that could work.
I think we're on a shot to nothing with this. Donegal are a top 8 team regardless of what division they are in. We should be looking to push into that top 8 slot too. At present i'd regard us as better than rossies and cavan but both have new managers in place so we'll see where things go.

Odhran McNiallais isn't on the Donegal panel this year so far.
Also Ciaran Thompson who did a lot of damage in Ballybofey with long range shooting and Michael Langan who also did well that night are both out.
Bryan McMahon has lined out at wing forward a few times for us this year, I'd expect to see him there again on Saturday.

Team announcement tomorrow morning I presume. Colgan, Lavin, McGill, Gallagher, James Mc, Keoghan, Ryan, Menton, Shane Mc, Cillian, Ben, Campion, McMahon, Newman, Thomas. Great to have a fairly settled team where there's about 11 positions pretty set in stone

Replying To jackhackett: "O'Coileain will be back for the Championship.
Forde hasn't pulled on an O'Mahonys jersey yet so hard to see him being back on the Meath panel this year.
Donncha Tobin is moved to or moving to Wexford to live.
Ronan Jones is still in college in America, due Home in May but unlikely to be back on the panel before the autumn.
Alan Nestor is on the hurling panel or at least he was for the league. Haven't heard if he's still on it for the Christy Ring Cup.
Can't see Andy asking Conlon or McKeever back in for the Championship after they walked away last year." OK sound why did the two lads walk away they would be good additions but if don't have the commitment then better off without them.
OK great to have O'Coilean back for Championship. Disappointing about Donnacha Tobin always but in a shift and he wasn't a bad half back. Ok Alan Forde will next before we seem it will another good addition to panel for next year and hopefully along with Ronan Jones aswell makes the competition for places even more competitive which is always we seem to building a good panel which we will need in Division one. I would like Nestor back chap could add something as he is very good player and only health issues he could have alot more intercounty experience. Anyway great to see we on upward curve long may it continue can't wait for Saturday. Up the Royal.

Can't be just looking to bring lads in because they were very good 5 years ago. Glad your not involved in picking the panel . By the way I haven't seen him play in years either so maybe he would add something but my point is we should probably see how good is he is now and not how good he was 5 years ago.

That's the team that will be on program,, not team that will play, allegedly the team for program has to be in on Wednesday for printing, however the team itself is not known until after Thursday/Friday training, so the pro just says same as last week, that's why we are getting changes on match day. That's my reading of it anyway.

Alan nestor would add something to that must definitely.

Just lads throwing names out of players they no from a while back who they've seen on match reports that their back playing without actually seeing them play makes me laugh.

It's the exact way the team lined out last week. Gallagher was at corner back, Ryan at wing back.
McMahon at wing forward and Dardis at corner forward.

Would be great to see Conlon back in if he wants to put the effort in. In 2016 he was a sensation in the club championship.

P O'Rourke, D Tobin, D Smyth, A Douglas, Brian Sheridan H Rooney, Cian O'Brien, D Lenihan, E Wallace D McDonagh A Tormey R Ó Coileain Ronan Jones Alan Forde. James Toher P kennelly Joey Wallace Daniel O'Neill Shane Glynn , Padraig McKeever Brian Conlon Bobby O'Brien
Seen as people are talking about players they would like in the squad etc. Here is a list I did a fews weeks ago. Its staring from appearances in Mick O'Dowd last game in Derry 2016. Right up today, Its not including OBC.
I was just wondering myself roughly how many came in and left etc. I came up with above I am sure I am missing a few. 22 is was a massive turn over of players. All through we still managed to get promoted. Top job.

I know forde is still around the panel, even though highly unlikely he will play anything before obc next year ,
