Whatever.......... that is NOT what we did against Clare as a tactic. What HAPPENED in the first half was incompetence on a large scale....No excuses!

This comment is totally untrue. All you have to do is read Andy's interview in this week's Chronicle to see how frustrated he was with the first half performance versus Clare.

That is pure ridiculous!!! I know for a fact that the manager was as perplexed as everyone else about the first half against Clare. Fitness may well be a factor but a more positive attitude on the pitch and fresh pacy players coming in when opponents are tiring are probably more plausable reasons for the improvement. I firmly believe we are progressing, and one of the main reasons ironically is that despite the talk about who's missing, I actually think that with the emergence of a new bunch of talanted players, this manager now has more options than have been there in recent years. (Look at the bench against Clare!!) A few bad defeats and that statement will look very silly but I'm very hopeful. But please stop with the playing crap is a plan routine!!!!

I dont think we intentionally played to make errors...7 drop balls and 2 crap goal attempts. I do however believe we did intentionally wear Clare out in the 1st 35 mins as we did to Roscommon, both teams 10 mins into 2nd half were knackered & legs starting to go and we had our foot firmly on the gas & ran them ragged. While i dont think its the most reliable thing to do as Cavan could punish us big time 1st half for this i do think thats how we will play again tomorrow hopefully without the stupid unforgivable mistakes that were made.

Agreed 100% Ridiculous. Your last sentence sums it up nicely

Thank you. I had just about given up on this forum before I saw your post. Delighted to see there is still some sense around. Someone posted their idea that Meath use a nonsense tactic like this on a recent thread and now people are throwing it around as if it's an undeniable fact. This place makes you want to cry sometimes.

1-11 from Paddy O'Rourke today, 1- 07 from play. I know it's only the league but if he continues that form in the Championship he should asked back as a forward.

As a Dublin fan my whole life I find the league and Leinster series all very sterile now.

We usually win and the lads who start and come in all usually do well, leaving no real debate on who should or shouldn't start.

As such I've adopted Meath as my 2nd team, which would've been unheard of even 5 years ago for a Dublin GAA man.

I'm looking forward to this weekends game against Cavan it's a big one, I have put a considerable enough wager on yourselves and the Dubs (-5).

I've been a casual observer on this site for quite some time and have. Been an interested reader in the Gramhe Reilly debate.

For me the situation strikes me to similar as the Ciaran Whelan debate that raged in Dublin for years.

Whelan was great for dominating Louth or Laois in the early round of a Leinster championship but was often overwhelmed and bullied in a sense when you got to any sort of serious game.

I feel that tends to happen with Reilly sometimes as well, he kicked some lovely scores and moved well the last day against a piss poor Clare team.

He needs to back that up with a cavalier type performance against Cavan this weekend.

The last point in this long winded post is that I would believe in the project that McEntee is building.

He took a bang average Boden team to an all Ireland, having spoken to Boden men after their win they were completoy shocked at what he managed to do with that panel ( see their recent slide back to mediocrity).

Anyway best of luck tomorrow lads my head and wallet will be cheering you's on

They're obviously not purposely playing bad in the first half.....thats just ridiculous talk....but they do seem to play alot more conservatively then they do in the 2nd....a bit more defensive and certainly alot less support runners. Ya don't want to get blown away early...keep it tight and then go for the jugular when your opposition tires. But even with that they should have had another 2-4 on the board in the first half last week.

Eamon wallace & Sean Tobin replacing joey Wallace & Bryan McMahon respectively.

Strong team. Actually very strong. Thought Eamonn might start, didn't expect sean to though, as I think he is better used as a sub. Perhaps attack from start is the plan ? I don't know. Once we win I don't care

Meath (Allianz FL v Cavan):

Andrew Colgan;
Seamus Lavin, Conor McGill, Donal Keogan;
Brían Conlon, Brian Power, Shane McEntee;
Bryan Menton, Adam Flanagan;
James McEntee, Padraig McKeever, Graham Reilly;
Eamon Wallace, Cillian O'Sullivan, Sean Tobin.

Subs: David Gallagher, Mickey Burke, Daniel O'Neill, Shane Glynn, Harry Rooney, Ben Brennan, Thomas O'Reilly, Shane Gallagher, Bryan McMahon, Caolach Halligan, Liam Ferguson.

No Joey Wallace thats a loss. I think he picked up a injury in the clare game. No Donal Lenihan on the bench that's a worry going forward. Otherwise happy with the enough team. Its about time we won of these big games. Looking forward to it.

Yeah. Might not see Donal starting a game until championship , bit of a worry

Well obviously attack from the start..If this team is as fit as you say they are then that shouldn't be a problem!! This myth about not attaching in the first half is bizzare..Tonight is the time to shine and stand up and be counted and I have huge faith in this team so expect a good performance!! Good luck lads we will be cheering you on ..

Well said very good post hopefully Reilly can do the business tonight. I like the look of the team lenihan is a loss as I expect a big year from him does any of the dunboyne lads on here actually know what the story is with him?

Donal playing league for Dunboyne last night scored a penalty and a few points looked good to me

Can't wait for this game. Dirty weather forecast this evening-strong wind and rain....

Are there any good nightclubs in Cavan?

Delighted with that team. Tobin starting could be what we need. He should have full 70 minutes in him. Reilly on form running a muck 1st half is key for us. Shouldn't always be relying on him but we do. Wet messy conditions forecast lets hope it will suit us. This game is vital we need the win.
