we will do well to avoid relegation

Very negative, even before a ball is kicked, I, yes even me would wait for a few matches before dishing out the doom and gloom. Should not be too hard to motivate the boys at home for the opening game v Tipp. Win and the graph is upwards, lose or draw and promotion hopes are damaged but not undone. Pretty much agree with that assessment

I think most people will have Donegal and Kildare as favourites for promotion which is understandable, realistically we will most likely have to get a result against one of those teams to be in the mix. Tipp, Armagh and Fermanagh at home are all winnable with the right frame of mind, Cork and Clare away likewise, Normally Division 2 can be an unpredictable roller coaster but I have a feeling both Donegal and Kildare could dominate the division and any of the other six hoping to be in the mix will have to topple one if not both of them

I think consolidating in dv2 isn't a bad thing at the moment. Main thing is we don't go down. If we somehow find ourselves in a promotion push then great. But I don't see us having enough. The disheartening thing at present is the fact that we can't get the best 30(ish) players in Meath actually committing to the county panel. That has to be our foundation and hopefully introducing 3-5 of this years U20s into the panel. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 05/09/2018 23:34:20 2139697 Link 1 |
Think it's more realistic than negative. I can see us having to win our last two games to avoid relegation like last season. I can't see us getting two wins from the first 5 games. Funnily enough, the last time we won our first two games of the league (2012), we ended up relegated to division 3. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 06/09/2018 08:57:58 2139721 Link 12 |
It's hard to predict anything until we know how our squad is gonna be. Who's coming back? Who's leaving the panel? I feel we are caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment. Consistency of performance is vital and that's being our issue. Bit of a no-show in Longford and then a full blooded display against Tyrone. In the league we saw issues here too. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 06/09/2018 08:58:00 2139722 Link 1 |
Exactly, every dog in the street knows we have too many lads who are not committing and we need to know why !!

What u20's have we got to come in and make a difference this year do people think? Also think Donegal are certainties and kildare should go back up Northsidegaels (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 06/09/2018 10:42:20 2139756 Link 0 |
I suppose kildare and Donegal are obvious favourites for promotion at this stage. We're at a fairly similar level to the rest of the teams in the division after that so it's hard to call. Any two could be relegated all will take points off each other. Royalace (Meath) - Posts: 121 - 06/09/2018 11:00:24 2139765 Link 0 |
It's hard to tell for sure, it's up to management, but personally like Campion, Devine and Conlon. At least get them in the panel see how they go. Players like that need time. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 06/09/2018 11:05:09 2139767 Link 0 |
Ok I'm not going to get into ANOTHER Kildare thing. Hostility has ceased at least until January. But why does everyone think they are certain to go up? Yes they beat mayo in Newbridge but we should have beat Tyrone in navan, we lost to longford, they lost to Carlow , I don't think there is anything between either team at the moment, once you can nullify Kildare in midfield then they are not as good as some would think. That been said they have to be reapected. As every team has. The last twice we played donegal it was a 1 point loss and a draw. Hardly runaway victories? Anyway that's my 2 cents. I think we will beat both cork and Clare away and win 3 games at home. That should be enough. The one team I would be worried about and might actually have a good shout of promotion is Armagh, I think they will beat Kildare too royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 06/09/2018 15:49:33 2139847 Link 0 |
The only team I would say is certain to go up is Donegal. Kildare probably deserve to be favs to go up with them. Kildare can be funny, in the same season they lose to Carlow they beat Mayo. They are a young side and should improve again though. They are backed by a lot of underage success in the last 5 years. I do think dv2 is more difficult this year. Armagh and Fermanagh who promoted are both stronger than Down and Louth. Louth in particular are very poor. I would also say the Donegal/Kildare combo are stronger than Cavan and Roscommon, so to stay up we will need to improve. Last year I know we would beat Louth and Down, but it's hard to handpick victories this season. We will need 3 wins probably to stay up again and that has to be the initial target. But again what options playing wise will be available? ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 06/09/2018 16:40:06 2139858 Link 0 |

Thanks for your concern. Like most meath supporters we don't care what cavan, Louth , Westmeath , Dublin supporters think of meath football when they come okay understood here To tell us. We'll see cavan in division 2 next year.

To go off topic slightly I'm hoping to get over to a home match next season, just don't know which one to try and aim for? GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 275 - 07/09/2018 16:05:12 2140177 Link 0 |
