Use of the Pitch at Half Time.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I have been at a few games this year in Navan. Is there any reason why they dont allow the kids on the pitch at half time.
I have seen it in Parnell Park a few times and thought it was a great sight.

I agree it would be a special sight but they won't even allow team substitutes have a kickabout on the hallowed turf during the interval which is a farce in itself.

I have seen it at Senior County Finals in Parnell Park. Once the seniors came out ,the kids just scarpered without needing stewards instructions, was great. In fairness the people in charge of match day arrangements would need to be very cool individuals. Most of us would get blood pressure problems if we had to deal with it.

It's the same in Tullamore and Mullingar, hundreds of children go on to the pitches and just go to one area the kick football and another area to hurl, no stewards it just happens and as soon as the players reappear they return at once to the sideline or stand without a word. If it happens in Parnell Park, in Mullingar and Tullamore in cannot be an insurance issue in PT.

My god things are bad when we are looking to get kids out onto county pitch at half time.

Completely disagree with you analyst
This is an important issue as to the mindset of the powers that be
The kids should be encouraged to go on the pitch
That way more of them would bring Hurley's and footballs to matches which is exactly what we should be looking for
Then if they knew that they would be aloud do this more of them would want to go to match therefore growing the numbers participating in our games

It is absolute nonsense not allowing kids on to pitch
Rule made by small minded people who have long forgotten their childhood

I was at last years county final in Nolan park and you could barely see the grass on the pitch there were so many kids out there at half time and we all agree Kilkenny have a good model going for success

We seem to want to make rules about rules
I wonder if there was a county board official who would come on here and defend their position on this matter and none of this health and safety bullshit as it happens in many other grounds

Don't see the harm in it myself. Happens in mullingar as has been said. It gives them the goal to one day maybe play there wearing the green and gold.

I was at the Allianz League Semi-final in Wexford Park this year. Same as the kids were allowed on the pitch and it was a sight to behold. Parents went on with small kids and all were enjoying it and the players came out and even do they were getting ready for a second half walked on and took time to stop and talk to some kids. Unreal it was and that maybe is another element we are missing is the involvement of Senior (adults) assisting with kids.

Don't forget we were all kids at some stage

I Completely disagree with you Analyst , the GAA is becoming way too autocratic / bureaucratic . The game is for the people , the property of the GAA is in essence the property of the people, even though now we pay enormous amounts to view , play , visit any County grounds . Encouragement of this sort should be allowed . County players should be also allowed to interact before and after matches without pundits giving them grief for doing so .........

Maybe someone would answer this simple question:

Who will pay the bill when a child is blinded by a sliother or Hurley?

Well meaning as it is, that's idealistic nonsense. "The game is for the people....property of the people" is lovely and poetic in theory, but in reality the grounds are owned by Meath GAA (a private sporting organisation) and they can do what they want with them. Of course to influence how the pitch is used you're free to raise motions at county board level or vote with your feet and stay away from games, but it's still their grounds and not a free for all for everyone to do what they like.

It'd be like me demanding to drive a Garda car around or telling the national gallery to open up at 3am for me, since I "own" them as a taxpaying member of the public.

That is more likely to happen in the child's own club ground and is not an excuse. The children do not make claims -the adults are the problem.

It appears that we are going to remain out of step with our neighbours. I really pity the objectors hiding behind this H & S nonsense. If all the ducks are in a row they are happy whither the ducks ever lay an egg does not matter once they conform and remain in the row is all that matters.

This should not be seen as a criticism of Pairc Tailteann custodians. As it stands Children and childish adults like us are allowed on the pitch after matches. A bigger needle with me is what the Croke Park stadium Company get away with.

1 Free use of the GAA's main facility and players.
2 Giving themselves generous pay and conditions on the back of amateur players
3 Banning supporters from the pitch
4 Allowing it be dug up to make profits for themselves in the middle of Summer
5 Overrestricting GAA use of it on pretense it needs crowds of 40k to break even
6 Trying to bully Kildare GAA
