To quote your chairman "Enough of the stand will be open to facilitate the attendance." I wonder what the exact capacity for this game is? I know it's hoped that it would be up to 9,000 when the repair work is completely finished. Meath will bring a large crowd anyway.

I do hope its the majority of the stand that is open. It has been an embarrassing enough situation regarding the stand over the last few seasons. It would be great to have a large Meath crowd down to add to the atmosphere.

Large crowd will attend. There is a hardcore element of Meath supporters, who go no matter what. We will bring I'd say around 4000.

Really looking forward to this one, but unfortunately I won't make the game, which is a shame because I have a few mates from Longford that I'd love to watch the game with. I have a planned p*ss up down the country this weekend so that takes Longford out of the equation. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8583 - 21/05/2018 14:23:52 2102658 Link 7 |
Me too. Can't see too much deviation from obc final. But I could be completely wrong

Agreed. Heard something interesting over weekend, ALLEGEDLY, we played a game v Galway few weeks ago and won it narrowly, with both sides fielding strong teams. Now I always add something to these challenges (particularly behind closed doors) in 1996 we played a challenge against limerick and Tyrone we were well beat in both, (added to the idea we would get beaten by Carlow). However we all know what happened royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 21/05/2018 15:28:14 2102687 Link 1 |
The differences between the '96 team and 2018 teams are huge, unfortunately we are nowhere near winning a Leinster title never mind an All-Ireland. Sunday's game in Pearse is our All-Ireland, beat them and stay withing 8 to 10 points of Dublin will be a decent achievement.

We did play them but we were narrowly beaten. Conceded two very early goals and recovered really well, apparently it was extremely physical stuff!

4000!!?? Is that a realistic figure or a romantic guess? While I appreciate the traditional history of football in Meath and the general population of the county but will 4000 people honestly travel to see a team that and no offence failed to inspire of late? Maybe I'm wrong and not trying to be patronising at all, I would just be surprised (Delighted also) to see that amount of an away support for a 1st round leinster game.

4,000 is totally unrealistic. Around half of that number or a little more will travel. Looking forward to the trip.

First game last year for us v Louth was a sell out or surely very close to it, Parnell Park holds about 13.5 I believe, then Kildare game drew a crowd of just under 13 in Tullamore for a similar journey. Granted both games are historically and geographically bigger games for Meath for obvious reasons, but on that basis I don't think 4 is a stretch, I'd certainly hope not anyway. Gone are the days of having an eye on bigger days for now anyway, as mentioned each game is our biggest game. As supporters the only impact we can have directly is the support we bring which is vital, and a simple concept that becomes lost at times. dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 198 - 21/05/2018 17:49:24 2102746 Link 1 |
Just to clarify I wasn't comparing teams. What I was doing was showing how these challenges cannot be used as a barometer for any actual championship game. I merely used 96 as a example. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 21/05/2018 18:25:47 2102754 Link 0 |
Well that's it then. As I said impossible to read anything into challenges, once no one picked up a injury is the most important thing.

Totally agree. We had I think near 6 in Parnell park last two years. I was actually lowering it down due to it not been a major derby game, I'd be shocked if less than 4000 attended.

There was 8,000 at our game against Louth in Parnell Park last June.

Those who have been following Meath for a long time know the amount that will travel. (Dunboynelad) If we take last two championship starts (granted both v Louth) 2 years ago it was sell out so I think it hold around 13 k (Parnell park. )While I'd say more Meath attended even going 50/50 or less it's still 6000, same last year. Now take away about a 3rd who won't go due to it not actually been a derby game I'd say 4000 is conservative estimate , similar number went to Kildare game. Again though they would be a higher rival and bordering county which longford is not. Heard differing numbers for the obc final, but we had probably more supporters at it than Westmeath in Mullingar, I'd say between 1500/2000. So yes I'd be very surprised if we didn't bring 4000 app , and we are on a bit of a high after 3 wins on the bounce. So people genuinely looking forward to this game. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 21/05/2018 18:40:02 2102761 Link 1 |
Plucking numbers out of the air there? There was 8,000 at our game against Louth last year.

Think in or around 4,000 is a realistic figure, we will need all the support we can get

Parnell park holds 13499, you saying it was just over half full?? You obviously were not at the game, either that or you haven't got a clue. Which I must admit is a distinct possibility.

So I if I were you I wouldn't go with the auld official attendance lark. I'd love to know where they would have fit another 5k in lol.
