Meath v Roscommon

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the O Byrne Cup postponed full attention is on Dr. Hyde Park for next Sunday.

A tough trip and a game no team with hopes for promotion can afford to lose.

I personally do not think we will come away with the points but first match is always tricky.

As I said on the other thread I think the team will be 90% then O Byrne Cup final team.

Ah, thank god Royalio11 thanks for starting a new thread getting very bored of the last one. I agree I cant see getting any from the game.Plus we need a major step up from the rubbish that was severed up v Longford.

Also going to have a stab at the team. I think Adam Flanagan is really unlucky not to start. And going by recent form I think we need to find a spot for him along with Menton and Rooney.

David Gallagher
Seamus Lavin, Conor McGill, Mickey Burke
Donal Keogan, Brian Power, Brían Conlon,
Bryan Menton, Harry Rooney
James McEntee, Cillian O'Sullivan, Graham Reilly,
Joey Wallace, Donal Lenihan, Sean Tobin.

very good team but I think he will start burke and Shane Mcentee in backs for lavin and glynn . Rooney and Flanagan will start midfield with Menton centre forward with joey Wallace in off bench

Dont think Rooney will start this one, needs more game time. Flanagan and Menton in midfield

Burke will definitely start. Not sure about Rooney, think he will be brought in gradually.

you are probably correct re Rooney when I think about it but I just think this time of the year with wet pitches conditions might suit him with his level of fitness . He defo needs game time so I would give him a go from the start as he offers a huge physical presence

He need someone athletic in midfield, so it has to be Rooney or Flanagan alongside Menton imo

A tough start no doubt but these are the challenges we must face up to, I've said before I think we need a minimum of 4-5 points from our first three games to be in the shake up for promotion so taking anything from the Hyde would be a great start as this is possibly the toughest of the four away games and one that if we were to win would give us a serious boost going forward. I'm looking forward to it and hope we lay down an early marker and possibly we could be getting Roscommon at the best time in the first game. Having lost out on promotion to them on the head to head result a few years back we should lack no incentive whatsoever but a 70 minute performance will be required as these Roscommon boys clearly have the edge over us in experience in terms of having played Division 1 the past few years and of course being Connacht champions. I hope we see a decent level of Meath support in the Hyde next Sunday as we all have a part to play even those of us on the terraces.

Could be totally wrong but i think
Rooney might be used more as second half sub for first couple of games. But I agree with you on the general points.

Based on what I've seen so far in tems of selections and performaces I'd imagine the team against Roscommon will be something along these lines.

Gallagher
Burke
McGill
Keoghan
McEntee
Power
Conlon
Menton
Flanagan
McEntee/Brennan
O'Sullivan
Joey Wallace
Biggy
Lenihan
McKeever

I'd see Biggy being brought out to a 4 man half forward line and a 2 man inside forward line.

I would also think McMahon wouldn't be to far off the starting line up depending on the head injury he sustained against Longford.

Has anyone got any idea as to the condition of the Hyde pitch these days? I know they did a lot of work on it last year as it was nearly always unplayable at this time of year. Forecast for the week shows more rain so wouldn't be surprised if this gets moved or postponed.

Any idea why Power wasn't named in the squad for the OBC final - thought that was a strange one and made me wonder if he would be involved next week. I think you have named a strong looking team here - wouldn't argue with any of teh selections
