I heard that he was a one of the players who declined the opportunity to join up with the squad. Heard it had something to do with college and focusing on his club

A full Forward line of Morris, Conlon, Moriarty.Half Forward line of Ahern, Walsh, Daragh Campion. With Jason Scully, Frank O'Reilly, Sean Martin, Eoin Smyth on the bench. As forward units go, not too bad. Not sure will the defence be as strong is the only problem

According to a so called fan. Very few are turning up to training and the challenge matches on main forum. But he was too busy waxing lyrical about Kildare to give any of his expert opinions. And we wonder why these so called fans are doing down the team and management on here. Perhaps they over the border? royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 30/12/2017 08:39:20 2066219 Link 1 |
Scully Oldcastle too. More than likely I have forgotten someone too! Hopefully they keep them all fit as the bench likely to be decent too ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 30/12/2017 09:37:52 2066220 Link 0 |
That's very disappointing if so to be honest. We need our best young talent to be joining up.

How about midfield? What are the options there? Devine would be one.. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 30/12/2017 10:16:27 2066224 Link 0 |
If players weren't turning up to training, MCEntee would walk.

That's what I would have thought but I have heard similar rumors.

It's probably best to draw a line under the whole thing. Some of us are concerned that many of our best players have left the panel. Others think that the squad needed freshening anyway and welcome the new additions. I support the management but have been a bit disappointed by the progress so far and by way some players were treated. I also don't like people insinuating that those that dropped off weren't committed or don't have what it takes. At this point, the only thing to do is to row in behind the current team and hope that management know what exactly they are at. Getting into Div 1 would be a very good achievement. I'm not too bothered about championship as getting into Div 1 is more important since we won't be competitive in championship until we are playing regularly in Div1. Unhappy how some players are treated?

Would you not agree that there was a level of softness compared to other teams and counties? That O Dowds methods were too easy going? Former Meath players have commented on this.. I know some players did not want to be associated with that.. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 30/12/2017 11:30:38 2066240 Link 1 |
Think that was generally accepted Micko was" too nice" for the job. However, finding the right balance must be the objective. Man management being critical to instill confidence ,commitment, belief and all the things Meath had in abundance in the past. Andy as a novice at this level deserves the time to develop himself into the job. I am sure it can be easy to fall into the trap of believing shouting and roaring is the most effective method to coach/manage. I give him total support in taking us from where we are now. Of course like anyone else he will make mistakes. The real mistake or shortcoming would be if he does not learn from those mistakes. nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 841 - 30/12/2017 12:32:53 2066244 Link 1 |
Yes Devine from Na Fianna . What other players under 20 are playing in the midfield position at senior level for their respective clubs that might be good enough whether having played at County level or not before.? it is such a specialist position that their must be lads out there we don't know of on forums

Young McGowan for Ratoath? Campion can play there too. I'm sure I am missing someone.. Swain perhaps? ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 30/12/2017 12:57:43 2066249 Link 0 |
I'm in my mid 30s maybe my generation is different, but if you play gaa from a young age and play for your club right through and the underage at Meath. Shouldn't the pinnacle to play for the seniors? Has that pride gone from some players? If some of them left because they don't see the point in training hard for no success isnt that the wrong attitude to have? Isn't there a bigger picture? Help young lads coming through etc? Lining out in the Meath jersey?Who knows success might come in the future too. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 30/12/2017 13:04:25 2066251 Link 1 |
