Some aspects of our performance were disappointing but when you look at how bad the weather was and how good would we be if we improved on our shot taking and other little basic things that can be put right fairly quickly. A more worrying thing would be if the players didn't have any belief and just accepted the loss today or to just to stay in Division 2. There is a real fight and confidence in their own ability within this Meath team and that showed today. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 03/03/2019 21:49:27 2169913 Link 12 |
Yes Clare will be tough but show the determination and work rate of today and it's winnable, Clare need points for a different reason and this will be a tough challenge, we need to finish on more than 10 points as if Donegal were to reach 10 (their maximum) and we finished on 10 they would pip us on the head to head so we need 3 points from our last two games to be sure of promotion, very achievable but given that both Clare and Fermanagh will have something to play for in both games we can expect very tough challenges. Fermanagh have the head to head advantage over Donegal if they finished level on points and if the three of us finished level our score advantage is superior, to simplify it let's just win our lady two games and go up in style.

What is Kane's injury? Is it bad? He's been a great addition to the squad. Hope it's nothing long term. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 414 - 03/03/2019 22:27:11 2169924 Link 0 |
I know where you are coming from but i think you are being a bit harsh on both teams if i am honest. The conditions played a big part in that game and it turned the game into a bit of a dog fight. There were plenty of things you could be critical of in terms of Meath's performance and some of them may well come back to haunt us later on in the year but to be fair to them they battled hard and kept going until the end. It would have been a bad game to lose but the penalty came about because Meath put themselves into that position and therefore made their own luck and thats what the good teams do. Kildare will be disappointed to lose and overall I was not overly impressed with them but on a different day with different conditions they may prove a handful for many teams. We have put ourselves in a very strong position with regard promotion and a win for us against Clare next and Donegal will have to win against Cork otherwise we are promoted with a game to spare. If both of us win, Donegal will have to beat Kildare in their last game and hope we lose to Fermanagh. A loss for both Meath and Fermangh in one of their last two games and two Donegal wins would leave all 3 teams on 10 points and then head to head goes out the window and the points difference we have should also see us through. However if we want to really compete in Division 1 next year then we should be looking to beat both Clare and Fermanagh and i think we should. a win against Fermanagh should be enough for promotion seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 1432 - 03/03/2019 22:42:47 2169930 Link 12 |
Really enjoyed that win, in those conditions it was a real dog fight. Have showed heart in last 2 games in Navan to win. Some of the complaints about missing chances are ott, the conditions, especially in the second half were so bad today. The conditions played into Kildare's hand in the second half regarding the way they tried to sit back on their lead. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 768 - 03/03/2019 22:52:36 2169933 Link 0 |
Hold on. where you in navan when we lost by 8 points to cavan four years ago ? Where you in croke park when we lost to westmeath? Or at the last two times we got slaughtered against kildare? I am guessed yes to most or all above. Of course we have fallen. Sure everyone knows it.... but we ground out a result and we 100% desevered it. I am sure Galway and Tyrone had some poor performances in div 2 battles but they don't dwell it's all about results. That said we are far from promoted yet. Poor enough performance today but we still won. Meath NEVER do anything simple it's always been the case. Sure only last night I watched Meath v Louth 97 on YouTube and I and still not sure how we won that game.

Every team has something to play for in 2 weeks. Teams battling for promotion or to avoid relegation. If Meath lose to Kildare we know then we have to beat Fermanagh to get promoted and if Cork beat Donegal we know beating Clare or Fermanagh will be enough. Personally I'd like a Fermanagh v Meath final. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 04/03/2019 01:20:30 2169959 Link 12 |
Am I the only one who thought Cillian O Sullivan had a very poor game? Lost a crazy amount of ball in the tackle TakeYourPoints6 (Meath) - Posts: 223 - 04/03/2019 06:51:49 2169966 Link 1 |
Fantastic to win like we did yesterday in Terrible conditions . To be honest we should have won by a good bit more we were completely on top in the second half. All our backs were on top and gave 100% the big change again was the subs. Reilly Kane , Harnan and Dardis gave that extra bit of pace. Probably one of the best performances i have seen by COS his energy and drive was immense . Only a few things i was not to happy about was obviously the 2 bad injuries. You cant be anything but delighted after yesterdays win though we have our hunger well and truly back. I could barely walk back to the car after the game with the heavy snow so i was amazed how they played so well in it. This game was like the 97 games never die right til the end games you wouldn't see in the championship since the back door was invented. It was an awful day for a game - and I think this was reflected in the standard of both teams - but looking at the highlights of the other games last night that were held over the weekend I don't think there was a huge difference! I left the forum years ago but on reading some of the reviews of the game i felt it was time to come back and give my view. belladon (Meath) - Posts: 9 - 04/03/2019 08:37:45 2169977 Link 0 |
Well, that was a bitterly cold day in Navan yesterday. Fair play to all the supporters from both sides that made it. I thought that this was a game that Kildare will be kicking themselves that they lost as they were much more efficient in front of goal in the first half. Kildare's defensive tactics were a bit on the edge but I thought that Ben Brennan's 2 points early in the second half were the boost the Meath team needed to keep pushing on. Not sure if Kildare were time wasting a bit with the injuries but they seemed to be trying to contain the game instead of going for it. For me Ben Brennan was probably man of the match with crucial scores with Cillian O'Sullivan getting huge work in also. But the crucial intervention for me was from Graham Reilly who sent in a pin point pass to Conor McGill which resulted in the penalty. Overall, neither team excelled but they were very difficult conditions and it's great to see a Meath team again that is prepared to fight until the end of the game. If we play Kildare again in the summer we can expect a backlash as they have a lot of young players coming through and are probably a bit further on in development even though we snatched this one. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 04/03/2019 08:43:29 2169978 Link 0 |
Ok Ok everyone needs to relax. My point is we should not build this up. I would be happy had this happened in Donegal or against a top 5 team but Kildare are no great shakes. We don't want to be ambushed down in Ennis and really the players need to stay grounded. There are 2 huge matches left. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 04/03/2019 09:54:09 2169995 Link 0 |
Wouldn't say he had a poor game but he continues to loose handy ball way to often this happens in every game with him .

The Clare game seems the vital one. If Meath win and Fermanagh lose next day out then the points difference may prove important. If Meath and Fermanagh both win then I think Fermanagh will be guaranteed promotion before the game in Navan. Either was a win for Meath in Ennis is the important part. Congrats to Meath on a fantastic win. Division One is now in the Royals hands. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 04/03/2019 11:14:03 2170036 Link 0 |
It's important we beat Kildare but equally as important Fermanagh beat Armagh. Armagh switched the venue to Crossmaglen so they are trying everything in their power to win it. If cork or Kildare can beat donegal either that would be huge. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 04/03/2019 11:25:03 2170040 Link 12 |
We won't play Kildare in Leinster. Dublin will beat them handily if they over come Longford. If we play Dublin we'll be lucky to get within 10 points. The gap may be closing but it's still a huge gap.
