Meath V Westmeath

I think Leinster Council are breaking their own rules by fixing this game together with a Central Council fixture. Originally the O'Byrne Cup, as well as the Kehoe Cup and Walsh Cup were tournaments organised by Leinster Council the fund the original "accident fund" or injured players fund. So how would the proceeds of Sunday's game(s) be divided? But I think the link with the injury fund has long been lost. Even this year the Dublin Co Board did not bother to collect a gate at the Meath v Dublin Walsh Cup game at Abbotstown and there was a decent crowd at the game.

Looks like it is going ahead! I had a slight giggle at the last paragraph of the above article

Leinster are keen on this arrangement as it gives their fixture and competition sponsor Bord na Mona added exposure. Páirc Tailteann in Navan cannot be used as it is hosting the All-Ireland junior hurling semi-final between Ardmore of Waterford and Donegal's Setanta on the same day.

Navan could not be used at 4.00 in any event! It was dark by teh time the game finsihed last week and that was with a 2.00pm throw in!

It is a fair old hike for the two teams involved in the junior hurling semi too!!!!!

Just seen on the main page that there is a pitch inspection for a match tomorrow in Mullingar. So doubt that'd be in great shape on Sunday if we were to play there

I was thinking same thing. Actually I need to know asap, as I was to be somewhere on Sunday (obviously not as important as Meath football) but handy to know so I could give my apologies.

The weather forecast for Sunday in both Portlaoise and Mullingar is very poor so it's not looking too good for the game to go ahead. In the event of a cancellation, the game is refixed for February 18th.

I wouldn't even bother playing the game if it doesn't go ahead on Sunday, we need to focus on the league and and playing an O'Byrne cup final in the middle of the NFL isn't ideal. Either that or McEntee could just field a totally new team and see how they get on.

Throw out the under 20's like Kerry did in this comp last year

If I remember the new rules correctly I don't think any of them can play for a senior team.
Anyway if it's not until Feb I'd send out the b team

It'll be the b team whenever the game goes ahead

That rule only applies for championship. Can play League and O'Byrne and go to the under 20's.

Personally I would have played Power at 6 and dropped Shane McEntee

Meath (O'Byrne Cup v Westmeath): Andrew Colgan, Seamus Lavin, Conor McGill, Shane Glynn, Donal Keogan, Shane McEntee, Brían Conlon, Bryan Menton, Adam Flanagan, James McEntee, Cillian O'Sullivan, Graham Reilly, Joey Wallace, Ben Brennan, Padraig McKeever.

Subs: David Gallagher, Alan Douglas, Robert Garry, Eoghan Greene, Conor Dempsey, Liam Ferguson, Donal Lenihan, Mickey Burke, David Toner, Harry Rooney, Eamon Wallace, Sean Tobin, Mark McCabe, Paddy Kennelly, Thomas O'Reilly.

Joey Wallace starting a game eventually. Hallelujah, But the game is most likely not going go ahead LOL...
Anyway who really wants to play now too much talk about player safety etc (even though this might be flagged correctly ). Physiologically If I was a player I would rather be keeping my power dry for the league. rather than risk a injury in this fixture.

Didn't realise that. Thanks for clarifying.
Team named. Looks pretty damn strong.

Can't be dropped, certain of his jersey. If this was Micko there would be some clamour

Andy using what he deems to be near enough to the best team available. I would be surprised and disappointed if he did otherwise. Getting his best players into the groove of teamwork for the Roscommon game is his priority and rightly so .
The game to morro is only important for that reason.
