Great sadness and shock overcame the parish of Dunderry with the tragic announcement of the death of Lorna Carty, while in holiday in Tunisia. Lorna was a much valued member of our club, having been associated with the GAA from her youth. Lorna was a member of the popular Harlin family from Kilmessan.
When she married Declan and moved to Dunderry she became very much involved in our club and in the local community. Lorna was a nurse and used her valuable knowledge to great use on the playing fields as a first aid person with our many teams.
Lorna was a very dedicated person whose lovable nature always shone through. With this personality she was always there to help anyone in need. Lorna not only gave her services on the field but also provided great assistance to the club in fundraising with her beloved husband Declan, our treasurer.
Lorna was also a very dedicated family person, and mother of Simon and Hazel. One of her proudest moments was to see her son Simon wear the Meath county jersey. Lorna was a great Gael and along with her family Declan, Simon and Hazel never missed supporting her club and her county.
She was involved in many organisations in the parish, the latest one of which she was very proud, Dunderry Ladies Circle.
On behalf of the family and the club, we would like to thank the Meath team under Mick O'Dowd and all the clubs, all the local community and people who travelled from long distances to attend the burial of Lorna in Retaine Cemetery. We would also like to thank all of those who sent messages of sympathy to the club. Maybe in some small way it will help Declan, Simon and Hazel and extended family in their grief.
