I hope for yer sake Meath live up to your high expectations. Its a long time since I thought of Meath as a top team and I will be disappointed if Cavan don't win on Saturday. That said the bookies have it as evens for both teams probably due to many of our Big Players not having a lot of game time under their belts yet - Mackey, Mckiernan etc.
You only deserve to be in Div 1 if you earn it. What you did 20 years ago is irrelevant. We deserved to be there last year and we deserved to get relegated too. Div 2 is the level for both teams until the prove otherwise.

It ridiculous to believe Cavan Gaels would be Cavan. We are a Div 1 team. Cavan Gaels cant even beat most clubs in Ulster. Get real and stop ridiculous conversations like that.

Replying To Inaroundehouse: "Hopefully our present manager Mattie in his 2nd year will have greater success against Donegal than the previous manager had over his 5 years.
In saying that I hope Mattie has greater success against any county than the previous manager had .. ie Monaghan, Roscommon Tyrone come to mind .
Did the previous Manager ever manage to defeat any of these in an important competitive match
Maybe our stats man Fredflint could post our success rate? Seeing he so fond of the stats." I said Donegal had very strong home record. You said they had a poor one. I proved you wrong and now you are deflecting to cavan record. No one was talking about cavans record. You really are showing your self up as being exceptionally childish. A sensible person would just admit they got it wrong about Donegals home record.

Replying To cavanblueman: "What a fantastic win for the lads and off course the manager. To go to Cork, and in particular, the spectacular Park Ui Chaoimh and come away with a win is fantastic. Even more satisfying is to see the like of Fredflint and the previous managers bandwagon reeling in their feathers, they had Mattie written off after his first year.
We now have an identity, we have a game plan, and thankfully, its not just purely defensive. We defend well as a unit, but whats more impressive is the speed at which we break, and in some cases, the ease at which we can take our scores.
Three tough teams to play, but we will go into them with confidence. I'm not concerned about promotion and I think another year in Division 2 would do no harm, having said that, it would be nice to win a National League Division 2 title, and I've no doubt, if we got promotion to Division 1, we would be better equipped this time around. I think we will also give Donegal a good rattle in the Championship." Yes, I admit I was skeptical about Mattie and glad to be proven wrong. But that is the difference between you and I sir. I want whats best for Cavan. The attacks on the previous manager were a vendetta driven by the treatment of one player and nothing to do with what was best for Cavan. I have always said I wanted Mattie to succeed and I am delighted to see that he appears to be well on the way to do this. The last 2 wins in particular were excellent and fair play to him and the team

Replying To pauk123: "JonSmith we all see Meath all the time. When we click we have a very good side. When we are firing on all cylinders it typically lasts for 20 minutes, if/when the tide starts to turn we have literally no one to steady the ship.
If we were to put together 40/50 minutes of performing at our best we'd beat Cavan and every other team in D2 out the gate.
I don't see Cavan all that much but you may well be able to say the same yourself. As for Meath we are consistently inconsistent, even during games. That's the most frustrating thing about this Meath team. You can point to evidence that we are a good side on the way up and also we are awful. You'd be right in both cases!" Really? Sure if Cavan "clicked" for 50 mins they would also beat everyone out the gate too. Truth is Meath are not as good as cavan and haven't been for a good few years. If that beating didn't show you that then you must have your eyes closed.

Sean - how many national league games have been postponed in the last 10 years in breffni? Not too many I'd say. There is a serious amount of whinging on the Meath forum (you'd swear their kip was as better)
The weather has been exceptionally bad in cavan lately. There's nothing that can be done so people need to wise up.

Replying To Awwwwnow: "Some CB members are in paid positions and don't be voted in. That needs to change. How do you think TC and VA were elected as managers? Clubs? Your having a laugh!" Why don't you make yourself useful and list a pile of potential managers that have no interest in the job while you wait to hear who really gets it. Then you can start another vendetta against the new guy with your buddies.

What about the injuries to Givney , F Flanagan, Keating , M Reilly etc?
Take the blinkers off?
Are Dublin's injuries down to SC as well ?
Or Kerrys or Mayos or Donegal's? Wise up"]I don't remember a player being left on the field before for 5-10 mins with a torn hamstring in the past. Yes there are injuries in other counties but we seem to be having a very large amount in the last 2 years just before the championship, more than other teams and these are not old player with piles of miles on the clock. But heh, if you want to ignore this and bury your head in the sand work away.

