I recently just learned that the Under 17 football & hurling ( Minor ) finishes in next couple of weeks and there are no games scheduled for these guys tlll late August according to Meath GAA . I have a young fella aged 17 who will have no GAA to play until August. These guys are mainly in 5th year so not Leaving Cert students. I think a lot of these kids will go to other codes Soccer especially as is played in the Summer now. I think Meath GAA is letting these kids down and clubs will lose these guys in the future . A League needs to be put in place to keep these guys playing Bear10 (Meath) - Posts: 328 - 14/03/2018 13:31:51 2084522 Link 2 |
Sure hasn't there been 3 games in the muck and bog in February and March. Numerous games called off and then when the wearher improves and long evenings come in there is nothing....... and mark my words there will be underage games being played in November

yes absolutely it does not make sense at all. No games in football or hurling for 4 to 5 months in the summer for these 17 year olds. interesting to find out if other counties treat their players like this. I think all clubs should should make a statement to county board looking for a competition to be set up for these young guys to remain in the gaa

It is bizarre! The idea of getting rid of the Minor (under 18) bracket was because so many were preparing for leaving cert! Then they come up with a schedule that actually would have suited kids doing the leaving cert!! Royalblufill (Meath) - Posts: 284 - 15/03/2018 15:17:34 2084761 Link 2 |

very dissappointing for these young footballers and hurlers.with no gaa from March till August for most. Other codes will be the real winners .

Yeah - the soccer clubs in particular will be out in strength sweeping up these guys! Madness!

yes you are correct ..most of these guys from football and hurling are signing up for soccer clubs as there are no games scheduled tll August at this new minor level. All clubs should complain to the county board and insist on a new competition being formed . The only players playing will be county minors with rest of these young players forgotten about

Reading the Seneschalstown report from their Division 1 final win over St. Colmcilles last night. The Yellow Furze men lined out with three Rathkenny players in their ranks. Toney (Meath) - Posts: 294 - 13/04/2018 15:31:32 2092857 Link 3 |
I have been told there will be an u17 championship.

Yeah thats correct. Three other clubs would not take the players before they joined Seneschalstown. It was a poor enough game, and once Seneschalstown went ahead in the second half they were never going to be caught.

I find it hard to believe that Rathkenny only had 3 17 year olds. It seems that only their stronger players transferred.. What team do they play for next year ?? Where are the rest of the lads gone at this age ??

There will be - but starting in late August - so nothing between now and then other than under 19.

I would be surprised if other clubs wouldn't take these 3 lads - they are all on the county squad and are good players. The under 17 championship (this years minor) will be an interesting competition - there are 4 or 5 teams in or about the same standard and Senschelestown are now top of the pile with those 3 lads added. Probably will be in this order in terms of favourites Senschelestown Colmcilles Dunshaughlin Ashbourne Ratoath Dunboyne O'Mahonys Royalblufill (Meath) - Posts: 284 - 17/04/2018 16:25:37 2093614 Link 0 |
its an absolute Disgrace, Log on to Dublingaa.ie their Minor footballers have 11 games scheduled out from end of Feb to July, our lads got 3, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who will have the better players moving into Adult Football/ Hurling, they then throw on an u19 league by the time you play your 19 & 18 year olds you probably only end out giving 3 17 year olds a game... that's exactly how Clubs only end out with 3 eligible 17 year olds still playing. the county board should be ashamed of themselves, ABD09 (Meath) - Posts: 44 - 18/04/2018 08:23:18 2093707 Link 1 |
I think an under 17 league needed to be formed for our players .something needs to be formed between clubs for a competition with fair play rules as the county board failed these boys

With with meath under 17 leagues for both football and hurling finishing for most clubs at the start of march (unless you made finals) a lot of 17 year olds will have no GAA till start of July which is approx 4 months away. I think meath underage are letting these lads down again and seem only to be interested in county underage players who will play all year. Soccer leagues have changed to march now and will take most these players . Don't know what other counties do . ANY comments

Dublin and Kildare, both play under 18 not under17 with Dublin playing up to end of May . They take off June for exams and are back 1st week in July. I think the under 18 leagues should have left in meath as a lot of lads not strong enough for adult Pity we have no football or hurling for 17 year olds from march till July

Under age for 15 - 17 is a joke - a rush through with no thought and yes the other sports will gain. A disgrace. ALLGAA32 (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 01/04/2019 15:05:17 2177003 Link 1 |
