Meath v Longford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post


I would be giving as much game time as possible to new faces on panel on Sunday, Toner and Brennan are 2 that have impressive over the first 2 games. would be nice to win the OBC but more important to find 3 or 4 players that will improve things for the season ahead, I would be holding the more proven lads until the 2nd half. we know what Biggy etc can do, this is a good chance to see what the new boys can do. hoping that there is a good crowd there on Sunday to support the lads. All 26 can be used on Sunday so its a chance to mix things up a bit, dont see the point in putting out what we perceive to be our best 15.....

I'd maybe be tempted to play the two players Andy reckons would be the starting midfield pairing (probably Menton and Rooney) so they can develop an understanding, that's the only players I'd have fixed in at the minute.

Colgan
Moran, McGill, Glynn,
Lavin, Conlon, O Neill,
Menton, Rooney,
J Wallace, Brennan, McCabe,
Tobin, O'Reilly, McMahon

If Toner, McKeever and Gallaher are fit then I would start both.
I don't see a point in starting Lenihan, Keoghan, Reilly and Burke as we know what these guys can do and will get plenty of game time in the league same with Shane McEntee and Power.
Now if we are looking in trouble I would introduce these lads to steady the ship but it is time for McGill, Menton, Rooney, Wallace and Tobin to stand up they have been around long enough there is 40+ lads on the panel at the minute no time for passengers.

Yea exactly we know what these lads can do, why leave til we are in trouble to put them all on? Thats what we dont want...to get into trouble in the 1st place. We want to win games...no?? Brennan was just a knock I heard, mckeever I don't know how serious. Didn't know about Gallagher, what happened? Any word on Kennelly?

That is what I am saying we need other lads to stand up to get us out of trouble. No point relying on Biggie and Lenihan for scores all the time because the best teams will just man mark the two lads and say "Meath have no one else now to get scores" Let us see what Wallace, Tobin and McMahon can do when they are needed.

We won the OBC a couple of years ago under Mick O Dowd and where did we get to that year?
Dublin, Mayo and Kerry don't give a hoot about these pre season competitions if they win it great but if they uncover a player or two even better.

Gallagher got taken off against Carlow with hamstring. Didn't hear anything about Kennelly, did he not finish the game Sunday ok?

I was at the Carlow game, thought Gallagher wasn't that bad. And btw thought you were talking about gk , doh. My bad.

I suppose im just like a lot of people that are so used to this team we have where we have to rely on the likes of Biggy and Lenihan for scores & we all know any chance any lad gets he takes Biggy out or tries to. We need to start building confidence and i can see where you are coming from. Im excited to see what Wallace has to offer this year, ive a good feeling about him.

I have always felt sorry for joey if I'm honest.
He was thrown onto a team in year of his leaving cert, everyone could see
his potential, but that was one of the worst things a manager could do, some of our fans gave him a undue hard time , the abuse that was thrown at him when he was brought on v westmeath in (that game I want to forget ) was shocking. I felt we had ruined a good prospect by effectively throwing him on before his time, now I hope he gets his chance, he has bulked up quite a bit and hopefully he takes his chance.

I agree He should get more Gametime,...Im 100% For that but lads are talking him up like hes a guaranteed Starter in the championship first 15..Now he might well go on to do that but chill-ax on the talking him up and Just let the guy play football against some better teams..It wont be until League games until we see that so save the judgement until then..Finally I only reply To royaldunne in a negative way when his incredible "Colmcilles" Biased attitude pops up..

In fairness to Royal Dunne he was saying Ben must play in the semi final of the O'Byrne cup. Which I agree with, he looked good against Carlow. If he looks good in the Longford game and maybe a final then he could be used in the league. If we don't play him in the Longford game we won't learn if he deserves time in the league

Not been biased. Imo he must play obc semi and should we progress final, this way he builds up confidence for a probable league outing when the stakes are much higher.
