Beat that! 2 goals in 10 seconds for UCC v St. Marys in yesterday's Sigerson semi final. Wasn't enough though as St. Marys advanced to take on the holders UCD in today's final in Bekan." So what's the purpose of this thread?

GAA stars - should they be lauded or castigated - 3 Like(s)
Players turned pundits telling us how the game should be played sells newspapers and creates controversy .
What Brolly thinks of Cooper or any other player won't effect what we as viewers think.
We can make up our own minds in conjunction with what we have seen over the course of a players career.
Brollys opinion will hardly change that.
What I find very tereputic while watching a live game is to turn the sound on the TV down until throw in.
Then at half time turn it down again for 15 minutes and go and make a nice cup of tea..
There are lots of pundits on tv I didn't respect as a player so I dam sure I'm not going to listen to them now they making a few bob out of it..

Replying To blueman1903: "Fair play Sean, I think everyone should support this to try and help this young man, god help this man and his family." Maybe gate receipts from inter county replays could be put into a fund to help players in situations like this. After all replay money is bonus money for the gaa.

Cavan V Derry - 3 Like(s)
Our best football in the league was played when FF was injured yet he was restored when fit proves there's favouritism . You cannot change your whole full back line especially your full back after 7 league games. It doesn't work. I knew we were going nowhere when we scored 3 goals against Tyrone and still couldn't win. Far too much chopping and changing players in the last few games. Jack Brady thrown in the deep end yesterday after seeing very little game time up to yesterday . Don't know what the management are trying to do with young Murray . When he plays well he gets dropped. Real panic management lately . Seems when Givney went off injured against Tyrone we had nothing else in place . The players don't seem happy playing. Terry has taken us as far as he can and he needs to be man enough to admit that . There no shame , he brought great heart and commitment back to the blue jersey and for that we will always be thankful . But it's move over time now . We need a Pete mc Grath or a Malachy O Rourke to take us to the next level Asap

Tyrone v Cavan - Ulster Semi-Final - 2 Like(s)
Replying To JonSmith: "According to the good folk posting on Hoganstand it was also time to deliver last year against Monaghan, it was time to deliver against Galway in the promotion game, it was time to deliver in Croke Park against Tyrone etc etc.. Have you ever gone to watch a Cavan game thinking that today wouldn't be a good day to deliver?!
It's also funny that after we lost to Tyrone in the League Final you said That's why we are so limited and predictable in what we do. And when the opposition target and snuff out our main threats we can't adjust. Its the reason why Armagh though not a better team than us will beat us in Ulster. McGeeney will like Harte have his homework done on certain players.
Yet when we beat Armagh you didn't post, didn't praise Terry for getting the tactics right and winning the game comfortably. But you're on here now declaring that it's time for Terry to deliver... Even though you didn't think we would beat Armagh?
Like I said... Obsession..." We should be obsessed with getting a proper manager!

Tyrone v Cavan - Ulster Semi-Final - 2 Like(s)
I think JonSmith needs to take his head out of the sand. We team building here now since 2010/2011.. It's time to deliver. We haven't beaten one big side with this manager. There can be no more excuses. If we are serious about making it in the big time we need to start now by beating Tyrone.. It is a last chance saloon for this manager. After 4/5 Ulster u21 titles plus a minor title the least we should expect is an Ulster final appearance. In the 70s a hogan cup win in 72 and a minor win in 74 were the backbone for Ulster final appearances in 76 and 78. .. There is no more excuses left for this management .. If they can't perform this year it's time to move over and give someone else a chance to bring us to the next level.

Take GAA to the next level! - 2 Like(s)
Professionalism is never going to happen as the GAA organisation is way too small..
Is a 19 year old going to turn professional for xk per week to retire at 31/32 with no job?
What happens to the so called professional that looses his place after 2 years? Does he transfer to London or New York? Or sign on?
The best that will happen is maybe a marked increase in expenses.. mileage ect.

I thought Mattie might have put McKiernan in full forward when he came on and kick it into him. Seanie and Smith were doing damage when they got the ball but didn't get enough of it.
I just can't see where Clarke fits in. He's super fit but has minimal contribution to a 15 team game

Connacht Final Replay- NOT TELEVISED - 2 Like(s)
Replying To Pope_Benedict: "They should show the full game on deferred coverage. It's an intriguing match up imo, in the sense that no one has a clue who's going to win it.
In contrast, the appetite for neutrals to watch the Dubs slaughter Westmeath won't be very significant. Many neutrals don't watch the Dubs anymore, until they're facing a team in an all-Ireland semi or final who can possibly offer a somewhat realistic challenge, and there's maybe only 3or4 counties that fit that bill at this sorry stage." Good idea ... They could defer it for a few years . Awful stuff yesterday for human eye. Passing back to the goalkeeper from the 50m mark. 400+ handpasses. Woeful shooting . Woeful game plan by Both. Never want to see that muck again .. Deferred or live .

Cavan v Dublin - 1 Like(s)
Replying To clondalkindub: "Really looking forward to this game and the start of our 3 in a row year, can't remember the last time we played Cavan in a competitive match but I always look forward to playing new opposition, can't really comment on how it will go cause I don't know to much about Cavan other than they have the Kildare man Seanie Johnston on board and haven't a clue what Dublin team will be selected but maybe some Cavan folk can give their thoughts on this game?" TBH our defence seems a bit unsettled going by the mckenna cup. McBrearty and McHugh just walked through. I feel Brogan with his off the ball movement alone could do a lot of damage if he plays.
Cavan will be up for it but with Dublins overall panel I feel they will be way too cute.
If they put the shackles on Seanie I can't see where our scores will come from.
Dublin by 4/5plus.
I'd be happy with a decent 70min performance in that one.

Terry is gone - 1 Like(s)
His championship record was poor. He's been lorded because of 2 under 21 titles he won yet some of our Senior players who performed well like Johnston , Mackey and Martin Reilly plus younger u21 never played with Terry before.
What about all the u21s he went through over 5 years?
He had some pick maybe up on 100 ex under 21s to pick from yet he couldn't mould a side to be successful in Ulster.
Don't know how posters here measure success but 2/3 Ulster championship wins in my eyes is not success.
Under McHugh we contested 2 Ulster finals in 3 years, won 1 on the back of 2 under 21 success in 88 and 96.
So there's your answer Terry's Ulster championship record is not a successful one over the last 5 years.
As Deanmartin rightly pointed out, his contract was up so he had to go. His claim to fame will always be beating London to get to an All Ireland quarter final.
Good luck Terry!

my view is that Cavan is full of very good and suitable managers One that stands head and shoulders above all others is Joesph O Connor who managed the great Cavan Gaels club for many years.
While he is a no nonsense type manager he has been very effective and in my ( and Mrs T view) he stands head and shoulders above all others" Think Donal should be part of the set up!

No one has a problem with an outside manager but this racket of €100 a night is a load of dung...Give the man a few quid for petrol no problem but you would want to be travelling a fair distance that €20 of fuel wouldnt cover.
Remember these guys should be involved for the same reason as the rest of us,Its a hobby and we enjoy it" 100 quid a night it's nothing to what's being paid out.
I know a club hurling manager who was wanted by 3 different clubs this year and he took the club that was farthest away even though the other 2 teams have a better chance of success.
The team he took was 90 further away .
It's all about the Cash lads! Let no one tell you any different.
