Now that the obc is over. It's time to get down to the real business. The push for promotion. Game one we have to win, there is no ifs or buts about it, I think we will win , as we seem a more determined, focused and coherent team than last year.
Can't wait. Bring it on.

Although I admire your tireless enthusiasm, I think its misplaced. The "push for promotion" isnt a proactive statement atm and only puts pressure on the team, who are as likely to sink as to swim. There's a few good games to look forward to in this league, and I agree this one is a must win if theyre serious about pushing for 1st or 2nd spot and to hit the ground running. I would back the players to perform to their best, and after that there won't be much in the scoreline at the end either way.

Well everyone of the players have said this year has to be looking at promotion firstly, Andy mcentee has said it in every interview he has given. Don't think by me or anyone else saying it that it will add anymore pressure. They know what they have to do, we all do. To look at it pragmatically I'd say no more than 2 defeats will see us in the shake up, this game is one of the 5 we need to be winning.

a more determined, focused and coherent team than last year? This judgement after a couple of pre season games, two of which we lost.

Why do I get the feeling that if we beat tipp it will be ahh sure they only a hurling co and many of their players are away, if we get beat it will be the same , how could we not beat them?
If we beat Clare? Same as above.
If we beat cork , it's cause they at all time low, if they beat us , it's we are at all time low,
Donegal if we win , it's cause they in transition, if we get beat, we still can't beat a ulster team,
Fermanagh, worst co in ulster we should be beating them, they beat us, worst xo in ulster how did we get beat by them,
If we beat Kildare, the match was at home and they lost to Carlow, if they beat us, just goes to show how far we fallen when Kildare are miles ahead of us. ... I could go on but I'm sure you all can get what I'm saying...
honestly I feel sorry for Andy and the players, there is absolutely no pleasing some Meath "fans" I won't use the term paudi used for Kerry fans, instead I'll say they more like a shower of whinging ungrateful #######s.
Rant over

I think that is fair to say. McEntee definitely has put together the strongest panel he has had so far in his Meath management career going into this campaign (we could do still with a POR in goals though). I'm optimistic that we'll give a good account of ourselves and if that leads to promotion or relegation or whatever - so be it. I just want the players to do themselves justice and enjoy themselves playing for Meath.

Great point that's so often overlooked these days. Its questionable if many county players from any county really enjoy the game they are playing anymore, I will say that the performance and atmosphere v. Tyrone in the Championship last year had a vibe and the players went after it till the last second. I didnt see a Meath team like that in at least 10 years, and their passion was undebiable. That has to be a good thing going forward.

I like the cut of Young_Gaels jib and indeed the 2019 recharged Crinigan.

To my eyes I think our personel is no better than the past couple of years and we are arguably weaker. We're down a lot of forwards and from what I hear it showed against Dublin. Newman back is brilliant but he's going to carry a huge amount of weight on his shoulders.

We don't have anyone in the class of Quinlivan or Sweeney, or the fielding abilities of young Kennedy that they'll have in their forwards, but ability wise we were up against a mismatch in Tyrone which leads me to some optimism. If we continue from where we left off there, and build on what I believe to be a solid defence as a decent backbone, we have every right to be at least as good with another years experience if we can kick on and dig in.

Realistically we'll be better again next year with players back and perhaps some of our youth coming through but for now I'm looking forward to a fresh slate as always and if there is one thing that Tyrone game confirmed, is it that they deserve our support.

Division 2 is going to be a massive challenge but I don't think we should be reading a huge amount into Saturdays game. Some positives and some negatives. Meath (or any county for that matter) that play Dublins third string are in a lose lose situation. Win and you get told its only Dublin's third string you should be beating them, and lose which we did on penalties and your told you cant even beat Dublin's third string. Dublin's third team would beat most teams in Ireland outside of the top 4 this time of the year. They have a pick of players that is unrivaled and is a monster that the GAA have created and is now to late to stop. Positives were the individual performances of Seamus Lavin, Ronan Ryan and Daragh Campion for me. Negatives were some of the decision making in the forwards and poor shooting, as well as not being helped by being penalized for the three handpass rule as we were about to get a shot off. Goalkeeper situation needs to be sorted out though in my opinion. Pick your top two keepers and stick with them, then pick your number 1 from that. Marcus Brennan is not a player for the future and we need to look at more long term options. We have gone through 10 or more goalkeepers since Andy has taken over.

I wholeheartedly agree, the goalkeeping situation has gone from bad to worse. I dont get the thought process behind putting outfield players in goal when there are many keepers playing senior football, even inter/junior in Meath who'd jump at the opportunity. It just sends a bad message imo. POR for example was great in the air and had a very long punt but was never natural in goal and had many, many howlers due to his lack of comfort.

Well tbh I am willing to defer that to the gk coach who let's be honest is perhaps the best loi keeper in country. As far as I am aware the whole gk position is entirely down to him , open to correction but I don't believe Andy was the one who called up dardis. And am I right in saying cluxton when he did play club was a outfield player!?
Look I'd also prefer a gk to be a gk. That been said I won't say anything when the new coach hasn't even had one real competitive game yet. The tipp game will tell a lot.

I agree, the Tipp game is big. It'll be a tone setter. Realistically, an average season of league/championship by recent standard could still see Meath relegated to Div.3, I firmly believe thats a nightmare scenario atm. Preservation is key in my mind. Now maybe Meath will go out and blow us all away and win those 5 games and maybe even have a shot at promotion, who knows?! Its the unpredictability thats scary. The goal should be performing to their max potential as in the Tyrone match last year, being creative, backing their team-mates, and winning small battles around the pitch, which will entice supporters and inspire confidence in the play. After that the results should come.

As a matter of interest what would you team be. ? I'm still undecided on a few positions.

I'll be honest with you I havent physically watched Meath play since summer 2018 so I couldnt pretend to write out a 15 man team at the moment.

Not a bad looking team. I'm still unsure about Flanagan at midfield though. Think Brennan will start too. But it's hard to know. Think the back 6 is pretty settled so wouldn't disagree with you there either.

Ahh I wouldn't worry about that young fella. I doubt those that pretend to be experts were at a game either, but fair play for saying it. Think you are a good addition to the forum. Mightn't always agree with you but that been said intelligent thought out posts.

My team for TIpp would be
Dardis - If all we can choose from is Dardis or Brennan then Dardis would be my pick.
Lavin
McGill
Ryan - Wouldn't be 100% convinced yet but he has earned his chance
J McEntee
Keogan
N Kane
Menton
Flanagan (would prefer somebody else but nobody to pick)
COS (why did he not feature against Dublin?)
Ben Brennan
Campion (ideally he would come on as a sub in the first few games but we need him to start because of a lack of depth)
S Tobin
McMahon
Newman
Biggie
