So be it.
Horseman pass by........" Was hardly what we wanted, don't be so sensitive. You cannot lay a hand on an official. 12 week ban is the rules. He had to get banned, otherwise we may as well throw out the rulebook. Officials have to be protected or this would have opened a can of worms

Scrap The Pre Season Competitions - 5 Like(s)
Replying To wex: "It's time to scrap the pre season competitions. They generate hardly any interest among supporters and counties don't take it seriously with some not even entering teams." They are literally warm up competitions. Basically challenges to try out different players. They are really not meant to generate interest other than if you're a hardcore supporter. What's wrong with that?

Cavan Hurling - 5 Like(s)
It might pass most people by, but some news is that the Cavan Senior hurlers beat Fermanagh today by 4-17 to 0-17, an emphatic win in any mans language. It is their first win since the team reformed this year, and their first win since 2010. We should take a moment to appreciate where this team has come from. Castigated from all sides, the panel was done away with after an (admittedly) poor 2011 season - although I would point to this being an anamoly, the 2010 season was decent with the team competitive with 2 wins out of 5 and close losses in the other 3 games (but nobody ever looks at that when discussing where Cavan hurling went wrong all those years ago, they all fixated on 2011).
They had no league campaign this year so entered the Lory Meagher kinda cold, but they kept at it, trained hard and had good numbers at training all year. They were unlucky to lose to Lancashire last week after leading going into injury time at the end of the game, but made up for it with a great win today. There are some great young hurlers coming up through underage development squads, and hopefully the senior team will be here to stay so they have something to aim for. Weaker counties in both codes are rarely bigged up and are constantly put down, but lets give these lads the praise they deserve. There is an appetite for hurling in Cavan despite what the naysayers constantly say. Well done lads

Pairc Ui Chaoimh And That Twenty Five Million Overspend - 4 Like(s)
Replying To galwayford: "I don't condone the overspend But every stadium in the World is overspent seemingly." Agreed, but at least stadia like those are worth it. The cost of PUC and it looks like it's from the 80s. Haven't full all covered seated stadia been built in England for example for far less? It's a joke how much has been spent on that and it doesn't even look half decent

Replying To Adamski: "DC's actions can't be condoned. He was wrong to do what he did and he should serve the ban for the indiscretion. However I do have some sympathy for him because it was trial by media. Sky Sports went to town on it and then we had Spillane on the Sunday Game and let's be honest his only concerns is that Kerry retain Sam. I really would have loved to see a debate on the innocent drug taking of his fellow county man being debated on the Sunday Game and I can guarantee you he would play the same card as Thomas O' Shea with Paul Kimmage. " Ah is a lovely lad" bla bla bla. Kerry will play every trick possible to bring an end to Dublin dominance and they have a plethora of ex-players in the media spouting of at every opportunity. Eamon Fitzmaurice done everything he could do before this year's league final to drag up isolated incidences over the last number of years by Dublin players against Kerry, of course no balance in any of his arguments. Of course again Kerry never do anything over zealous in big games. League match in tralee seen them at their best. Time for the Sunday game to change it's format and get rid of some of the older ex-players and bring in some fresh blood." You see, I don't agree with this. The section of the Sunday Game that dealt with this went out maybe 27 hours after the incident. It was discussed everywhere, here included in between the incident and the SG. It seems convenient to always say that the SG are quick to condone, and blame them for bigging things up. Did you expect them not to talk about it? From my recollection, they discussed the incident, looked at what the rule states and gave a point of view about it. Just so happened to be Spillane who was there (gotta say, I was disappointed Whelan wasn't there - was looking forward to see what he would have said) Can't understand this hate for what they've said.

Replying To Shelbourne1: "Roscommon have much better players than Cavan & beat them every time. This time should be no different." Wouldn't say they're much better. Pretty similar squads talent wise, Cavan have thrown away multiple winning positions over the years against them. Just need to rid themselves of this hoodoo. Both teams trajectories over the years are very similar, Roscommon are not much better...

