When is this starting? Any word on a panel? ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 07/05/2018 21:23:24 2097154 Link 1 |
28th of May Wicklow away, 4th June Kildare at home, 16th June Laois at home. They are the three group games. Top the group and it's a semi-final. Second and it's a quarter-final

Panel has been training away under Brian Farrell for a few months now. Think they have had a few challenge games along the way. Not sure of the names on it yet.

What was the final score in the Galway Vs Meath U20 match in Ratoath a couple of weeks back , was it 4-16 to 4-10 in Meaths favour . Meath_True (Meath) - Posts: 285 - 09/05/2018 10:33:37 2097478 Link 0 |
this years U20s should be a good side, at minor they lost out after extra time to Kildare by a point in game they really should have won, Kildare got to all ireland even though they were well beaten by Kerry, longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 300 - 09/05/2018 12:32:01 2097525 Link 1 |
Yeah. That was one of the best minor we have had since Andy's. Hopefully majority of them have been kept.

It should definitely be a strong side this year, a lot of the players were involved with the u-21 side last year and that experience will be important. The form of some of the players in recent championship action has also been very encouraging. I assume the bones of the squad will be made up from a strong minor team two years ago and when you add in Conor Moriarty and the likes of Darren Gibney and a couple more who weren't involved in that minor team 2 years ago there is a lot to be hopeful about. The Ratoath pair of Rodgers and McGown should be on it imo, even though neither played minor. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 09/05/2018 17:38:49 2097633 Link 2 |
What club is Gibney?

Will be interesting to see the squad when it is released. Players like Saran O Fionnagain, Liam Shaw, Cathal Finnegan or Sean Martin should be on the team in my opinion. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 09/05/2018 20:31:17 2097670 Link 11 |
Darren Gibney is from Moylagh and I have seen him playing quite a few times over the last couple of years in the junior championship and he has been really good, sticky defender that attacks the ball very well. Sean Reilly is another Moylagh man who will surely be involved as he started at midfield for the U-21's in the championship last year, add in Jason Scully (Oldcastle), Kevin Gilsenan (St. Bridgits) and Cian and Frank O' Reilly (Carnaross) and their could be a good North Meath representation. Its been interesting to see how wide the net has been cast in the last couple of years, there is lads from literally every corner of the county making underage teams at the moment and this has to be a very positive development because for far too long county underage teams were being dominated by Division 1 & 2 teams. Team or panel?

Also wonder if any of last years under 17s are on it? I do hope we have Conlon and Moriarty inside.. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 09/05/2018 23:07:57 2097715 Link 1 |
Why are some people obsessed with North / South meath representation? It's ridiculous. The best 15 players play and meath win and I'm happy....couldnt care less if they are all from one pocket of the county or 15 different areas

A lot of people are quick to point out when there is a low representation of north meath players on the county senior panel but unfortunately there hasn't been enough players of sufficient quality that were good enough to be on it but I believe that is going to change in the next 2-3 years with a lot of hard work going into players from this region baring fruit as this years U20's panel seemingly have a very good mix of players from clubs like Carnaross, Moylagh, St Bridgits, Oldcastle, Nobber and a few more. The minor squad this year is also hugely populated with players from smaller clubs all throughout the county with Oldcastle, Rathkenny, Kilmainham/Drumbaragh, Moynalty, Dunderry, Clann na Gael, St Ultans, Kilmainhamwood and St Vincents ardcath from east meath all represented on the panel. Yeah Meath underage teams over the last few years have had a lot of Div 1 and maybe Div 2 players . A lot of these players were very good also and would have played in higher paced games as opposed to other divisions . But I do agree that it is good that players come from every division as there are 2 or 3 very good players in every club . I would like to see 2 representatives from every club in Meath on all underage teams from under 16 level down . I don't think it matters how many players we have on panels up to that age as we can have any many teams and players playing as possible . It would give us a great choice to pick for Minor level .

I agree couldn't care less what part of meath the players are from. It always seems to be people from North meath who make an issue out of how many players are from North meath or south meath.

If a lad is good enough to be on a panel it doesnt matter where he is from, if there are 15 players form 1 club then fair play, a huge amount of work has been done over the past 5 or so years with Development squads from u14 up, my own fella has been involved for the past couple of years, there was over 60 last year with the 14s, it is down to about 40 this year with some new lads joining the panel as they have improved over the year, even the lads not on it this year have been given S&C plans, no mad weights or anything just stretches, supporting their own weight etc and diets, longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 300 - 10/05/2018 15:37:48 2097883 Link 0 |
3 of the under 17's last year are on it. Sean Ryan, Jordan Morris and Shane Walsh. Think Walsh might be injured though. Daithi McGowan from Ratoath that age also on it
