Massive game in Cavan next week. It will be a good indication of where we are at. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 750 - 04/02/2018 18:02:31 2073930 Link 0 |

Louth made a very average Cavan team look good. If we can up it a gear and play for 70 mins like we can do for 35 this should be handy enough for us. Loyalroyal17 (Meath) - Posts: 627 - 04/02/2018 18:22:04 2073946 Link 0 |
I agree we should win but Cavan have been a bit of a bogey team for Meath in recent years, Cavan also playing at home and were fairly competive in last years div 1, need to be on our game to win this one which I believe we will.

Good second half performance today we should have been out of sight at half time. Dropped at least 7 into keepers hand. And then bad goal chance missed. Most positive out of today backs looked pretty solid. Full back line was full of confidence MeathOnHill16 (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 04/02/2018 20:24:06 2074037 Link 0 |
Have to admit I don't know much about the current set up in Cavan. It's probably going to be an unreal physical battle, it always is when these two sides meet. Still good to see us top of the pile, for now at least. Surprised at Tipp's capitulation today. This is going to be a group of shocks and surprises no doubt about it.

I reckon we will win this next weekend. It may be only 2 games in but we needed to start laying down some markers. Last week, our backs were to the wall and we got something from the game. Today we played a Clare team who looked totally devoid of ideas in the 2nd half but we went and hammered them. People may say it was "only" Clare but its about time we developed a ruthless streak in us which has been missing for a while, keep the foot down and push on for more scores. royalfan4life (Meath) - Posts: 76 - 04/02/2018 20:59:46 2074063 Link 0 |
Couldn't believe tipp today either. Look a win on Saturday I think will set us up nicely for after the break ( hopefully with obc win) to finally be back to where we belong.

What way do Cavan set themselves up? Do they get back in numbers and run at the defense on the breaks. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 414 - 04/02/2018 21:53:43 2074093 Link 0 |
Not sure about the way the play, but you can sure they will up for this one.

We can be guaranteed they are going to give us a good run on Saturday. If we can get off to a good start we will have this game won. Hopefully no changes to team. They did to Louth what we did to Clare so this game can go either way. But i reckon this game is for our taking. Loyalroyal17 (Meath) - Posts: 627 - 05/02/2018 09:13:36 2074155 Link 0 |
I know very little about Cavan. Roumours that there was dissent within camp I'd take with a pinch of salt as look what was said about Meath earlier this year. All lies as I'm sure is same in Cavan

I heard they are similar to us and a lot of players left panel this year. I think we should be in no mood to take any game for granted in this division. Approach every game with the same level of respect not matter what condition any team is in or who beat who etc.. We took our in of the ball a number of times in recent years. And look what that did.

One win from three against them in the league in recent years. All at home. One a hammering and another a classic second half capitulation. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 05/02/2018 11:54:06 2074219 Link 1 |
I think Andy McEntee is setting us up to be a second half team. Getting us to contain the opposition in the first half, don't let it get away from us then in the second half give it everything. It's a good strategy to dictate the pace of the game and play it on our own terms. We probably can't play hell for leather for 70 minutes so why bother over training to reach that level. Particularly against Dublin, teams can match them for a half but that's it. Better to try and contain them till the second half and then go toe to toe with them then than bursting out of the blocks only to fade down the stretch. Im of the same opinion. Theres no way he can let us play that bad in every 1st half then come out like a new team without having tactics. Is he trying to let the other teams run themselves ragged that come 10 mins into 2nd half they are wore out and the legs are starting to go, just when we start to get a lease of life?? Its risky, paying off just about, for now but still think we need to be doing more in the 1st half especially against the stronger teams.

This tactic would not work for us in Division 1..Teams would bury us and we would have very little opportunity to win !! But at the same time huge credit has to go to Mcentee this teams looks good at the minute.. I was very pessimistic after seeing a number of players leave the panel but to be honest only Harnan and maybe O'Coilean are really missed !! Huge thumbs up to Andy

Exactly Andys not stupid, far from it and when i was standing there watching that 1st half i just thought to myself how can this be happening again. Brand new team 2nd half. Its a learning curve for him aswell and he is doing a great job so far. Hes trying things and seing they are not working and changing them for the better. Hes turning this team around and i think hes going to do it alot quicker than what people are giving him credit for. We have some super players there who kind of made me forget about the likes of O'Coilean, i was gutted to hear he wasnt playing this year and i didnt think he would be replaced that easy, how wrong was i!
