Good start to new season

Positive start for sure though Laois not at full strength and by their own admission not prepared for the new rules. Still good to see us rack up a few scores. A strong finish would have been nice but not necessary.

Great to see the new names get in on the scoresheet and Newman looking sharp for frees. Longford will be tougher next week.

Can anyone tell me how we lined up in terms of where players played? Also what positions are the newcomers?

Hopefully nothing serious - would be good to see him get a run in the team

Hopefully not bad. He was really showing the other night what he can do, before going off

I see on Meath daily on FB, Conlon been compared to Bernard Fylnn, High praise, The last person I taught reminded me of Fylnn was Stephen Bray. hope to get a closer look in the comming weeks hopefully injury is not too bad.

He is a superb player, of that there is no doubt, but I would caution comparison to any player just yet. But yes the best potential we have produced since his clubman.

It is a big statement but well warranted. This young man is a rising star but as you say time will tell.

From Meath GAA:
Frank Dempsey, Mickey Burke and Davy Nelson discuss the nominations for our Meath GAA team of the year. St. Colmcilles GAA Club star forward James Conlon is among the nominations. Well played James this year. For more see this week's For Club And County on www.meathdaily.ie Meath GAA

I tempered my comments by saying we have to wait and see, and used the word potential. There has been many potential great players who unfortunately never did it at senior level due to injuries etc. Gillespie been the prime recent example. But there is no doubt this young man has a unbelievable natural talent for the game, I'm delighted he hasn't been tempted by the afl. So let's just all wait and see, at the moment it's only potential but let's all hope it translates to what he is capable of.
