Good win to get the ball rolling today. Team is very big and we really dominated possession around the middle. In the first half the ball was delayed around the middle too much but we were more direct in the second. I don't think this team has an inside forward like Jordan Morris or Banty Conlon like in the last few years but Kelly, Bell and Mitchell did have very good flashes so could prove me wrong. Maybe Costello will end up in there like he did on last years under 17's. But the star of the show and off this team is Cian McBride. He is a Rolls Royce in midfield, phenomenal athlete, caught about 10 kick outs I'd say, massive size and really mobile. Even drifted in full forward to flick in a goal from a free. I hope nobody from Australia was watching but I fear Conor Nash might not end up being the only Meath man in the AFL

Was looking forward to seeing this game. Unfortunately I've spent my weekend in bed with a unmerciful flu. And couldn't go even though it was quite lose to me. Look a win is a win. Think there were high hopes the West would get a result here. Delighted they didn't.
Hon the royal.

Ya good win, they blitzed Westmeath in the second half and thought that might happen. Talented group, they play a lovely brand of football. Overall a good team performance , but we can't afford to lose talent like McBride, looks better than Nash at this age tbh.
According to a lad behind me, the aussies are after him.

By the way anyone know how many teams go through from the groups?

Thats the annoying thing about putting good work into underage teams ...Aussies will always have first pick of our golden eggs sadly , And not a thing anybody can do about it

Great win, Westmeath at home was a tough proposition so to come out with a 13 point win was fantastic, good to hear positive reports in the performance and as supporters we need to get behind these boys, underage success is crucial to reestablishing ourselves at the top table, best of luck to these lads going forward.

That is true Ziggy...you would imagine with all the Dublin u21 success they should have at least have 4 or 5 guys playing their trade in Australia..

It's odd isn't it? Thing is like Nash, McBride has power, pace, good handling and agility.

Only the top 2. Have the Dubs, Wicklow, Longford and Louth left. Can only afford 1 loss to be guaranteed a semi final

Kilkenny went over and came home, McCaffrey had trials I believe but size was an issue. https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/afl-warning-for-dublin-quartet-113650.html. This link shows something that might have something to do with it. 4 Dubs in 2010 told if you go to trials you are dropped from the panel. Dubs also have the pull of handy promotional gigs for money, great shot at winning All Irelands.

Without tempting fate, I suspect it will be Meath and Dublin from this group

Think it's Offaly rather than Longford?

The aussies also interested in Liam Byrne last year's u17 captain.

The Aussie are not the problem. How many players from the county has gone there over the last 5 years? Our problem is that we keep looking for excuses instead of concentrating and managing what we have. The best of luck to the minor going forward.

We did nothing at underage for the last 5 years to catch the eye of the Aussie ...now that we are starting to put good groundwork into our underage teams they might ! Nobody is looking for excuses but merely looking how to ring fence the problem if it occurs....your kick the can down the road attitude sounds very exciting :)

Lads, the Aussies don't take many players overall, and even then a very small percentage of stay passed 2 years, then you have a returning player who has been a professional for 2 years. anyway we should be delighted if we are producing fellas considered good enough to go. its been a long time in the wilderness. Why do we always look for the negative even where there are none.
