i'm not swiping at anyone just merely stating my opinion the squad as a whole is not balanced it is full of forwards as seen on saturday. natural midfielder playing corner back, wingforward/cornerforward playing midfield. they had 3 injuries all to forwards (heff, marsh and toher) and the way the game panned out not sure they would have made a huge different. hopefully they can rally and get a result in mullingar they faded badly against westmeath in the league srgt_slaughter (Meath) - Posts: 462 - 09/05/2018 16:02:46 2097607 Link 0 |
I'm more a football follower, but I like to see Meath do well in hurling too. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 12/05/2018 19:25:49 2099876 Link 3 |
Not really. We've simply stepped up to a level we struggle to compete in. We came last in the group last year and are probably odds on for it to happen again. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1391 - 12/05/2018 21:14:05 2099886 Link 11 |
Sorry lads but someone has to say it. We are going backways. I don't know how much these kilkenny boys are getting but it appears to be a complete waste of funds. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 13/05/2018 18:28:00 2100082 Link 1 |
That was a shambles. All those saying swallows and summers and lads wanting to play in an attempt to belittle what Ennis achieved really need to be honest. Never mind the trophies he won!! His teams at least had a go!!!! In_da_ditch (UK) - Posts: 165 - 13/05/2018 18:35:21 2100085 Link 1 |
We se to b playing a fast paced game but then we are walloping balls into small forwards.nit our strengths watching that today bullied to easy Reco (Meath) - Posts: 419 - 13/05/2018 20:18:40 2100167 Link 0 |
Meath forwards are as big as the westmeath forwards. I thought both meath gave it everything they were outplayed by a better team. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 13/05/2018 20:30:47 2100177 Link 0 |
Only the second time I have seen them this year, but thought they were very poor. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 13/05/2018 20:55:11 2100197 Link 0 |
Simple thing was westmeath were a far better drilled unit with all players playing to a predefined role. Meath just looked headless with every player outplayed and as per every game this year our backs and midfield were way too loose. How is this not being worked on after it been evident for so long now? How many times did westmeath get easy scores by Meath players leaving lads unmarked. Westmeath got scores a lot easier and Meath ball striking was shocking again. Some of our lads couldn't hit the ball 20m or pick out a simple pass. How things have changed in such a short space of time and I think management have to accept responsibility. It was a gamble choosing a management team with no senior county experience but when he was only 1 in for it I don't think there was much options. Fitzgerald has brought in some players but none of them up to the required standard. Again evident today. I'm not sure where things go from here but I can't see us picking anything up in the next 3 games to prevent a return to Christy ring toon (Meath) - Posts: 246 - 13/05/2018 21:58:07 2100219 Link 0 |
Fitzgerald had intercounty experience. He was there 4 years ago and that wasn't great either!!

According to an All County Hurling League report on HS Anthony Ford played with Kiltale over the week-end, so he is back in the country again. Hopefully he will be available to county again. I know the argument will be made that he has been away from the squad for a while but necessity is the mother of invention and midfield is a problem area, is he part of the solution? or maybe wing back and put Joey Keena up front! In my book we need every available hand on deck to back on course to some extent.

I'm no hurling expert, but was at game on Sunday, dont think the score line reflected the game, Meath very loose in defence which is obviously a worry, Westmeath got scores far to easily, in the second half Meath wasted so many opportunities, so many wrong options taken. Mark O'Sullivan was good when he came on, I dont think that Westmeath are that far ahead, just more clinical mainly longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 300 - 15/05/2018 12:02:05 2100930 Link 1 |
He hasn't left yet, departing in the next couple of weeks for the States, that is why he isn't involved at present.

This explains something, but we are not over endowed with hurlers so could he not have been involved for as long as possible, in other words maxamise your resources.

Any ideas on what team the management pick for the Carlow match ? gardentree (Meath) - Posts: 194 - 17/05/2018 16:20:30 2101738 Link 0 |
Forde going to play in states so can't play inter county champ before he goes.

Went down fighting today. Or were Carlow weakened by their bad manners last week? If Carlow were weakened then it is proof that we have gone back since the League because we played the entire second half a man down with a similar type of score line. And the Westmeath result last week backs up that point. Next up is Kerry at home and this should give the team a chance to prove that the League result in Tralee was a freak. A win against Kerry alone will not save the season but it should add confidence and I think that is badly needed. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 742 - 19/05/2018 17:53:11 2102158 Link 0 |

Can't argue with any of this. Bring back the S&C coach from the last few years too to put workrate back into them too
