Truth is that in any one year only about 8 teams in the senior grade have any hope of success. The same applies to the county set ups where realistically only about 8 teams (or less) have any notions of potentially winning an all Ireland. We still want our county team to compete in it as it brings great excitement to the county and honour to the players. Reducing the number of teams to 16 in the senior club championship makes no difference to the situation. Last year Skyrne finished their championship with one point and would have been relegated if the proposal to reduce was in play for then. This year they are leading the league and have a chance of going all the way in the championship. I don't agree that it is a fact that players and supporters from Rathkenny Blackhall etc would prefer to be intermediate. They live in hope like the rest of us that perhaps this will be our year to progress.

"I have seen my players, collectively, once in the last 20 days" Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1338 - 20/04/2018 19:02:50 2094141 Link 14 |
When they play for Meath they are the management players. I don't think you can have a pop at the hurling manager for saying that. He views them as his players cause they will play for him at county level. I'd say it's stretching a argument to have a go at the him, hurling is very much in minority in county (I myself am not a fan) but they do their best royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 20/04/2018 19:39:41 2094146 Link 0 |
Point is this is club month and the players should be at home with their clubs who they belong to

If anyone has ever heard of "The Mandela Effect" the Meath SFC is a great example. It's amazing the number of times I've read of people remembering the football being great at club and county level when we played 4 groups of 4. It's a myth though. yes they must be favourites now but with that comes extra pressure buy they certainly are good enough. Ratoath are also one to watch and have built up experience . I think Mahoneys will do it this year as it will be last year for a lot of their players

April Club only month , this is not governed by any GAA rule , Its a suggestion from Croke Park and was a way of keeping the CPA and club players quite when the super 8s were announced. More Lip service from Croke Park and the clubs and CPA fell for it as usual.
