Very similar team to what Westmeath were using in the league apart from Heslin who is a massive loss obviously. Looking forward to seeing Westmeath in the championship they must have some serious gems they've been keeping up their sleeves. Meath are no world beaters but the performance yesterday was encouraging. It will give the team confidence going to Longford. Royalace (Meath) - Posts: 121 - 14/05/2018 09:46:48 2100375 Link 0 |
Not getting carried away by any stretch and taking into consideration the opposition but : longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 300 - 14/05/2018 10:12:12 2100391 Link 2 |
In the past our only answer was Biggy, it's great that others are stepping up when he's not on his A game. Have a feeling he'll perform against Longford. Still think we have a solid core that we need to keep in the next few years and add some talented youngsters from underage etc. McGill, Keoghan, Menton, Cillian, Biggy, Lenihan are our core imo. Lavin and James McEntee are also improving.. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 14/05/2018 10:32:16 2100400 Link 3 |
Exactly, if we go into championship with a spring in our step, moral high and spirits up our confidence will be up there too and this is going to help us mentally which is major for this team especially after losing a couple of key players. We are by no means world beaters is right but everyone got a kick out of what they lads displayed yesterday. Restored that bit of faith we were missing.

Ive said a few times before about us losing couple of key players but looking at yesterday if im honest we didnt miss them at all. Not once did it cross my mind that we need to get Tobin on 2nd half to do damage, i actually forgot all about him. The names above you have mentioned and role models for our underage coming up. They are the back bone of this team!! Loyalroyal17 (Meath) - Posts: 627 - 14/05/2018 11:06:55 2100435 Link 3 |
Yes also in the longer run, there is more potential in Tomas O Reilly than Tobin for example.

This is correct although McKeever was the loss in that round of drop offs. Maybe Newman, who apparently has his fitness and mojo back , could come back in as an option.

All of the recent drop offs from the panel are a loss or they would not have been on there in the first place, but more important that every squad member is fully committed and all pulling in the same direction

John Heslin for starters. He may not have been available but still missing. Eoin Carberry, Denis Corroon, Killian Daly, Francie Boyle, David Whelan are others off the top of my head. Noel Mulligan, Ger Egan and Ronan O'Toole would also be starters and they only came on. Stephen Gallagher, Ronan Wallace, Conor Slevin and Darragh Daly only joined up with the squad recently and they all started. So it was very much a makeshift Westmeath team and not very similar to the one which lined out in the league as suggested by another poster.

I sat in the stand wbu? We played reasonably well but you're deluded if you think we are looking good for Longford. Yesterday's performance won't be good enough to win at Pearse Park. Need to deliver our best performance yet under Andy McEntee.

Jeez fair play to you, anyone would think you had the Westmeath blood in the veins or you have done your homework on that team. Hope your knowledge of Meath is as apt.

As i said before always one...and you are that one today!!! I take your opinion on board dont agree one bit as it is only your opinion. Good luck.

I live and play club football in Westmeath so my knowledge of football in the county is alright I suppose.

You don't agree one bit as it is only my opinion? Calm down lad. I'm not on here to roil anyone up. I went along to the game yesterday and it was a glorified challenge match with both teams out in the championship in two weeks. All well and good putting up 4-13 against a makeshift Westmeath team. Hopefully we can do it in 13 days time when it matters most.

It makes my day. What's sad though is these are mostly anti Meath people. I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me, I welcome open debate and differing views. Just don't see the point in been hidden. But I love the thumbs down, gotta be honest the more I get the better it is. Lol royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 17/05/2018 07:15:55 2101577 Link 1 |