Shout out to Mullahoran, Cavan for their win over Banagher, Derry in the Ulster Intermediate semi final on Saturday night. Mental game all round. With the new 'finishing games on the day' rules, the game went to extra time, then extra-extra time, before the game being decided with a free kick competition, the first time this has even happened in football. There a video of the contest here. Bit of a mean way to finish the match off, but there's no doubt that it was one of the most surreal games I've ever seen. Even the neutrals there and the supporters for the teams involved in the next match were saying they had never seen a game like it. Mullahoran should have won it in normal time, only for Banagher to equalise late on. then Banagher should have won in extra time, only for a last gasp point in injury time of extra time for Mullahoran. Then the tables turned again and Mullahoran should have won in extra-extra time only for Banagher to equalise with injury time up. Crazy stuff. It was hard on the poor Banagher fella that missed his kick in the competition, but congrats all the same to Mullahoran.

CCCC Uphold Hughes' Eight-Week Ban!! - 3 Like(s)
Replying To Farney: "Darren Hughes has been banned for eight weeks.. and if I was his Manager I would tell him that if the same situation arose then he should do the exact same as he did.. He stood on the sideline and watched 3 feet in front of him a Monaghan player and a Fermanagh player wrestle on the ground and he did nothing but watch. But when a Second Fermanagh player came flying in and went straight into the Monaghan players back, he stepped in and pulled the players apart.. he protected his team mate and did not shoulder charge a player as a Manager recently did.. did not stick his hand into another players mouth or stand on his neck, did not stop play by grabbing a ball, did not face up to another player, did not push a referee or knock a notebook from a ref's hand, did not dive to the ground after getting his hair tousled. He protected a player from a cowardly act. Darren Hughes did the right thing as he often does." Those are some tinted glasses you're wearing... Ah but sure Hughes was just a matronly teacher, looking over his pupils in the schoolyard, carefully breaking up a fight with a delicate touch. Didn't so much as lay a strong hand on any of them as he guided them all apart in his quest to stop a fight. I was at the game too lad, he launched in. And for all the manliness you hear about nowadays in the game, did you think any of his lads were in serious trouble that he was needed so badly? They can handle themselves just fine. Everyone knows based on incidents over the last few years that if an official enters the field and lays a finger, you've got 8 weeks. That's non negotiable, it's standard at this stage. Same as 12 weeks for interfering with an official is standard. He needs to man up now and accept that. Same way he was man enough to launch himself into the field of play where it wasn't his business.
And another thing. This thing needs to stop of comparing incidents when all are completely different with differing ban lengths. Are we going to consistently hear about bans and drag Connolly, McCann and Fitzgerald into the conversation? Every single one of those incidents you refer to are completely different for varying reasons and have ban lengths set out in the rules. Please stop and take the medicine.

National League 2020 - 3 Like(s)
Replying To theweanling: "well done to the lads, that's two really impressive wins on the bounce considering where this squad is coming from. like everyone else on here I was worried about the league and more so by the attitude when you see so many lads walking away for various reasons. but the point was made that whos there is there and they would be better just getting on with it, which it appears they certainly have!! I know its only two wins but some lads thrown in at the deep end seem to be going really well and taking big roles upon themselves, I feel that they are safe now and they will pick up a few more points here and there, three weeks ago people would laugh but looking at that league table it's hard not to think that maybe Cavan could be in the promotion hunt again!!! I know the lads would love to meet Armagh again!! also I must add that the lads look in super shape. keep it going and I'm looking forward to brewster which has been a very happy hunting ground for us over the years." That Armagh league game was an outlier. They were coming after us after Ulster last year. They beat us well in the McKenna Cup, then again in the league with a very strong team that had a lot of starters from the Ulster semi. Our two games had a lot of new young lads first of all, and then the more established fellas in the league who were playing for the first time this year. We're up and going now and the lads are looking fit, in form, and going well. Not saying we'd beat Armagh, but if we played them next week, it'd be a lot closer than the first game would suggest...

Genuine question, and I hear and see loads doing it, why do you call him McAveety? It's McVeety, there's no A in his surname...

royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 13984 - 1/8/19 2:58:46 PMThat can still happen with friendlies that would be played instead of an organised competition" You know rightly that won't happen with friendlies. You'll never raise money at these. This competition is already a friendly one, really, why not keep it as is. Not understanding why this needs to change away from what it is. It fits its purpose.

