I dont see how it was an over the top response, I said Paddy has played outfield for Meath and didn't seem up to standard (1point from play in 4 games from Full forward) and Mickey Newman over the last 3 years hasn't seemed up to the pace of the Intercounty game since his injury, but if continued to play well for his club could hopefully rediscover his form of 2013 (all star nomination year) and I would happily eat my words, however I just don't see it happening myself. Both are opinions of mine based on the stats. Its not a personal jibe at either player or where they are from. A players club has no bearing for me on their ability to play outfield for the county if I think they are up to the standard, playing well in 2-1 league games at this time of the year for me isn't enough, it needs to be done in championship and on a continuous basis as Lenihan did with Dunboyne before being called up to the panel, thats all I said. ratlag (Meath) - Posts: 323 - 13/02/2018 22:36:01 2076661 Link 1 |
He could maybe, but you would make a weak half back line weaker.

Explain two things to me 1. How are Kildare my 'beloved' county and back up your answer with proof and 'facts'. 2. When did I ever 'big up' up the Rossies? Show me the 'facts' where I supposedly did. I shall wait patiently and with great anticipation for your response. RoylerKing (Meath) - Posts: 809 - 13/02/2018 23:49:39 2076667 Link 4 |
I wasn't referencing your response. I agree form needs to be continued into the Championship, which I said. I'm not sure cherry picking stats from 5 years ago proves much. I would expect when it's pointed out that a lad is showing great form and if he keeps it up he should be considered for the county panel, if he's interested, most people would say fair enough. Not on the Meath forum apparently it's met with fire and fury like the world has never seen, to continue your Trump theam! pauk123 (USA) - Posts: 189 - 14/02/2018 01:56:14 2076671 Link 1 |
i would certainly love to see Newman back in the fold. He is a top class operator and a real eye for goal. A natural forward and dont forget an excellent free taker which we dont have at the moment. Maybe some time away from the fold would help and i would not like to see him disappear. We always looked a more dangerous team with him there. Injuries and lack of form have not helped him but he is one we cant forget. Also physically he has some of what we need. However i feel it will be his decision and it depends on how he applies himself now.

When the last time we beat Cavan ? i think our recent record against has been poor to say the least. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1192 - 14/02/2018 08:06:43 2076681 Link 0 |
Course he could he's a great athlete and footballer but think he is perfect for half back!! Think it would be crazy to move him !

Again, you're making it seem like your innocent of merely suggesting POR gets a run again...it was the comment on the clubs against the Dublin border that set some people off (including myself tbh). As for the Trump theme, I think the point that poster was trying to make is that you appear to be insinuating that newcomers to the county are not real Meath supporters or entitled to opinions of players regarding making the county team. As if newcomers are second class citizens that dare not question those living here longer. Certainly an interesting simile but now that I think of it, quite apt!! Only had a brief gander at other counties forums, but from what I seen on them it would also only be on the Meath forum that you'd have someone as hostile as you towards people from clubs in a certain region of the county or people who are new to the county. "Talk about finding it hard to take a post seriously...maybe like much of Ratoath you only arrived in the county recently, in which case, I apologise as you might not remember these lads playing for Meath" I mean it's clear from that quote alone that you're the one who stoked all the tension here. I've gone way off topic but just wanted to get that off my chest. Anyway, hope we can put one over Cavan, but they always seem to up it against Meath. I remember them knocking us out of the championship in one of Boylan's last years in charge, still rankles with me! An Mhí abú dunbainneman (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 14/02/2018 09:42:14 2076696 Link 0 |
Apologies Paul, I think I meant that post in relation to Crinigan as opposed to yourself.

There is a big difference between facts and stats! Stats are flexible and can (and is) used to validate a point. Now about supporters-most people know that people bordering their own county are always going to very strong supporters. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2189 - 14/02/2018 10:48:25 2076714 Link 13 |
Would love Newman back, but his free scoring had dramatically declined since his first year. And mckeever lenihane Tobin Brennan would all be more reliable free takers than Newman at the moment

Lads, the poster in question has had a problem with Ratoath going back years. I'd pay no attention to them. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 14/02/2018 19:39:33 2076896 Link 13 |
I have said this before and I will say it again, I don't care if a lad is from rathoath, Ashbourne oldacstle , bettystown ballinabrackey, Meath hill Kells (think I have most the outer regions covered there) when they put on the green and gold they are all the same. Meath players. That is all. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 14/02/2018 20:09:46 2076903 Link 0 |
Well clearly.. Why would anyone say anything different??

More or less agree except the Laytown/Bettystown area. They can go to Dublin, Louth or anyone else who'll have them!!

Just to finish the whole pot thing, he has made it absolutely clear he has no interest in playing again for Meath. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 15/02/2018 20:25:41 2077238 Link 1 |
