go along with that this year anyway. wouldn't rule any of them out of winning it either.

Just wondering are we sure that Skryne are not two games away from intermediate football for the first time. As I said, this will be bigger news than whoever wins the championship. Ibbecek (Meath) - Posts: 196 - 30/08/2017 23:34:40 2040943 Link 0 |

I think most people would have seen Na Fianna and Skryne as strong contenders before the start of the season. Who would you classify as "big teams"? You seem reluctant to give your definition.

I don't believe too many would seriously have had either of those in the mix for this year. Before a ball was played this year i would have had Dunboyne to win it with Moynalvey as dark horses, bookies had O Mahoneys as favourites. If you look back i said at the time they should be 12/1 instead of 3/1. Simonstown for me are the surprise. Didn't expect t them to be there this year, further proof perhaps of where Meath football is at

I broadly agree, I didn't think Skryne or Na Fianna would win it out although I didn't expect them to be in the lowly position there are now either, not shocked at Simonstown though as they have a good squad and I always felt if they got one they would get two or three championships, getting the monkey off the back can be a great catalyst for success. I wouldn't have expected NOM to be in the running this year either, didn't see anything to back those odds up. Simonstown still favourites for me although naturally I hope Ratoath can do it but if they don't this year I would be of the opinion they will win it in the next couple of years, the talent is there and the experience of senior football is building up, there is a changing scene in Meath football with some of the expected standard bearers seemingly falling by the wayside, Dunboyne could certainly be in with a shout this year too and whilst I haven't seen Summerhill they seem to be motoring along nicely also, certainly a few interesting clashes ahead in the last round of fixtures.

I'm not sure what your opinion of Simonstown at the start year and how they actually competed has anything to do with the standard of the Meath club football They bet your "dark horses" by 12 points in the championship Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 473 - 31/08/2017 12:12:30 2041104 Link 0 |
Thats why i had the word " surprise " in there. The point on mesth football is that far superior Simonstown teams could win a senior and it seems like there is a good chance this side could win 2 on the trot

What simonstown teams or in fact any keegan cup winning teams were superior than this one?? The standard of club football is certainly better than that of a few years ago

Simonstown sides that lost 2 finals were in my opinion superior. Players like the Meades, Kelly, Traynor, Kearney, Mc Grath, Lunny, O Neill, Brady, mc Carthy, need i go on

Fair enough that was a quality side but as you say they lost 2 finals, throwing a 9 point lead away in one of them it's not like they were a million miles away from winning a championship and an average one then comes along and wins one a few years later reflecting a poor standard. This team has better players in my opinion and teams like dunboyne, ratoath, summerhill, the tones, Kells and moynalvey should make the next few years a good competitive championship.

Don/Ash hockeying Duleek was always going to happen. Summerhill putting in a performance when they had already won the group was never going to happen. They must be kicking themselves over their game with Tones. If I remember correctly, they were cruising by 4 or 5 points with 10 minutes left and instead of pushing on, they decided to play keep ball. Ratoath v Dunboyne is a big deal loser with play Simonstown so it is a game worth winning

With our injury situation and Dunboyne's gradual improvement throughout the campaign I can't see us winning tomorrow. Weather looks pretty horrendous tomorrow as well which could ruin the game as a spectacle.

The Wolfe tones looked very impressive against summer hill . The will take beating now . condae99 (Meath) - Posts: 34 - 10/09/2017 15:28:03 2044631 Link 0 |
So Skryne are in danger of ending their 80 year uninterrupted stay in Senior. I know that it was an awful day for football but not scoring in the second half is atrocious. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 10/09/2017 19:04:35 2044673 Link 12 |
I don't think Dunshaughlin goalie even touched ball in second half . Regardless of conditions it was a total collapse

It's one thing mentioning injuries and weather before games as excuses but discussing it after winning is desperate, I was going to post this before but I actually expected Ratoath to win this, it was a meaningless game with not much to gain for either side, bar maybe confidence for Ratoath. Lenihan and Jones are far better than anything on this magical injury list, and I wouldn't be worrying about Dunboyne, I'd agree on Dunboyne being poor today but that's hardly a shock, it changes nothing.
