Some genius has come up with the idea that we should spent more time practicing basketball- maybe we should also practice 'sumo wrestling' as well-be able to close the out!!! browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2189 - 01/10/2017 21:10:08 2052206 Link 12 |

You better believe other counties read on here, especially Dubs. If I was a Meathman I would consider the OP treachery. Talk about waving the white flag. And what of the young lads you would put out there to be humiliated? Tut tut tut

Hey I totally agree with what you saying. This is something that has crept into "some" Meath people's mind. I for one do not agree, we have a good manager, we have a team who are for most part average, however they have the potential with not too much training to be good perhaps v good with a few additions, we won't win a all ire unfortunately, but I still see the mcenetee coming up with a plan to win a Leinster, however division one must be obtained first. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 02/10/2017 13:35:21 2052377 Link 0 |

Can you elaborate on this RoyalDunne. 'Meath have the potential to be very good with not too much training' - please explain and who are these additions you believe could help us win a Leinster?

I think we need a genuine 6 , who that is ? Is for a higher power to decide. I think the two Conlon's would be great addition. I also think many of this team were badly trained over a few years, (not mods fault) But when new s&c coach came in he said so. Anyway imo we have the structures in place at the top to deliver, no more moral victories, win at all costs, I wonder how many of our players would have that killer instinct to throw their gps at a player in injury time or throw away the kicking tee? Not condoning either but it shows a win at all costs mentality, and balls to put it another way, something Meath teams have been missing for awhile, mchugh said we had gone soft, I berated him for it . But in hindsight he was probably right. We need to get the steel of old back into our players and no one is better at that than the mcenetee brothers. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 02/10/2017 20:16:45 2052550 Link 0 |

What a depressing tread this is Meath fans actually believing we're better of forfeiting our next game against Dublin, I for one hope we play Dublin next year hopefully in a Leinster final with our first choice players on display, and we'll go out there with plenty of hunger in our bellies and full of confidence in our abilities, go in with this sort of attitude instead of a losers one and you might have some chance of challenging and beating this great Dublin team, Dublin arnt invincible mayo were within a kick of a ball of beating them this year, that's mayo a county with a much smaller population with greater logistical problems such as emigration and providing jobs for its county players, so remember to quate mark twain " it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." Your arguments are total bias and no way show any balance. Counties in leinster have continually wanted to keep matches against Dublin in Croke Park and have voted in favour of this. Why? Had Dublin any problem playing outside it in the last two years-no. Do they travel to away league games-yes. The hill is divided and tickets are available to all counties playing Dublin. They can be bought in ticketmaster or in centra or supervalu. All-ireland final was a 50%-50% split with Mayo. You highlighted incidents in the AIF by Dublin but failed to mention anything Mayo did. So rather than point them out, go watch the game again. Mayo also illustrated to all other counties including Meath that Dublin are not unbeatable so basically stop the anti-dublin stuff and look within your own county and establish a plan and structures that will put you on an upward curve. Believe you me as a person who coaches young kids, money and resources does not make a player better but going out and training etc. will. Great post. Couldn't agree more. Fed up of hearing we don't have the players or hearing that the dubs have more resources... If mayo can go close year on year then there's no reason we can go one step further. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 04/10/2017 17:06:43 2053080 Link 0 |
Please read my post again, i did actually highlight some unsporting behaviour by Mayo. One other point, Dublin play all meaningful games in croke park.......from leinster semi final onwards.

Time to stop blaming Dublin for meath not being competitive in Leinster since 2013, the problem for most teams facing Dublin is there own attitude, there beaten before the ball is even thrown in because it's easier to complain about "unfair advantages" then to work hard and put in the tough hits like mayo did, it's also worth pointing out that back in many of Meaths glory years we often played all our championship games in croke park, I doubt back then you taught that was unfair for counties like cork and mayo

I really think Meath should focus on how to win Div 2 of the league. Talk about tactics against the Dubs is ridiculous when we aren't even close to Kildare at the moment. Navan (Meath) - Posts: 6 - 05/10/2017 12:30:40 2053261 Link 4 |
I think this is a superb point (about the league). For me, look, There are certain advantages Dublin have its undeniable, Playing league games and almost all championship games in Croke park is an advantage to Dublin, but its not such a huge advantage as people on here and in the media make out, but of course it is an advantage.. To use this as some kind of blame deflector for Meath and other teams in Leinster not being competitive is just not, its not being realistic with yourself and its that type of defeatist, horrible attitude that sets teams like Meath back. Being beaten before the game began. The great Meath teams of the past would relish playing this Dublin team, The fans would always come down confident of beating us, and if we won, we would always know we have been in a hell of a battle,.. I digress. Anyway, the league. The league has become absolutely vital for Dublin and the other top teams. Traditionalists will say the league is not important, and in some aspects they are bang on, but in other ways the league absolutely is important and infact, id place a lot of Dublins success down to grueling league games in division one over the past few years. Why ? Cause for 12 weeks in Spring when all the hard work is being done, Every fortnight or so you are coming up against teams of a similar standard to yourself, and when you are in division 1, you are likely coming up against the top teams in the country, In some very difficult venues in some very difficult weather conditions at time. These games teach a manager and a squad of players so much about themselves and also the opposition they could come up against down the line. The league is absolutely pivitol in this respect. Its no coincidence that Dublins closest rivals in the past 3 years have been Mayo, A team with a smaller population than Meath, But they have a team that have been competitive in Division 1 longer than anyone else right now without being relegated. They are used to coming up against the top teams and they know how to compete. Winning Division 1 isn't important, Staying in it once you get there, is. If Meath can get back into division 1 in 2018 and then compete and stay up in 2019, Then they will I'm sure start competing in big games cause the experience they wil gain would be invaluable to them. The fact of the matter is, Teams at the top are physically and mentally prepared better than teams at the bottom. Its easy to be motivated and go training when youre playing against a Dublin or Kerry as oppose to a, Longford or Carlow. So when you are playing at a level with Carlow, Lonford, London etc for 3 months, how do you then prepare for a professional machine like, Mayo and Kerry and expect to compete ? You cant. So the aim is to strive to get to their level and only when you can compete can you then plan to beat them. For me, Meaths aim for 2018 should be to focus on the league. Gain promotion and go from there. Try build some momentum then going into the summer where depending on the draw you could look ahead to a leinster final and after that, who knows? but the strides you can make from making that jump from D2 to D1 cant be undervalued, Itd be massive. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13574 - 06/10/2017 12:42:30 2053544 Link 11 |
Excellent post wayno meath were close on a couple of occasions in the last few years of getting to division 1, it's been a top priority for a while now but we keep coming up short, hopefully we be there in 2019 as your right div 1 will bring this meath team on, but I haven't given up hope of competing next year in the championship remember Donegal got to an all Ireland final in 2014 coming from div 2,

Well looks like we will find out the tactics soon enough, no disrespect to Longford but we should reach a Leinster semi final. Bring it on. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 19/10/2017 21:21:50 2056363 Link 0 |
