Involved in the farming sector all his life, Michael had a huge interest in GAA affairs and in particular the Meath team. He spent many an hour analysing and dissecting the games in great detail. Michael was proud of his sons Bill and Michael junior's achievement on the field of play. Both played for Simonstown and Michael won Junior and Intermediate football medals with the Navan club.
