Nailed it well said. They left the team in lurch by jumping ship so late in the day. Let them off.

Comical Ali would be proud of some of the stuff in here. If ye really think it was just a coincidence that most Simonstown players didn't return after the league this year, then there's no hope for any of ye. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 01/12/2018 08:21:43 2152992 Link 15 |

Can anyone explain how this competition is working this year? Greenfield (Meath) - Posts: 413 - 02/12/2018 14:39:20 2153066 Link 1 |
Are they really a loss though?? That is more the question.

Nobody said it was a coincidence that they all left I am sure they all had there own reasoning for it. It just looks bad when three players from the same club (Three who got a lot of game time in the league) all left before the championship started. The funny thing is that Shane Gallagher was on the panel for the entire year and was dogged by injuries throughout, but stuck it out and started the last game of the year against Tyrone and was excellent on the day and put himself in a position to start more games this year.

Yeah and when we get back on form, im optimistic it will be this year, the likes of Conlon who jumped ship should be told to stay off the ship. Ive the up most respect for players who have stuck with this team trough our darkest days. When we are sitting top of Division 1 let them sit back and say....i should be part of that, enjoying the pride and glory but instead when things got rough i jumped ship. Hats off to every other player who has stuck it out thick and thin. Hon the Royals!

We are no position to be even thinking about sitting top of Division 1 next year or any other year. We are in division 2 and if this team were to get promoted this year it would be our biggest achievement since getting to the All Ireland final in 2001. We cannot even be looking past the first league game against Tipperary who gave us an absolute spanking last year in the league. They are an excellent team and if we were to beat them in the first game at home anything could happen after that, and if it is like the previous ten years that could mean going out and getting hammered in the second game. Nothing is guaranteed in this league apart from the fact that it is the toughest division 2 to date I would say. We have Tipperary at home, Donegal away, Armagh home, Cork away, Kildare home and Clare away. If we were to get promoted out of this group it would be absolutely incredible achievement. I am not saying it is impossible either as this team are capable on their day of beating all of those teams with the exception of Donegal maybe. Unlike the last few years we need a settled team from the start in this league with a maximum of two changes per game if needed. For the Cork game at home last year it looked all over the place with 5 or 6 changes from the game before which included the goalkeeper. Given that we are in Div 2 for 2019 i think you may be wrong on that one

I'm focusing on the future of this team. What happened the last few years has happened, past. We have a good background team from what i would say best in the country and alot of exceptional players. I'm optimistic as I'm sure 90% of supporters are, so I'm going to be bringing nothing but positive vibes here.... Loyalroyal17 (Meath) - Posts: 627 - 03/12/2018 14:20:10 2153183 Link 1 |
The best 'background' team in the country? New season, same Meath supporters still suffering from delusions of grandeur.

We need to start realising that despite the fact we are not All Ireland material we are also underachieving the last few years, promotion to Division 1 should have been achieved by now and it was no ones fault but our own that we weren't promoted with slow starts and a remarkable ability to be ultra consistent at being inconsistent, we also have had teams well capable of going further in the championship than what we have but again inconsistency, fragile mental strength and at times no luck whatsoever have hampered any progress. Getting promoted this year shouldn't be seen as miraculous, Tipp are a good team they are not excellent and subsequent performances after that awful night in Thurles proved that, we made Tipp look like a real serious team that night and remember a bog standard Cork team ripped them apart and Cork were in turned ripped apart by Tyrone who we should have beaten in Navan..........go figure!!! Outside of Donegal, who would in my opinion have the best squad of footballers in Division 2 next year, we should be capable of beating all other teams on our day with the head in the right place, and I've seen us getting a result in Ballybofey before when the chips were down so you never know. I've said it many times before this squad needs Division 1 football, e en if we went up and only lasted a year we would learn more in that year than we would in five years in Division 2, we won't improve significantly until we start playing the top teams on a more frequent basis
