I hazard a guess and say the darkest day in our football history. V Westmeath Leinster semi final

Well said, I missed the match due to work but great to hear such encouraging comments. I lost interest in when this game would be played during the league but it turns out playing it two weeks before championship was an ideal preparation match, hopefully this positivity continues into the next few weeks

Yeah. In past there would be a tendency to panic. Not a bit with 14, and stood stern with 13.

Absolutely agree. Showed Steel. Something that has been lacking from Meath teams in past few years. No nerves no panic. Perfect prep for championship.

Heslin was a loss today to Westmeath. And probably won't be back for remainder of year. But no one to blame. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 13/05/2018 22:00:43 2100222 Link 1 |
Exactly...we should have been out of sight at half time. I just thought we looked sluggish the first 10-15 mins. It's just the small margins. The most gratifying thing about the last couple of games is the amount of goals and goal chances we are creating. Overall we are missing about 50% of scoring chances but the amount of goals we are scoring is impressive. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 13/05/2018 22:21:25 2100235 Link 2 |

Not much to take away from today's win. Westmeath used it as an opportunity to give game time to their reserves. They had a weakened team that's for sure. We probably had more regulars but hey the win papers over the cracks going to Longford. ISupposeSoSheehan (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 13/05/2018 22:34:35 2100246 Link 2 |

Agreed, thought that Westmeath were very naive at times, I doubt Longford will be..

Firstly no one is getting carried away. We should always beat Westmeath in football and we did so convincingly today. Losing a few years ago to them was a disaster and am happy menton today got some payback as he was that team that lost that year. MeathWawa (Meath) - Posts: 61 - 13/05/2018 23:51:40 2100299 Link 4 |

I think what impressed me yesterday, was that we had great balance.. When Westmeath attacked they had very little space and we defended well and In numbers. But at times we attacked with devastating pace and we had a lot of options with runners coming from all angles. But also we played some good foot passes into Lenihan and McMahon. So we mixed it up well depending on the situation. However at other times we were patient when we had to be and kept the ball well and kept recycling. An example of this was when we were down to 13 men, Westmeath didn't touch the ball for about 3mins and we eventually worked a score. In other words we played with a lot of intelligence. The key is obviously to see that more consistently and that's what you work on. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 14/05/2018 08:44:10 2100340 Link 3 |

Im wondering if its me who is on the wrong planet pal!!! Not much to take away...was only saying during the week on this that some people just never happy. I said if we were to win yesterday that someone would surely say Westmeath were weaker and would make us look good. Where abouts in grounds were you yesterday?? We were very strong out there yesterday. We played as a team down to 13 men. Alot of positives to take from this game. Without getting carried away we are looking good for Longford. Great win and much needed to boost all supporters hopes after the League aswell as the team. Longford will be a test but if we show the same commitment we should be fine. We need Lenihan on form like that the next day out very happy to see us scoring goals again and making chances. SheridansTry (Meath) - Posts: 168 - 14/05/2018 09:45:09 2100374 Link 2 |
