Totally agree with you, he has made a massive impact so far. He has made some exceptional saves and his kick out a vast improvement on good old O'Rourkes and touch wood hasnt caused us any games yet. Ridiculous why anyone would even think about not starting him!!

Hard to be optimistic about this game as after all we are playing against a classy side, albeit Tyrone will be far from at their strongest. I expect Tyrone to win by 5 or 6 in the end with Meath rarely troubling them. We simply dont have the threats upfront to trouble 75% of the teams in the country and this IMO will show against Tyrone. Through no fault of manager too many players are not available for selection. Tyrone will be down 5 or 6. Andy McEntee must be down 15 or 16 players!! tackleberry (Meath) - Posts: 324 - 05/06/2018 13:05:22 2107655 Link 1 |
Agree, his kickouts the last day were very good, of available options available he should start.

That's totally ridiculous. Are you seriously saying that our Devnish are given the same amount of financial support as AIG ?

Royal in general you're a great poster but if you're trying to say Donal isn't one of our two best players I'm worried for you. McGill and Keoghan are by a country mile the best players we have. No one else comes within an asses roar of them. To say otherwise would require a seriously blinkered view. There's not one of our players from midfield up that another county would be knocking our door in to get. It's time to be brutally honest about it. Since Bray left we've not had a decent forward at all. Even your beloved Biggy wouldn't get close to a panel for the top 6 counties in the country and he'd possibly make subs benches for the next 6.. We're all told these forwards have potential etc but I've seen nothing on a consistent basis to back that claim up. We need to be honest with ourselves and realise where we are in the current game.

Tactically we need to just throw everything at this game, we don't have much to lose really. We don't do defensive play particularly well and it doesn't benefit us against decent opposition. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 414 - 05/06/2018 15:07:52 2107726 Link 0 |
I'm sorry but our consistent best player. V Down, v Louth v longford v tipp v Clare etc was graham Reilly. Along with McGill. I'm not saying keoghan isn't a great player he is. I have a huge soft spot for him. But ANYONE I talk to from any other county, Westmeath, Dublin, Kildare , all say the player they fear or would want from Meath is biggy. Even at club final the mayo man said if he had mayo blood in him mayo would have all ire by now , Same at longford match, the six longford lads around me all said he was magnificent and would walk onto any of the Meath teams of past. I get the impression and have done for a long time that it's mostly in Meath that he is least appreciated. I don't know why that is. But you cannot say that keoghan McGill would walk into any other team (which they would) and not say the same about Reilly.

Not saying he wouldn't, but this year it's been McGill as the stand out player, with colgan lavin Reilly keoghan in close contention next. Where did I say keoghan wasn't a great player?? royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 05/06/2018 17:31:30 2107785 Link 0 |
Injuries destroyed him, unfortunately had huge potential.

Agreed. The one thing that has improved massively is the goalkeeper. Por might not like to hear that. But it's the truth.

Keoghan and McGill are good but defending should be easy when you have 12 players behind the ball- maybe I'm incorrect but was not the Longford full forward one of the best on the field. It is difficult to be a forward if you are playing in the HB line most of the time and considering that there are few backs who can accurately pass the ball 30 to 40m, or indeed set up an attack (lateral and back passing seems to be the art most of them practice). You also require one midfielder to concentrate on defending. The Tyrone match will be interesting as they are not at anywhere near their best and home support /ground will count for something in these matches. The best of luck to all involved. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2189 - 05/06/2018 17:59:03 2107795 Link 14 |
Your personal agenda against Paddy is clear for all to see. He gave excellent service to the green and gold for the best part of 10 years and represented his province and country with distinction also. A bit of respect wouldn't go astray. Have a listen to his podcast with Meath Chronicle's Fergal Lynch lately, a superb interview.

Don't think RD was being disrespectful, he was just stating Colgan has been better and especially his kickouts are a big improvement. Well done to Paddy he gave a lot of commitment to Meath football for a number of years and deserves nothing but respect. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 05/06/2018 20:07:39 2107835 Link 11 |
Paddy is cost more matches then I can count and I am for one happy that he no Longer part of panel his attitude is all wrong like a lot of Meath Players that have left panel some of them needs reality check and I just hope we keep going well at underage and bring the be talent through and hopefully bring glory days back to Meath football.

I thank him for his service. However he wasn't as good as colgan to say otherwise would be a lie. Now you might like to tell Untruths. However it's plain to see that colgan is a better keeper. And only a complete gobs...e would say otherwise. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 05/06/2018 21:44:52 2107861 Link 1 |
Exactly. Colgan is a improvement, again I thank por for his services to Meath gaa. But I ain't gonna disrespect colgan by saying he not a better keeper.

I genuinely don't have a problem with paddy in his playing days. Yes that interview was disrespectful to Meath gaa, management, supporters but above all HIS teammates. I actually think he regretted it immediately. And who hasn't made a mistake? I wish him well in his club career . But he is gone and won't be back, and colgan IS a better keeper. That is a fact.

So if somebody doesn't agree with your opinion they're 'a complete gobs...e'. Get a grip, as I have stated and will continue to point out you're knowlege of football and particularly club football in Meath is very very limited

I think this game is 50:50. A goal could well be the difference at the end of the game. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 05/06/2018 22:17:27 2107874 Link 0 |
