But they aren't a weaker team! They were finalist last year who lost by a point in extra time. So by that logic every team should remain junior forever and never move up the grades. Its only the two finalist that are being promoted (unless a finalist is a second team) so its not like they are picking a first team that didn't get by the quarter final to go up for the sake of making up numbers. Teams at Junior improve each year as do teams intermediate regress each year and get involved in relegation trouble, its the way things go. I think a 20 team intermediate championship will improve the standard of it as three teams are coming down from Senior with one possibly being a so called big gun e.g. Navan O'Mahonys who could very well get dragged into relegation trouble next year based on 2018 form, and another team who have been senior for a long time. That would force every team to up there game across the board as the intermediate championship over the past few years has dropped in standard year on year for a while now. Bringing down teams from Senior (who are just surviving there) will up the standards across the board I believe.

i agree i was the junior final last year as dunboyne were in it and vincents were excellent on the day. some really good young players who will only improve from last years experience. They also have Conor Hartford coming into the panel from minor last year who is a very good player. also to get to intermediate they will have to reach the junior final again so if they were to do that for a second year running they would clearly be one of the best teams in the grade and would deserve a shot at intermediate. its not as if there promoting some teams who've been getting hammered in the junior grade regularly.

Agreed if they have those two back for Championship they probably will be alright. It will become clearer after the draw has been made for the group stage, however I am certain a so called big gun may find themselves in trouble or will definitely be in the play offs which can go anyway on the day.

Why are you so certain though? Every year theres 3 teams involved in the relegation play offs. It has never once been a 'big gun'.

Will there be a playoff for relegation this year? Is it not just a case that the bottom team in each of the 3 senior groups is relegated?

the bottom 2 in each senior group go in to a relegation playoff as i understand it. im not sure if the bottom 2 in each group play each other again and the loser goes in to the playoff with the other bottom teams but defintley heard something about the bottom 2 teams from each group

Bottom 2 in each group go into relegation play off. I think it is fair enough and gives everyone a fair crack at staying up or going down.

Relegation from SFC shall be decided as follows - the teams that finish in fifth and sixth places in each group A,B, C each play one relegation game. The loser of each game will be relegated to IFC for 2020. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 565 - 11/01/2019 11:43:13 2156563 Link 1 |
