So the first Meath team to make their entrance into the Leinster championships are the NOM hurlers. The Meath Intermediate champions play the Longford senior champions in the Leinster Junior championship (if that makes sense) on Saturday in Edgeworthstown. I wouldn't be backing a run for Senior football champions. Jimmycricket (Meath) - Posts: 72 - 12/10/2017 12:37:45 2054844 Link 1 |
I think you mean the winners of Curragha and St. Michaels. Curragha beat oldcastle at the weekend.

Facepalm...... Of course yes I mean Curraha and Michael's (I was even at the Curraha - Oldcastle game). Apologies to Michael's. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 12/10/2017 13:21:54 2054854 Link 13 |
The Glen Emmett's are from Tullyallen and they are right on the Meath border so it will just add an extra spice to this Battle of the Boyne clash. Hopefully the Connells come through their clash to set up another Louth/Meath clash.

Typical bias against the north Meath clubs. They just all look the same to you!!

I have traveled to many of the leiy(football) games particularly last year. I had a great year watching cilles reach all ire final. I just hope whoever wins senior takes the mantle and pride of been Meath champions with them into game. Too often lately it's been a damp squib royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 12/10/2017 18:15:33 2054911 Link 0 |

Can't see it myself but most posters here are going for Gaeil Colmcille, get your money on lads as hill are favourites with bookies Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1338 - 13/10/2017 10:22:06 2054997 Link 12 |
I think Summerhill will win but Kells definitely don't deserve to be 13/5. Summerhill just about got over a bad NOM team and Kells had a great win over strong favorites Moynalvey. They mightn't have the best footballers in the county but won't lose because of lack of effort.

Moynalvey were strong favourites by a few people on this tread but that means little as Kells were the better side. Match could go either way but as is usually the case the better team will win. All the 'favourites' have been beaten by better teams -end off

Lads if simonstown or summerhill cant make it to leinster final i give up on club football in meath. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 856 - 17/10/2017 15:48:14 2055783 Link 0 |
Why is that? If the winner gets the better of the wexford champions they'll likely face St lomans who I think could win leinster this year they're very good

You have just handed in your notice then. The standard in Meath has been declining every year and that trend continues. No disrespect to any team but the championship has been getting easier to win every year with over the past years very average sides winning. Same can be ssid for Junior and Inter grades this year. Just an honest assessment

Yeah very disrespectful that to clubs from other "weaker" counties. There have been some really good club sides from unfashionable counties over the years. Baltinglass and Rathnew from Wicklow. Eire og and o'hanrahans from Carlow. Garrycastle from Westmeath, Rhode from Offaly. I don't know why people think Meath clubs have a god given right to be winning or even reaching Leinster finals. The standard of club teams in Meath is just not that great at the minute. It is very competitive, but there are no really top quality teams, that you would expect to go on and win a Leinster.

Can you elaborate on this post please Lurch? The Meath winners will be away to the Wexford champions which will, in itself, be very tough and provided Simonstown/Summerhill overcome that challenge they'll play either Mullinaghta or Tyrrellspass/St Loman's. Incidentally, St Loman's beat Simonstown quite comfortable in a challenge match a few weeks ago.

It's depressing but personally I think lomans mullanaghta will be salivating thinking about a possible meeting with a Meath club. I'm very aware of lomans and I would love anyone to beat them but been honest they are a far superior side to anything within Meath at minute. And westmeath club scene is very vibrant and tough to win, I nearly got shot last year when I said most of the top 4 teams in westmeath would win keegan cup, nothing will change unless a structure is put in place, it wouldn't magically make good teams but it will prepare them better for Leinster. Nothing would make me happier than for either simonstown or summerhill to reach fina in Leinster, I hope it happens and I will be first on here to say how proud l am. So come on lads let's do this. And no matter who wins let everyone in county get behind them in Leinster. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 17/10/2017 20:23:10 2055853 Link 0 |
The standard may not be great but to say that it is easy to win a senior championship is a foolish statement. Last years intermediated side nearly won the Al and were a pretty good side yet were not able to win a single match in the championship -can you explain that?
browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2189 - 17/10/2017 20:25:18 2055854 Link 13 |
lads,i seen lomans in action last Sunday in mullingar, they only got the better of a kinnegad team who were in a relegation battle last year in the last 10 minutes, simonstown had the beating of rhode in tullamore last year until o Rourke was put off.i stand by my comment,we are in the very easy side of the draw ffs,i expect either team to beat wexford champions and after what i seen last Sunday lomans are no world beaters. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 856 - 17/10/2017 20:51:24 2055862 Link 0 |
Can you remind me when the standard was good? When did the decline start?