Replying To CastleBravo: "While it's good to have them back in the fold, I wouldn't really be shouting from the rooftops about it. They beat a county with one hurling club in a dead rubber, and according to the match report they had three players from an All Ireland winning Dublin club score about 2-11 from play for them.
A good result alright, but nothing earth shaking." Dude, it's their first win in 7 years. Never said it was earth shaking, baby steps and all that. It's something that they can now work on and improve on for next year It is a big deal for the hurling community in Cavan and shows that we can compete.

Replying To clondalkindub: "There was no push or shove it's a shocking decision." Yes there was lad. What's your deal? You've a serious bee in your bonnet about this. It was soft but Wylie had his hand on his back and nudged him. BBC had a replay where you can see it plain as day. It's harsh as I've said, but he did it. He knows the consequences when he did it, as every child in the country being coached knows - hand on the back you'll give away a foul... Let it go will you

Replying To daytona11: "Yeh fair enough.
Galligan has been good but so have Comerford and Cluxton. Neck and neck at the moment.
I'd imagine if it's a Dublin - Mayo final that Cluxton will get it, especially if they win the AI. But All-Stars based on the Championship to date, it's close." No harm, but what's your deal with Cluxton? He is unreal, but he is nowhere close this year. It is clearly not neck and neck. Galligan has has 4 game, 2 against Div 1 teams, multiple match winning saves, match winning extra time free, kick out strategy. By multiple measures, Galligan is far and away the best keeper so far. It's not even close to any observer

Kerry v Mayo - 2 Like(s)
Thoroughly deserved win for Mayo. Should have won last week, were more than good enough today. Kick outs won, all round play, they were just so much better than Kerry in nearly every department, Boyle was electric today, showing it was idiotic to sub him last week. Kerry were a joke, their defensive sweeper system and all round play was very poor. It was puke football at times. Apart from Geaney they would have been so far behind. They have finally been shown up to be a dirty cynical team. They've got away with so much over the years. Gough may have looked hard on them, but that's because they never stopped fouling off the ball and then on the ball carrier. Can't blame the ref for not letting the game flow if they are fouling all the time. I'd rather have a fair game that a free flowing one and letting things go. And if you balance out the cards, 8 yellow, 2 red and 1 black for Kerry against 6 yellow, 1 red and 1 black for Mayo. Not that much difference card wise. But I suppose if you've got away with so much over the years, then it will look harsh if you're reffed properly.
Only decision that I could say would be harsh is O'Sullivans black card, but can't seem to find a view of it even after rewinding back to it.

O'Callaghan Dublin
Sweeney Tipp
See above. Dubs 10 in a row deserves to be honoured. They net a decent Laois and Meath team on there way. A division 1 team at that in Meath. Laois and Meath would cause any Division 1 teams apart from the dubs serious problems on their day.
Tipp, taking away the romance haven't really bet a team at a significant level at the moment. The Cork result was no shock being honest. That's the reason why I have given them 2.
Cluxton made a tremendous save versus Meath and kick-outs were excellent again.
Cavan deserve their two and possibly unlucky not to have 1 more in the keeper." Why did you pick Cluxton do you mind me asking? Has he had as much to do as Galligan in Cavan for example? He's an unreal keeper, but there's a reason he only has 5 considering his career and titles won. He simply doesn't have to do the work of others. His highlights reel this year is very light

Ulster Final Donegal V Cavan - 2 Like(s)
Replying To Tirchonaill1: "I can hear the whining coming out of Cavan from a 100 miles away, whining about referees, Michael Murphy, venues. fellas getting a wee bump on the head, whine whine whine, a man is born to do one ting and wee Mickey Graham was born to whine, thank God he'll be whining in div 3 next season where no one will hear him." Bitter much? No whining out of Cavan. Happy with the venue for the semi (although ye whined about the final venue) and all Graham and a few players did was answer a question when asked. Official Cavan statement shows all are fine with the venue. An opinion in an interview is hardly whining. However if you think that the ref wasn't worth a moan about, then I don't know what to say. He was poor. And a hit causing a blood sub and requiring stitching up on the sideline is hardly a bump...
