I think to be fair if you read some of my comments earlier in the campaign I thought that we should beat both Clare and Fermanagh as we have had to do before but then it was to ensure safety in the division.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments I think it can be dangerous to think like that so for me I would just let the cards fall as they will and not worry about who we play in Division 1 if we get there (and we should). I would consider making some changes to the team though but i do not think we will as we are not yet guaranteed promotion. I still remember 2017 when going into the last round of games we needed to beat Clare and hope that Kildare beat Galway in order for us to be promoted. Kildare were assured of promotion and made 12 / 13 changes to their team which more or less guaranteed that they would not win and we finished 3rd. It would have been nice to repay the Lilywhites in kind this year. ROYALOPTIMIST (Meath) - Posts: 178 - 17/03/2019 20:51:54 2173218 Link 4 |

Fair enough RD. Is biggie still injured? Is that why he came off the bench?

Won comfortably enough in the end but it would be great to see the team playing to a good standard for the full 70 minutes. We were outplayed for 20 minutes in the first half despite being easily the better team over the whole match. During that spell ball retention was poor in the forwards and Clare, with two sweepers won loads of turnovers. It will be interesting to see how we deal with a mass defense next Sunday. Our two points just before half time showed we were starting to turn things around and a different team came out in the second half. Gragham Reilly applied the killer blow and we seemed to have discovered the ideal role for him. The goal was very well worked - but we squandered at least three other good goal chances. If we're going up to the next level we need to be much more ruthless. born2broyal (Meath) - Posts: 5 - 17/03/2019 22:53:32 2173267 Link 1 |

It's great to be going back up, and it's great to see really good second half shifts. After been at all Meath's league games this year I would still be of the opinion our best performance was in the one game we lost, (in Donegal) we played really well for 60 minutes and were 4 points up with 10 minutes to go, then the freaky goal. madmeath (Meath) - Posts: 44 - 17/03/2019 23:37:04 2173280 Link 0 |
Poor enough first half.......Midfield still weak, even against mediocre opposition. Second half subs Flanagan improved midfield . Reilly as substitute had major impact, and seems to have claimed the role of impact sub for the moment. Thomas O Reilly shows good potential ,and has clearly claimed a starting place now..C oSullivan great workrate . Forward play not yielding enough scores still...Not wise to be depending on subs to win games . However some great flashes of play from this team. Cant see us with a high score playing against Fermanagh, but i still would be disappointed if we cant beat them in a low scoring game. Thought Colgans distribution promising, and defence ok generally . nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 841 - 17/03/2019 23:59:54 2173284 Link 1 |
Over in New York and by God I had an extra pep in my step walking about the place today, had a feeling this would be a tough game as Clare had some much to play for so to come away with a 5 point win was fantastic, plenty to work on still but the work rate and intensity is improving all the time. Very important to keep momentum going now and beat Fermanagh to seal promotion in style, if we though Navan was loud v Kildare by Christ wait till next Sunday :-) Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3590 - 18/03/2019 00:48:00 2173289 Link 16 |
Appreciate that. Yes the next step is to ensure staying there. But for the moment we will take this

Ahh a brilliant day all around, there is maybe a thought for some changes next weekend, just a thought, let's see how some of the panel react to a pressure game. Can always bring on the big guns in second half James Conlon was stripped ready to come on yesterday when biggie got the goal and injured himself, but never appeared, think players like him need to get a sniff of championship like football in a packed navan. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 18/03/2019 08:43:25 2173311 Link 0 |
Something just popped up on my on this "phone on this day" and it was screen shot on the Meath v Louth when we where looking for a result to stay up. What a difference a year makes. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 18/03/2019 09:36:07 2173323 Link 2 |
Here is one for RD. You quoted Mattie kerriagan. Saying that he said " Graham Reilly is carrying a injury" and " Shane Mc Entee is Hovering up in midfield " Here is what he Mattie said yesterday " Thomas O'reilly is real classy player with massive potential a hard grafter not afraid to get stuck in " Is Mattie wrong now now ? Personally I am really excited about Thomas O'reilly. I first really noticed him last year against Roscommon last year he was taken off day. Fair call on the day maybe. But he is young lad learning the trade. I haven't he this excited about a Meath forward for years now. He has lots to do yet not question. I was delighted to see Andy has stuck with him this year. That's what you do with young lads like Thomas you stick with them . bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 18/03/2019 10:00:03 2173335 Link 1 |
Cheers for the feedback on Adam Flanagan. As a short term solution for me Menton/ Flanagan works better. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 18/03/2019 10:23:59 2173339 Link 0 |
I couldn't agree more with Mattie, don't know where this is coming from, but I'll be very clear Thomas is a very exciting player who has really improved this year. Now he has missed some blatant shots, but as I said those can be ironed out. So tell me again where I am been derogatory of Thomas?? I'm not and to try to paint what I wrote like that is blatant been a wum. Thought you better than than bob. Expect it from a few on here but not you.

The main thing is our fitness. We have finished strong in every game even kildare who are always fit this time of the year. Fermanagh are a tough ulster team who are in defence mode all the time. Most teams still find it hard to beat an ultra defencive team. Tipp and clare were always going to struggle. Cork seem to always have internal probs. While teams were missing players so were we probalbly more then any of them. S tobin , c lenihan 2 wallaces , conlon etc are just 5 that would prob start most games. I have not seen a fitter team in div 2 for quite awhile. The last 3 or 4 mins vs kildare we had a load of very young lads fighting for a ball and defending a good kildare team in a blizzard and not letting in one shot . Thats what we have over a lot of teams. The full commitment determination and fitness which is finally back in meath after a long long time without.
