Well how do we see the last round going amazingly all teams in group a still in with a shout and while I think the top 4 will remain the same although who could write off another shock we've had them in every round so far nearly and could it leave the champions in trouble. As for group b overall it was a pretty good group with plenty of decent teams Longwood look back yo there best from a few years back and don't think anyone will look forward to playing them in quarters. Last spot between trim and navan will be interesting with trim getting a few players back can just see them sneaking it. Looks like dunderry back to intermediate hopefully they can rebuild and come back again. Flash27 (Meath) - Posts: 54 - 17/08/2018 12:22:55 2134038 Link 0 |

Delighted with top spot. Honestly thought that we would struggle to stay in group A for next year, let alone make the knockout stages. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 20/08/2018 09:34:01 2134632 Link 12 |
Group stages have finished up with all as expected in group B. begining (UK) - Posts: 277 - 20/08/2018 09:42:22 2134633 Link 0 |
To be fair to Dunshaughlin, wasn't it decided a number of years ago that Drumree would become a hurling only club to accommodate both Drumree and Dunshaughlin while Dunshaughlin would be football only for both areas?

True That hasn't worked out for Drumree whatsoever. Can't field teams underage. Amalgamating with the likes of kilmessan underage etc. Hurling is not promoted in Dunshaughlin. begining (UK) - Posts: 277 - 20/08/2018 11:19:50 2134662 Link 0 |
Seems the SHC semis were swapped around. Initial reports showed that we were due to play the winners of Killyon/Trim. Now it's the winners of Kiltale/Longwood. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 20/08/2018 11:34:02 2134670 Link 12 |
Extract from Co Board Regulations, "After the League stages, the top two teams in Group A qualify for Semi Finals with the Third and Fourth placed teams play the top two teams in section B in the Quarter Finals. A4 v B1 v A1 A3 v B2 v A2. The team that finishes 6th in Group A is placed in Group B for the following year and is replaced by the Top team in Group B. Bottom team in Group B to be relegated to Intermediate Hurling Championship. Senior Hurling Relegation; the same method above 6.20 TO Regulation 47(b) applies to relegation as qualification. That means that the winners of Kiltale (A4) v Longwood (B1) play Ratoath (A1) in one Semi-final. And the winners of Killyon (A3) v Trim (B2) play Kildalkey (A2). Those are what the Regulations specify and if it turns out differently then conspiracy theories can be aired. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 20/08/2018 12:58:47 2134708 Link 0 |
Kiltale will earn their 5 in a row with the draw. They are still everyone's favourites. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 20/08/2018 13:41:18 2134751 Link 0 |
I was at the Kilmessan v Ratoath game on Saturday. While Dunshaughlin is a great venue, it's biggest downfall is it is missing lights. So for the final 15/20 minutes of the game, lights would have been very welcome, for both players and spectators. Besides that, the game wasn't anything great. Ratoath were leading by 5 points at the beginning and just took their foot off the gas altogether, meaning Kilmessan came back into it and looked likely to win it. Kilmessan showed more hunger and want for most of the game. It was only when Bryan McMahon moved from the forwards into into the midfield area halfway through the second half that Ratoath came alive again. His pace and accuracy were what got Ratoath over the line in the end. B52M (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 20/08/2018 14:08:21 2134785 Link 0 |
Dunshaughlin have a 2nd pitch with lights, so I'm not sure why they didn't use that. It has been used for football championship before.

Anyone know why Kildalkey are playing all their games in Navan ? gardentree (Meath) - Posts: 194 - 20/08/2018 15:33:35 2134869 Link 0 |
Cannot shed any light on the Navan issue as they have taken down the floodlights there, (In jest). Seems odd but have they won a Championship lately? No. And they were able to win them when playing early rounds in Boardsmill, Longwood, Athboy, Trim and Dunsany I believe. So that somebody who thinks it is looking them may actually be hindering them. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 20/08/2018 15:57:48 2134888 Link 0 |
That is odd....definitely not a coincidence anyway. Would like to see the quarter finals played away from Navan: - Kiltale v Longwood play it in Trim - Killyon v Trim play it in Kildalkey or Boardsmill Atmosphere is far better away from Navan and no point dragging South Meath teams over there Belt (Meath) - Posts: 205 - 20/08/2018 16:58:56 2134916 Link 0 |
That's not quite how I remember it happening, My recollection (and I stand to be corrected on this) is that Dunshaughlin and Drumree combined at underage to form St. Martins. However Dunshaughlin felt that they had enough players of their own to field at underage level, so they pulled out of the agreement (as they had every right to do). But I don't think it was agreed between them that Dunshaughlin would be football and Drumree hurling. Dunshaughlin never had a hurling team anyhow and Drumree carried on playing football and hurling. However Drumree decided shortly after that they did not have enough players to keep the football going, so they folded the football side of it and concentrated on hurling only. Drumree should be well able to compete at underage level in hurling. They have the pick of the Dunshaughlin parish which is well populated. However they still have to go out and do the work to attract the young players. There are lots of other activities for kids now, so its not enough to just sit back and wait for the players to come to you. But to be fair to Dunshaughlin, you cant have a go at them for hurling matches being fixed there. They are doing the county board a favour by allowing their pitch to be used for hurling, when they don't have a team themselves. I cant imagine they get a huge amount out of it, given the average attendances at hurling matches in the county. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 20/08/2018 18:22:34 2134966 Link 12 |
I have two issues with this post. 1. Dunshaughlin did have a hurling team at various times over the years and also in the recent past as well. 2. The attendances at hurling matches are not low and do generate good income for the clubs collecting gates and indeed for the Co Board as it is quiet common that the maximum that a club can retain is reached. Same reason that the semi final pairing can magically change over night, If you are a Meath hurling person you'll know exactly why this is. I'd hope you've just asked the question to highlight it, instead of looking for answers. The mollycoddling that Kildalkey receive do them no favors in the long run. A semi final v a depleted Trim team or a Kilyon team that are off the back of two hidings will be poor preparation for Longwood/Kiltale/Ratoath begining (UK) - Posts: 277 - 21/08/2018 09:49:54 2135140 Link 0 |
