Will O'Coilean be able to play against Summerhill? Was it a straight red or two yellows? Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 24/09/2017 11:07:15 2049832 Link 12 |
Wow! That's championship football what a win for simonstown unbelievable character! Hard luck to dunboyne that's two years in a row these two have been involved in a game far above anything else in the championship serious game of football! Fantastic comeback by Simonstown this afternoon. Great to see Conor Nash back in action. It looked an impossible task at half time. Well done all. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 24/09/2017 17:49:17 2049938 Link 0 |
Simonstown deserved winners, Dunboyne didn't take their chance. Simonstown putting Crouchy full forward caused havok. Simonstown are really a bad matchup for Dunboyne because of their height LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 833 - 24/09/2017 18:21:14 2049952 Link 12 |
Very disappointing result for Ratoath on Friday night. Could have went either way but tones showed great courage and composure. They played to their strengths. From flag fall tones dominated the middle of the field and seemed to hover up a huge amount of breaking ball. For the life of me I could not understand Ratoath's kickouts. No variation with the ball continually hit out to middle. Is getting to the quarter final a success for this group? They will need to learn fast or winning the Keegan cup may never come through. Bit more bite and a little bit more directness to the inside forward.line is a must. Adamski (Dublin) - Posts: 339 - 24/09/2017 18:32:13 2049956 Link 0 |
It seems like they are a bad match up for most teams

I was at the navan na Fianna and dunboyne Simonstown games, I thought the best players in both games were Stephen bray and Shane O'Rourke, both were absolutely outstanding, I know both are semi retired from inter county but surely they have to be considered redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 306 - 25/09/2017 01:57:04 2050137 Link 0 |
Ratoath did not seem to be well drilled at all. How they persisted with the kick out is beyond me and really impacted the game. Once it came down to a slug fest there would only be one winner. Ominously for Meath only Mc Gill and Joey Wallace turned up. Ratoath need a strong mgm team to get the best out of these players and they will get over the line. Tones were a joy to watch, tore into everything and have some very good lads. Glynn at full back was excellent as to both O Reillys.

Any chance of McKeever making himself available for the county team next year? Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 25/09/2017 08:41:30 2050155 Link 12 |
Speaking of North Meath man , what's going on in Meath football Meath_True (Meath) - Posts: 285 - 25/09/2017 09:37:58 2050183 Link 0 |
Again, with all due respect, a lot of our best players are still in their early to mid 20s (Wallaces, McGill, McMahon etc.) meaning, in theory, they've still got a few years before they reach their peak. With more good younger players coming through, the team as a whole will get better. It's their second season in senior and they lost after extra time to a team with over 10 years of senior experience. Completely agree with the kickouts. Our midfield has been a problem but without Cian O'Brien it's just made it all the more evident. I can actually see some players not making themselves available to the Meath team in the near future. They've played a lot of football/hurling over the last number of years. I think one reason why Joey Wallace looked so impressive on Friday was because he's played relatively little football over the last year or so. I'm a fan of mcentee but i think after looking at all the games over the weekend and seeing who's left in the championship....its fair to question his selection policy.......5 teams left and I can only think of 4 county panellists left involved......and none of them guaranteed starters for meath ROC from navan... Tobin and conlon from simonstown amd O'Reilly from tones. I think alot more simonstown and summerhill lads need to be brought in....they are the standout teams left imo. Kells in third semi in a row now....surely 1 or 2 should be looked at. southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 709 - 25/09/2017 12:34:59 2050275 Link 14 |
Agree fully about the lose of Cian but would should have planned for his absence and it was clear to see after 10 mins that we couldn't compete in the middle of the field. That's why not trying to adapt was hugely disappointing. Even allowing for the changes made we still played second fiddle in this area. I firmly believe that we should have put Conor McGill out there as his presence, size and pure ability would have been a serious improvement. Daragh McGill could have went in full back and possibly Boyler should have been in earlier. We were so predictable from our own kick outs it was startling. The argument about how much ball these guys have played is sort of irrelevant as some of the Tones lads are on the go 12 years in senior football, some have played for the county but they still showed a huge desire to win the game. I am not saying Friday night is a huge disaster but lessons must be learnt and then we should be in the mix over the next few years. There is no outstanding team in the senior and now is the time to push on or otherwise we could become like Donaghmore/Ashbourne and maybe leave it behind us.

Clutching at straws there if you try to claim Simonstown as a north meath team. Convenient that you draw the arbitrary line at the round o. By that definition, seneschalstown, slane and st Mary's are all north meath clubs. The whole concept of north meath clubs is ridiculous anyhow. Oldcastle would be considered north meath as would drumconrath. Yet oldcastle is almost as close to Trim (a "south meath" team)as it is to drunconrath. So to suggest that there is some link between oldcastle and drumconrath is just nonsense. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 25/09/2017 13:50:06 2050314 Link 12 |
Interesting that none of the 'border' teams are left in it! Two tough losses for Ratoath and Dunboyne. Ratoath seemed to be lacking a plan B - going down the middle with the kick outs for the whole night was just playing into Tones hands. Others have commented on this already - I feel they lacked a little bit of leadership on the pitch! Tones played to their strengths and stopped Ratoath from playing to theirs. Certainly a sign of an experienced outfit! Dunboyne looked to have the gme wrapped up - 11 points ahead with 30 minutes to go - I thought they would have closed it from that position! The introduction of Nash (is he around for the remaindr?) and Seamus Kenny was certainly a big part in this but I still felt Dunboyne would close it out! To concede 4 goals in just over 20 minutes is a remarkable collapse! It will be interesting to see how it plays out from here! I fancy Cilles to do it but it won't be easy! If Nash is available for S'town then they are a different proposition. Royalblufill (Meath) - Posts: 284 - 25/09/2017 14:13:00 2050325 Link 0 |
St. Colmcille's would be North Meath going by that poster's logic. Agreed, who the hell cares about whereabouts a club is located. They're all Meath teams. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1198 - 25/09/2017 14:26:25 2050333 Link 14 |
AFb We're not talking distance we're talking geographically . Oldcastle is in the north of the county as is Carnaross , Moylagh Navan is in the centre of the County , so that's the reference , our boundaries weren't drawn by Americans or other with a ruler , Dunshaughlin is in the south of the County as is Dunboyne , Ratoath etc. I don't see why you brought distance into it . its only a statement to initiate a conversation on the possible resting place of the 2017 silverware . I was talking to a Ratoath supporter recently and he gave me the impression that they only had to make an effort to win the Keegan Cup ..... Dismissing the Tones , O Mahoney's and and Dunboyne, and Simonstown totally . Need I say more . I'd say that he is smarting right now . They seem to have done fairly well without him barely losing a game all year, they actually should have topped the league only for forfitting the points against na fianna over the county players situation. Nash would improve any team but they are in the semi final of league and championship so they're hardly struggling without him.
