(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

remember just championship..

a few contenders but in the end(for me) it boiled down to 2..

bryan menton
conor mcgill

gonna give the nod to the ratoath man. both consistent and both showed leadership throughout. conor gets it for me(Just) because he was top class against donegal.

I think McGill is a serious full back but defo wasnt player of the championship. Played well v donegal but recieved a silly Black card v louth and then was awful v Kildare. Great prospect for the future and no doubt a top player for years to come.

100% Menton for me

For me it was Mickey Burke. The only player who performed consistently.

Menton was destroyed against Kildare and wasn't much better against Donegal or Sligo. Everybody on here seems to have their blinkers on.

juicy (Meath) - I would agree with the blinker bit. I just wonder who RD will nominate! Picking one player will be difficult.

Maybe not the most skillful........like all the rest makes mistakes. For sheer heart and giving his best consistently...Mickey Burke.

They were not in the championship long enough to pick anyone.

Not in the championship long enough for me to pick but my player of the year would be Menton with burke very close behind.

My nominations would be , Burke, biggy (only had one bad game v Kildare) Menton , and McGill.
The winner ? Hands down, Mickey Burke.
By far the hardest working and driven player we had all year. Just shows that some times you can get better with age.

Agree with Barney 123. Definitely Menton for me with Micky Burke a close second.
McGill and Lenahan would be 3 and 4.

Regarding Biggy as a possible player of the year, in my opinion he had only 1 good game - Louth. I agree he really only had one bad game but you dont measure poty on not having bad games. It's based on you you perform versus others, the opposition and expectations based on past performances. So, as there was just one game in which he lived up to or surpassed expectations I would say he's not in the running this year.

Mine would be Menton, Burke and Biggy. Mickey Burke defo wins for me hands down, Menton a close 2nd with Biggy. All three have been super from start of league to end of championship. Biggy getting alot of criticism over his performance in the championship but doesnt alter the fact that he has played super when it mattered and scored when we needed it most and has shown great captaincy to the lads. Menton has been brilliant from start to finish and alot of younger players looking up to him. Mickey is just in a league of his own. Every county needs a Mickey Burke.

I'm no fan of Mickey Burke's footballing ability. I think the fact that he makes the team at all is a canary in the mine for the state of Meath Football. But I have to say.. he has been our best player this year by a country mile, he always gives everything to the cause and maximises the return on his ability. That is all you can ask for from a player. It was memorable the last day that he was the one leading the charge in the last minute in search of the equaliser, as a corner back.. It didn't work out but thats not his fault..

Im normally not a huge fan of him myself as he is very awkward looking at times and bulls about the place. But since he gave up the hurling to play football he seems to have improved vastly. He has been very consistent over the last few games which can not be said for majority of our players

Scored when needed the most ?? Did you not see the Kildare and Donegal games he was dreadful ! Outstanding against a terrible Louth team and decent v Sligo !! Not even in the top 6 for player of the championship
