Replying To nobull456:  "Disappointing to put it mildly......But unfortunately that has become the norm almost now . We are mentally weak no doubt about it .THAT IS THE PROBLEM AREA ! for the last few years......Physical fitness no problem thanks to Andy. We have to get up to speed on mental preparation also. Mentally fragile examples Fear of doing the wrong thing, not taking responsibility for having a go when feasible. FAR too much lateral passing and going nowhere. etc. etc. etc..
Boylan had the natural ability to coach for mental toughness. The gap he left in this department has never been filled. Not surprising as it is not every coaches cup of tea to deal to the extent required now in this critical area. Dublin bring in specialists to coach this area. Why cant we do the same ? As we are now without trying to fill this gap in training we will just stagnate at best.."
Do you know why we cant bring in specialists because we dont have the thousands of euros that are pumped into the Dubs!!!!!!!!!! Simple as. Dont compare us to the Dubs we dont have their resources.

I've seen numerous Meath posters say better team "on the day". Is this just a turn of phrase or do Meath folk think they're a better team than Cavan?"
I,d say that the best you can hope for. No doubt Cavan are a better team and will remain so until we can start to beat you

Replying To nobull456:  "I completely disagree of course you can coach mental toughness. i happened to see Boylan in action at close quarters on this on several occasions.....ask any of his players. Yes we have a small number who will have it .and agreed the majority don't at present"
Absolutely, it's just another form of strength, some people are physically stronger than others, some people are mentally stronger than others but once the desire is there you can certainly work on mental strength.

JonSmith we all see Meath all the time. When we click we have a very good side. When we are firing on all cylinders it typically lasts for 20 minutes, if/when the tide starts to turn we have literally no one to steady the ship.
If we were to put together 40/50 minutes of performing at our best we'd beat Cavan and every other team in D2 out the gate.
I don't see Cavan all that much but you may well be able to say the same yourself. As for Meath we are consistently inconsistent, even during games. That's the most frustrating thing about this Meath team. You can point to evidence that we are a good side on the way up and also we are awful. You'd be right in both cases!

Whilst you have a point there. If we want to compete with them we need to prepare properly. Furthermore, if we are really serious we can find the resources . Maybe have a good luck at how we waste money on occasions. The P.T. floodlights fiasco for example . Absolutely up to management team to negotiate and justify whats tools are needed to do the job. Otherwise stuff your job.

While i can see your point there about the flood lights there is absolutely no competing with the resources & funds the Dubs have. I think we need to be preparing mentally more so than physically. Our lads are in good shape physic wise but alot of our problems are in the lads heads if you ask me.

Had a few bad games and didn't appear yesterday, thought he should have been brought on, but there you go. Still though, I'd say he will have a say in tipp game, there is a kindaa of horses for courses game I think
On another note, who will mark quinlivan ?

Really? Sure if Cavan "clicked" for 50 mins they would also beat everyone out the gate too. Truth is Meath are not as good as cavan and haven't been for a good few years. If that beating didn't show you that then you must have your eyes closed.

With Quinlivan its about limiting the supply of ball into him, even then he drifts out the field to keep himself involved in game, best of luck to whoever gets the job.

Either McGill or keoghan I'd instruct to go with him wherever he goes. If there was a transfer market himself and Murphy of Carlow be the two at top of my list

Unfortunately Tipp have two more forwards that would be in high demand in any transfer market

Yeah it's a bit of a mad statement right enough. If any team in the country could dominate a game for 50 mins they would win all the time. Reminds me a bit of Cavan in the 00's. Opposition managers kept rubbing our bellies after they defeated us telling us that one day we wouldn't kick 15 wides and someone was in for a notorious hammering. Of course the day never arrived but it was easier to lap up that sort of nonsense than to face reality.

Until Meath players and fans start thinking of themselves as an average at best (Middle 10 of the 32 Counties) team and come up with a plan to develop the players and teams to improve and push on to a competitive level rather than thinking of themselves as a top by right county based on the accomplishments by previous and long retired players and teams they are going only one way and that isn't even to be competitive.
Some of the nonsense that is written here about "getting Meath back to where they belong" etc. etc. is typical of Meath fans attitudes. Looking at the game last Sunday in Breffni the players appear to be playing with the same mindset. You wouldn't even think they were from the same county or gene pool as previous Meath players from the last decades.

It was a push in the back, watch the replay. Push in the back is not a black card. A deliberate pull down is. Now you can argue the rule is stupid and I wouldnt disagree with you but that is how it is written. The referee correctly showed a yellow I think.