Replying To cavan97: "hi Fred, just reading all comments and personally I don't think he is missing the point. I for one fully supported Hyland for the majority of his tenure. However Hyland took over a team on the verge of Division 4, Mattie took over a newly promoted team in Division 1. That being said the panel that Mattie took over was very settled with little changes over the previous 2/3 years. However there was only one way Mattie could go and that was down from Division 1. We were inexperienced at that level and with a new manager it was always going to be an uphill struggle. In Contrast Hyland settled the ship in Division 3 and slowly brought us up the leagues and used the McKenna Cup to rotate a close knit panel. Tyrone have taken the McKenna Cup very seriously in the last 8 years or so whereas Mattie is using the competition completely different to try out players like lots of other counties do. You cant really take anything from last night. But to be unbiased you have to look at where Terry started with Cavan. Don't get me wrong, the jury is out on Mattie and the next 3 months is going to decide his fate. Cavan should be at worst a competitive Division 2 side." If I have to spell it out. Hyland was in a McKenna cup final and lost to a very strong Tyrone team by 6. Famously not scoring in the 2nd half. There was a line of posters on here (currently very quiet) who wanted him gone because of that. Fast Forward 2 yrs an even worse result against the same team - where are these posters now, is mattie not held to their idiotic standards?
My opinion - you dont fire a manager because of a mckenna cup game, not then and not now. My point is, there are many posters on here who dont care about cavan football and are working to agendas. Thats all.
As for Mattie. I am not calling for him to be removed but I am saying that what I am seeing and hearing tells me this guy is threading water. I genuinely hope he proves me wrong and we have a good league and championship but if you asked me to put money on it I would say not on current showing.

Replying To cavanblueman: "The Gaels and Terry Hyland are football, the difference being, one is a very successful club team, the other left Cavan Football in a mess." Such rubbish. A mess is where we are now. A mess is not getting into Div 1. As for the gaels,
They are the best team in a county with very poor standard of club football.

Replying To goonie: "The team we had out in the first half wouldn't have beat Leitrim , We can't get carried away with that win , the results today went against us , I was expecting the Rossi and Kildare to win , the result makes it ever more important for us to get a result against Laois , The second half should have got the cob webs off the team selection for next week , we have a midfield with James smith and Thomas Galligan , hopefully G.mc Kiernan can find his form again and if Mc Loughlin and N Murray is fit it will strengthen it more. Let's not get carried away with Laois there not that good Cavan should eat them up" Lets not get carried away with one win, We will eat up Laois (who are top of the table) yet we wouldn't beat Leitrim who currently sit bottom of Div 3. Well thats clear as mud.

Armagh have set their stall out saying their target is the last 8 can we hope that Cavan will make the last 8. Remember Cavan are division 1 team so their target has to be the last 8 considering Armagh's ambition??? Looking at the
McKenna Cup tonight I have to say these two teams will not be easy beat in any competition. Thankfully Cavan have only to play Tyrone in the League." I thought the McKenna cup was a waste of time?? Now you are telling us Armagh won't be easy beaten based on you seeing one McKenna cup game on tv. Give over Sean.

Replying To bobkarlgees: "I see there 6 changes from the team that played Clare to team that played Louth. Did some Cavan players return ?" Yes. We had a few players that were injured just getting back towards match fitness. Cian Mackey played a full half and Gearoid McKiernan came on with 15 mins left. Two key players.
Conor Moynagh, last years ctr back, again coming back from injury started against Louth - came on as a sub against Clare.
Niall Murray regular last year had a prolonged run with Cavan Gaels in the Ulster club, Gaels lads only went back in training few weeks ago. He didnt feature at all against Clare but started against Louth. Stephen Murray and Sean Johnston also from Gaels returned to the bench.
Martin Reilly was away getting married and doing the honeymoon so missed McKenna cup and 1st league game, started against Louth.
We changed Goalies with Farrelly coming in for Galligan. Galligan is most likely to start against Meath though.
Adrian Cole started against Louth having missed Clare. He is new to the panel but is one of the best forwards in club football.
I wouldnt read to much into the Clare game, there was a lot of negative talk in the county about the falling away of a few players but with a lot of key lads coming back and a bit of momentum I expect Cavan to win this game. Mackey likely to start and Gearoid probably will get a half.

Replying To theham: "No sign of the cork man and his negative posts after the win yesterday." There is a few on here have nothing to say when there is a good performance and fill up pages with negative stuff when we lose. You'd have to wonder about the mentality of such people. Yesterday was a very good performance and plenty to improve on. Killian was massive at midfield, moynagh was excellent, mcvitty pulled the strings, Niall Murray had a super game and Madden got two brilliant goals. At least we know we belong in Div 1 when we can give a drubbing to a decent team like Roscommon (Super 8 team from last yr). Brilliant to see Gerry Smith back on the field - really looking forward t o seeing him get up to speed.
Now lets take the bit of momentum up to Omagh next week and see what we can do.
