2019 Predictions?

Replying To gardentree:  "Mid Table in League I hope, last year we were to near the bottom for comfort.
Championship, If we beat Offaly i would say Westmeath or Laoise wont fear us to much. If you had the choice to play one of Westmeath/Laois or Longford last year we would all have selected Longford and look what happened. Some lad in an earlier post said our goals must be to win promotion to Div 1 and reach the super 8s, well that is what Andy will be telling and drilling into his squad but if you were to get the real truth from Andy he would say we haven't a chance of doing either. Andy should be looking at this year at blooding a few of the u20s from last year, putting together a respectable run in the league and championship and then next year build on that again. I see the job of getting promotion as a 3 year job and to reach the super 8s. With our minor teams from the last two years ready to impact in 2022. If you follow Meath football and are a realist you should agree with me. If your a supporter thinks because we are Meath we have the right and should be at the top , well you will be mighty disappointed once again."
Yeah I agree totally with that. Only problem I can see happening is Andy leaving at the end of the current campaign and you couldn't blame him. He puts up with a lot of unwarranted abuse and some Meath supporters think the current squad should be as good as our teams in the late 80s/90s.

What we need is stability and another manager coming in to start again will do us no favours. Think I heard an interview with Joe Sheridan saying too many managers in his time was a reason for Meath not reaching their full potential during his time with the county.

Wasn't doubting that and I'll take your word, as said I haven't seen Cilles myself and anyone I know who did do didn't go out of their way to mention him which isn't a cause for worry but didn't set my pulse racing either. Hope you're right as god knows we need new blood. You look at Kildare for example and they'll have Hyland come in this year(same age), struggling to think of our last highly rated forward come through.

I think you require more than a visit to specsavers - How many miles fitter is it 2 or 200?

Of course no matter what happens we must keep mcentee for another 3 years.

Sorry but is naming Barry Dardis in goals not a bit of an insult to the 3 other goalkeepers on the panel? Must be the only county to have 4 goalkeepers on the panel.

I dont understand the childish enthusiasm of a few individuals on this thread, year on year it seems to be the same naive rhetoric. I'll be at as many games as possible, I would like to see a strong showing in Div.2, it'll be a very tough league for every team. Outside of not getting relegated would be a good finish for the current Meath set-up. The championship has potential; its a golden opportunity to win 3 games and get to a Leinster Final. However, this Meath team for many years has not had the consistency required even against Div3/4 opposition and it won't be easy against Offaly with a new, experienced manager, Carlow (in particular, are dodgy and have no fear or inhibitions) and Laois/Westmeath (who will both be gunning for Meath in a Leinster Semi), those teams are not to be taken lightly and realistically Meath, Carlow, Offaly, Westmeath and Laois all have similar chances of meeting Dublin in that final. Meath will have to play well and play to their maximum level to tip the scales. Prediction? Very hard to predict Meath anymore, Id be glad of a few trips to Croker, and getting 4/5 games in the championship at this point. The league will tell all.

Paddy O'Rourke did it for years.

I don't see anything wrong with it especially for an O'Byrne cup game. We desperately need some competition for places within the team.

Look we all remember you saying how great we were under mod and how he was a fantastic manager. I often wonder is it yourself micko? No need to be ashamed to admit it.

There are 3 goalkeepers in there not including Dardis. How many goalkeepers do you need?

3 is what is required on a panel, think it's fair enough to look at options during obc. Don't see a problem with it at all.

Surprised that you agree with it considering your own club man will be effected by it.

I was at the Dublin V Meath O Byrne Cup game. Firstly I was sitting among most of the top 24 DUBLIN players in stand. Dublin were essentially a B/C team but that been the case I have to say Meath looked incredibly ordinary. I really don't know where Andy can't tale that team as it lacks serious quality up front, at midfield and at the back and probably less so at the back.

Conlon was exciting for 5 minutes he was on but Christ it's a stretch to expect young Conlon to improve us. Really think we will struggle to get out of Div2 again.

NFL Div 2

Home V Tipperary: W
Away V Donegal: D
Home V Armagh: W
Away V Cork: L
Home V Kildare: D
Away V Clare: W
Home V Fermanagh: W

Slightly optimistic here but it's a little bit of what I think will happen and a little bit of what I think we should be capable of. The Donegal one I'm giving us some leeway because supposedly Donegal haven't been preparing for the 3 hand pass rule. If that's true a draw is a possibility.

I don't think we'll beat Cork but you wouldn't know with them. Tipp and Fermanagh could beat us just as easily but if Andy has got anything to him the lads should be able for them.

Dublin always have an OBC team, they've still won 2 of the last 3, why are people acting surprised at this? Seems as though the whole country bar this forum is aware of their scary and unprecedented strength in depth.

Was it 2 years ago when they beat Kildare in their own backyard in the final, Kildare supporters said this was an absolute low point for Kildare football losing against Dublins reserves bla bla. Kildare then trounced us in the league opener a week later before going on to get promotion(and championship) and we are lead to believe Kildare are the next big force. Meanwhile Dublin go on win another AI with Scully for one playing a vital role, who no one had heard of until the OBC and getting MOTM in that final in Newbridge.

Not saying we will beat all around us in division 2 by any means but people need to get a grip and some perspective regarding Saturday.

I predict just avoid relegation hopefully in the league. Championship we should beat Offaly but id be worried vs Carlow. With a poor league and championship campaign last year and a loss to Dubs Kids in the Obc i cant see us doing much again this year.

Positive start so far but tougher tests to come. However by all accounts Cork were absolutely awful today and Fermanagh weren't much better so there's cause for more optimism in that.

Still have to get results elsewhere for it to matter.
