NOM actually had a very good Under 17 team this year. They drew with Ratoath in the league and beat Dunboyne. They then lost to Dunboyne in the semi. I saw them in the league and they looked decent - they played some nice football. So maybe not all bad there. Colmcilles also look decent at underage but no doubt the big population areas have an advantage

Very clear to be seen Ziggy. As shown by Pats Navan loss today. Clubs like Ratoath, Dunboyne, Ashbourne, Cilles now the success stories at underage in Meath. Navan clubs not up to it. I think Walterstown are doing well at under 14, 15 or so but could be wrong. Be interesting to see if this trend towards border towns translates to senior where the Navan clubs have won 4 in a row.

To be fair though, Simonstown have done great work,and Wolfe Tones are doing it now,along with Colmcilles,Dunboyne,Skyrne,Dunshaughlin and Curraha. Ashbourne should see the fruits of their labour in the coming years.
O Mahonys need a serious look at themselves.

I don't think Simonstown have won much underage in the last 15 years, 1 u21 football championship about 6 years ago, not too much else and yet they have won back to back Keegan cups.

Conor Nash was on the wearemeath podcast and he said they won a lot too underage

I think it will be unusual seeing the Minor being played at under 17 level next year . Does anyone know how it will work along with Under 16 also ?
What format will it take and how will the under 19 be run ?

I think in other counties the championships became 13's, 15's and 17's to replace 14's, 16's and 18's. Not sure if we'll do that. 19's was a bit of a disaster this year but next year it might be taken more seriously

Yes from what I remember the Under 19 didn't even finish . I think with the under 19 grade it could be difficult to manage for clubs unless you have big numbers as a lot of these players will be drafted into senior ,Intermediate & Junior teams and possibly might not play both and also I think the dual player will possibly have to pick which they would like to play( I hope not ) . You wlll also find intercounty players on under 20 teams might not participate . I think unless you have big numbers in Division 1 you will not be able to compete and may have to drop divisons . I hope a proper schedule can be worked out between Clubs in both hurling & football and County teams along with the schools & colleges . I do think though it is a great idea as it keeps players hopefully playing longer on aged teams and makes the gap to adult an easier transition .

Great replay in navan today. 2 excellent, teams teams going at it full belt. Tones deserved win against a very good summerhill side.

Some interesting selections here. Have to acknowledge that they are based on the finals rather than the games leading up to the final. Nonetheless surprised that not one Na Fianna player made the team - the Division 1 final was a cracker and they played a big part in that! Also - a couple of other Ratoath lads were very good - Barry and Butler in particular! But the biggest surprise to me is McGowan missing from mid field! Also - surprised that Saran O'Fionnagain didn't make it! Probably not at his best in teh replay but outstanding during teh competition. Although - maybe that is why John Keane got in! Did a good job on O'Fionnagain in the final!

yes would agree about young McGowan ftom Ratoath as definitely best midfielder in Div 1. Na Fianna players nearly all played below par in final and as this selection is final based only it is very hard to include any . I still think O Fionnagain played well enough to be included
