I actually think the midfield is best we have been for a long while. Neither are midfielders but both are doing a job, wouldn't be too hard on them, can't be easy to know you been played out of position always and been thrown into a role you not suited to, but neither have thrown a strop like some others in the past. Are they gonna be a formidable partnership come summer time? No. But you know what, that doesn't matter one bit. I said at Christmas and before that, all that matters is promotion, I was ridiculed for saying at beginning of league that the push for promotion is all that matters, I still stand by that, we are not going to win Leinster this year, we are not going to win all ire this year, ALL that matters is we get promoted, our year is defined by the league and how we do in it, regardless of what some in donegal think everyone of the teams there with us are there because we are all there on merit, I'm not been negative in saying this but once the midfield the gk the halfback line the half forwards the full forwards the full backs are good enough to beat ((or should have beat) tipp, donegal, Armagh, cork, Kildare, Clare , Fermanagh I don't care, the dubs Kerry Tyrone mayo Monaghan Galway etc should not bother us one bit. The league is where we need to win , we have for too long worried about championship, league performance and championship goes hand in hand, if we want to be relevant in championship next year or the year after, the only way we do that is by playing in division one, so I'm not worried about how these fellas will play come May or June , all they and Andy have to do is win 3:4 of the next games and that should get us promoted. And that is all that matters. Nothing else royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 18/02/2019 08:05:37 2166040 Link 0 |
Tomas o Reilly and James McEntee sHould b tried at midfield leave s mac wing back. Last game when reilly came out field he looked like a running midfielder. Seen McEntee in omagh few years ago again tyrone done well there. Bring menton out from corner forward position add bit of strength he could do a holding job round the middle. Have biggy and newman as 2 inside target men.sullivan campion could feed off the 2 boys.def b a pacey set up I yhink. Just my 2 pence worth.

I've seen it all on here now. Someone proposing Thomas Reilly as a midfielder. The mid term break effect has taken hold early.

Agree hopefully it is not a serious injury. He has been very good for us the last few years he has great pace and is always looking for the ball which is always go to see.

I will quote a reply to me earlier in the thread. If it's not broken why fix it? And that was about one change for 30 minutes. We are winning and playing well doing it, isn't that all that should matter?? Get bloody promoted, go to Croke Park and give whoever we meet in final a bloody good game and beat the feckers (probably donegal) have Brian walk up the steps collect the cup, we all have a great day out before championship starts, then and only then look at the team for championship, let me state though I don't really care if we win the cup (lovely as that would be) the main thing is that in 2020 we are playing in division one. Everything else is a bonus, when is the last time we were actually in division one ,? As far as I remember it was Sean boylan (or maybe I'm thinking last time we win it when O'Malley was captain) furlong help me out here :) royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 18/02/2019 14:14:29 2166136 Link 0 |
I think the bookies have got this one wrong. Meath shouldn't be favourites playing away from home against a team who beat us in Navan last year. I'd have it as a toss-up and marginally favouring Cork if anyone. I would bite your hand off for a draw if it was on offer right now. Getting out of this division will be all about staying in the mix right up to the final round of fixtures. gwanyagudthing (Meath) - Posts: 88 - 18/02/2019 16:38:13 2166180 Link 0 |
Royal our last league title was in 1994 with Robbie O'Malley collecting the big eared cup. We won it out of Division 2. Beat Dopwn in the quarters, your much loved Westmeath and Larry Giles in the semi finals and Armagh in the final. Bernie flynn got two goals that day and a certain Trevor Giles was making his way in the world of senior football. Think Tom Hanley and Neville Dunne were mainstays of the league that year but didn't play championship football (open to correction on Hanley possibly playing)

Royaldunne the last time Meath were in Division 1 was in 2006 when it had 16 teams with A and B. The last time Meath were in Division 1 when it had 8 teams was in the 1996-1997 season.

I remember flynn saying after the Westmeath game that the goal he scored he closed his eyes, and just hit it. Spike fagan was still on wmeath team if memory serves me right. Larry giles (technically a Meath man as he has never lived in Westmeath even to this day ) did also Play.

06 wow long time ago. And worse still when you look at the 8 team thing. 20+ years. Way too long.

Don't see how getting a draw against the worst team in the division is good for promotion. Definitely a banana skin but Meath are deserved favorites going on this years results/performances.

Meath 2019 is very different to Meath 2018. We have made significant improvement this year. Cork on the other hand seem to be going backwards. Months of hard work starting to pay off.

Yeah I'd agree with that

meath have improved this year, but i dont think Cork are as bad as the Clare result suggests. They drew away to Fermanagh and lost to Kildare by a goal. Way too early to be talking about how we should go down there and win. If we play as well as we did in parts against Donegal and Armagh we have a good chance of coming away with the points but Cork are fighting for survival and will have little fear of Meath. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 1432 - 18/02/2019 23:54:54 2166266 Link 12 |
I see this match as a chance to make up for the mess that was Donegal. 2 points thrown away. Time to make amends. If we beat Cork things are going to get real exciting for the rest of the league. Hopefully as the league is far more important than the non event that is the leinster championship. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 19/02/2019 01:38:50 2166270 Link 11 |

Alot hinges on James mcentee fitness, he's become a very important player and we havnt got even close to a like for like replacement. I'd like to see a stat of the percentage of attacks he actually starts for meath.......he's a game changer southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 709 - 19/02/2019 06:38:49 2166274 Link 11 |
Ha, I've just been burned way too many times in the last 15 years following Meath. It's very hard to win away from home in the league as evidenced by the 4 home wins in the last round, several of which were generally unpredicted! I will be pleasantly surprised and impressed if we come away with the win.
