This should be replayed in Mahan on a pitch that can hold the game. Breffni park has a terrible surface during winter and is not going to be much better tomorrow. Jinxie (Meath) - Posts: 6158 - 10/02/2018 17:39:01 2075443 Link 2 |
Sweet Jesus I was on the Belturbet bypass having drove down from Donegal I would have serious doubts over that game going ahead tomorrow given photos I've seen of the pitch. I hope there is an early pitch inspection tomorrow morning Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3590 - 10/02/2018 17:57:32 2075446 Link 13 |
Exactly Richie. I can't see that pitch being ready tomorrow. There should be an alternative pitch put forward, and if not suitable, then it moves to navan.

I'm pulled in at Enniskillen now for a Costa and a fag an it's still horsing rain down here, if that pitch recovers by tomorrow I'll be amazed, especially when it's down in a hollow

Well I drove from westmeath but your journey is hell of lot worse. Can Cavan organise nothing? I'm livid

Even if it didn't rain from now till morning if be surprised at that pitch being ready. It is known for having a very damp sod in the winter that pitch, so this shouldn't have been a shock to them. Especially given that you have the groundsman on the Cavan forum on Thursday and Friday questioning if it could go ahead as there was still snow on the pitch, so surely they had time to be looking at alternative options. Snow forecast for morning in Cavan area. It won't go ahead if that comes

According to RTE Radio pitch inspection being held at 8am in the morning Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3590 - 10/02/2018 19:16:16 2075468 Link 13 |
So if it's already looking like it can't happen tomorrow with the weather coming, is there anything being done in the background to look at an alternative pitch so that a decision can be made early and if people are told at 8.00 in the mornikng that the game is i n Cavan or navan or Longford or wherever that it's maneagabe and they aren't waiting until it's too late and then saying it can't be moved at a late stage. There is no hope of the pitch being playable by tomorrow. The pitch inspection is just a formality. There is even less chance of the game being moved out of Cavan. Are there other pitches capable of holding it - I can't imagine the rain is confined to Cavan town. It will be moved to next weekend and the o Byrne cup final postponed until after the league. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 10/02/2018 19:39:30 2075477 Link 12 |
This would be the most sensible solution. That obc final is an inconvenience in the middle of the league with both sides likely to be experimental. Move it until after the league and it would provide a competitive game before we get into the championship.

Feel sorry for all the warriors that made the trip. But speaking to a guy that travelled early and was if Cavan the was horrendous rain there this evening. On a positive note maybe it will be played in daylight after all lol
